Gov. Ron DeSantis vowed the Sunshine State won’t abide by potential bureaucratic restrictions on Second Amendment rights after the U.S. surgeon general declared firearm violence a “public health crisis.” The Biden administration’s surgeon general, Dr. Vivek Murthy, said guns “[pose] a serious threat to the health and well-being of our country.” The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ webpage for the advisory does not list any new legal action taken on restrictions, but DeSantis warned that similar advisories were issued at the start of the coronavirus pandemic – preceding lockdowns and other government mandates. “During COVID, unelected bureaucrats used...

It’s almost here... the first presidential debate between President Joe Biden and former president Donald Trump will take place tomorrow night on CNN. It is quite early in the election cycle, which is by design to account for the fact that many voters now cast their ballots via mail or in an early voting period. Perhaps the biggest surprise is that Biden agreed to debate this early, which could signal his campaign’s uneasiness with polls showing the president trailing in most swing states, losing by double digits on the issues that matter most to voters and hemorrhaging support among various...

Red Lobster, known for bringing all-you-can-eat shrimp to the average American and which was at on point the world’s largest seafood chain, filed for bankruptcy last month. Red Lobster now has more than one billion dollars in debt. They closed 50 locations about two months ago and just announced a list of 600 locations it plans to close. What went wrong? Same Old, Same Old Remember going to Red Lobster as a kid? You might have tried your first lobster tail, or surf-n-turf there. That experience you had as a kid, would be hardly different if you went into one...

"In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea, And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." "And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience." "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are...

ARLINGTON, TX — Despite facing ongoing criticism for being the only remaining Major League Baseball team to not hold a Pride Night, the Texas Rangers announced the club would double down by celebrating a "No Homo Night" at the ballpark. Whereas all other MLB teams scheduled special nights to cater to celebrating LGBTQ lifestyles, the Rangers instead decided to institute "No Homo Night," which will include overtly heterosexual hotdogs, no physical touching between male fans other than aggressive high-fives, and a strict ban on any Dallas Cowboys clothing. "It's going to be a sweet time at the ballpark. No homo,"...

We recently caught Joe Scarborough humble bragging "I'm not good at this politics thing." At least, we thought he was humble bragging. Turns out, maybe Joe has plenty to be humble about. There was Scarborough this morning, now claiming that it is Trump who is very worried about the debate, with Scarborough actually suggesting that a "whining, whimpering" Trump is scared that Biden might "beat him really badly."This is a flip-flop from their earlier assertions that Trump was overconfident. Scarborough and his gang have been all over the Republicans for suggesting that Biden, with his loss of mental acuity, will...

If you bother to look back at numerous elections you will discover that claiming election fraud is as American as . . . apple pie. How do the Democrats complain? Let us count the ways. In January 2017, seven House Democrats (Jim McGovern, Jamie Raskin, Pramila Jayapal, Raul Grijalva, Sheila Jackson Lee, Barbara Lee, and Maxine Waters) formally objected to the certification of state elections. In announcing their challenge, Barbara Lee claimed that factors such as “malfunctioning voter machines” and “incidents of intimidation and misinformation at the polls” were “clear evidence of widespread voter suppression.” Jamie Raskin claimed that the...

Donald Trump's recent proposal to give a green card to every immigrant who gets a degree from any college reminded me of his performance at the 2020 debates with Joe Biden. Here's the 15-second version: "You did a crime bill, 1994, where you called them super-predators. African Americans are super-predators and they've never forgotten it. They've never forgotten it." "I'm letting people out of jail now ... you have treated the African American population community, you have treated the black community about as bad as anybody in this country." "If you look at the polls, I'm doing better than any...

Nate Silver, the founder and former editor-in-chief of FiveThirtyEight, released his election model on Wednesday, showing former President Donald Trump with a two in three chance to win the White House. Silver, who exited FiveThirtyEight in 2023, released the model entitled, “The presidential election isn’t a toss-up” on his Substack at natesilver.net. According to a screenshot of what appears to be a paywalled portion of the forecast that has gone viral on X, Silver gives Trump a robust 65.7 percent chance to win the White House in November.

Today's Substack is going to be different than usual. A Response to Readers I've gotten a few emails from people who took umbrage at my use of gender-neutral language (i.e., "pregnant people" and "post-abortive people" rather than "pregnant women," etc.). Rather than write an individual email in response to each person, I decided to just address it in a Substack post once and for all, so everyone knows my reasons for this, and no further discussion is needed. My Substack is not about LGBT issues, but about abortion, and, occasionally, other life-related issues such as war, euthanasia, and the death...

A century ago today* Dragutin Dimitrijevic — better known by his code name “Apis” — was shot on the outskirts of Salonika (Thessaloniki) along with two lieutenants in his legendary Serbian terrorist organization, the Black Hand. Not to be confused with mafia extortionists of the same name, the Black Hand was the cooler brand name of Ujedinjenje Ili Smrt — “Union or Death” in the Serbo-Croatian tongue, referring to the network’s objective of aggrandizing the small Kingdom of Serbia with their ethnic brethren who, circa the fin de siècle, still answered to the Austro-Hungarian Empire. This national aspiration would midwife...

Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) said Wednesday he would be disappointed if the presumptive GOP nominee doesn't select him as his running mate. Why it matters: Vance reportedly teeters between the top two spots on former President Trump's VP shortlist and has been intensely lobbying donors for the former commander in chief's re-election campaign. What they're saying: "I'm human, right?" Vance said in an interview that Fox News aired Wednesday. "And so, when you know this thing is a possibility, if it doesn't happen, there is certainly going to be a little bit of disappointment."

After Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY)’s primary defeat in New York, a second Squad member could be in trouble, according to a new poll that shows Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO)’s opponent, Wesley Bell, pulling ahead. The poll, conducted by Democrat pollster Mark Mellman’s group and published by Politico, showed that Bell has overcome a double-digit deficit to pull ahead of Bush. Bell, St. Louis County’s prosecuting attorney, is only one percentage point ahead of Bush, but analysis by the group said Bell’s image is improving, while Bush’s is moving in a negative direction, “leaving him with an underlying image advantage.”

On Wednesday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas reacted to a report that DHS identified more than 400 migrants who were brought to the United States by a human smuggling network affiliated with ISIS by stating that “we have no evidence that they are individuals plotting to harm the United States.” And “We screen and vet individuals at the time of encounter. If we learn of derogatory information, we take enforcement action.”
