en Turner published 1 hour ago Today's total solar eclipse won't produce any especially harmful radiation, but that doesn't mean you should look at it with your bare eyes. Today (April 8), a total solar eclipse will sweep across 15 U.S. states, plunging a 115-mile-wide (185 kilometers), 10,000-mile-long (16,000 km) path into sudden darkness as the moon's enormous shadow glides across the face of the sun. It's a cosmic coin trick that has always evoked feelings of both awe and dread in skywatchers down on Earth, and eclipses have been interpreted throughout history as messages from gods, bad omens or...

Dozens of national governments are joining with the United Nations and billionaire population-control fanatic Bill Gates on a global program to impose “digital public infrastructure” (DPI) on their citizens within five years. This “DPI” includes central bank digital currencies (CBDCs), digital identification, comprehensive data systems, and more, all functional across national borders. The new scheme, unveiled late last year and moving ahead rapidly, is known as “50 in 5” because 50 governments expect to have the Orwellian “digital infrastructure” of tyranny in place within five years. Almost a dozen governments, including numerous corrupt kleptocracies and socialist regimes, have volunteered their populations...

Zelenskyy straight-up said Ukraine is going to lose if Congress doesn't send more aid Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Sunday that his country "will lose the war" against Russia if Congress does not act to send it more aid, Agence France-Presse reported. Zelenskyy's statement on Sunday was his starkest warning to date about the fate of Ukraine. In late March, he told The Washington Post that Ukraine's army would have to contemplate a retreat "step by step, in small steps," if the US aid did not come through.

A metal detectorist has unearthed a gold nugget that is currently up for auction and expected to sell for over $37,000. The largest gold nugget ever found in England was discovered by a man using a faulty metal detecting device. Metal detectorist Richard Brock unearthed the chunk of gold last May while exploring Shropshire, a county in western England, despite arriving late to a meetup with fellow treasure hunters and using an older detector, The Guardian reported. About 20 minutes into his search, Brock, who has been metal detecting for 35 years, discovered the nugget. The chunk of gold weighs...

Nicaragua has asked the UN's highest court to halt German weapons sales to Israel at the start of a landmark case. Germany is accused of breaching the UN genocide convention by sending military hardware to Israel and ceasing funding of the UN's aid agency. Berlin rejects the claims and will present a defence to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on Tuesday. In 2023 some 30% of Israel's military equipment purchases came from Germany, totalling €300m ($326m; £257m). The allegations build on a separate case taken by South Africa in January, where judges in the Hague ordered Israel to take...

Only seven of the world’s 1,000 tallest buildings are in the EU. Why is that? The tallest skylines around the world are dominated by North America, China and the Middle East. No European city comes even close to breaking the Top 20.

It has been seven years since Donald Trump stared directly at the solar eclipse without wearing protective glasses. Now he is jumping on the sky-gazing bandwagon again with a campaign video comparing the election to the solar event. As millions across the country prepare to watch the moon blocking out the sun, Trump released a clip of a silhouette of his head moving across the sky. The video begins with the phrase 'the most important moment in human history is taking place in 2024' hovering over an image of the sun. With the 2001: A Space Odyssey theme playing in...

Former Vice President Mike Pence blasted former President Trump on Monday for embracing the position that abortion policy should be determined by states and avoiding taking a stance on whether the federal government should enforce a national ban at a certain cutoff point. In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Pence — who was Trump’s running mate in 2016 and 2020 —said Trump’s newly announced position on abortion was a “slap in the face” to opponents of abortion rights who voted for their ticket. “President Trump’s retreat on the Right to Life is a slap in the face to the...

Reconstructions of paleo-CO2 levels openly rely on data derived from plant stomata. But when modern (1800s-present) CO2 measurements from stomata conflict with the narrative that humans drive CO2 levels, they are patently rejected. [emphasis, links added] Scientists readily acknowledge plant stomata evidence from one location is “widely used as an effective tool for paleoenvironmental reconstructions” of global atmospheric CO2 from 1 to 150 million years ago (Badihagh et al., 2024). For example, in a new study, 100-150 million-year-old stomata samples from Iran are shown to reconfirm that global atmospheric CO2 levels hit 1,100 to 1,700 ppm during the Jurassic period....

Today, the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics approved an unprecedented ban on the participation of transgender women, in a move that could pressure other major governing bodies of athletics, including the National Collegiate Athletics Association, to follow suit. According to the official press release, “Only NAIA student-athletes whose biological sex is female may participate in NAIA-sponsored female sports.” The policy does not specify how it defines biological sex, nor does it clarify its implications for intersex athletes. It also excludes athletes who have begun “any masculinizing hormone therapy.” This ban comes amid increased scrutiny over trans bodies in sport and...

A rare spectacle appeared in the sky over Sicily’s Mount Etna recently, as huge smoky vortex rings were spotted rising above the massive volcano. The largest volcano currently active in Europe, Mount Etna rises to a height of 10,902 feet (3,323 meters), making it both the tallest volcano on the continent, in addition to being the most active. Visitors to the area recently spotted the volcano producing unusual circles of what appeared to be smoke, known as vortex rings, which are actually the result of condensed gases from deep underground that make their way to the surface. Once they manifest...

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — A judge has permanently ordered an Orlando city commissioner to stop interacting with a 96-year-old constituent that she is legally accused of defrauding. Circuit Judge Heather Higbee ordered the injunction in a civil case against Regina Hill on Friday. Hill was indicted last month on charges of elderly exploitation, identity fraud and mortgage fraud for the same actions. Gov. Ron DeSantis suspended Hill from the Orlando City Commission on Monday. Florida Department of Law Enforcement Special Agent Steve Brenton says in testimony that Hill obtained a fraudulent power of attorney over the woman’s affairs. Hill is...

WASHINGTON — Twenty years after George W. Bush won re-election with the help of ballot initiatives that rallied voters around a popular cultural issue, Democrats are dusting off his playbook and attempting a similar strategy to keep Donald Trump out of office. In 2004, Bush’s team seized on popular opposition to same-sex marriage, with strategist Karl Rove encouraging allies to put initiatives to ban it on ballots in key swing states, hoping to stir up voters and enable the president to ride the measures’ coattails to re-election. It worked. Now, President Joe Biden’s allies are seizing on fury over the...

A group that has no core beliefs, a group of Simple Simons that simply can’t understand nuance the way we should.Trump the man is perfect as a vessel to politically oppose the current evil power elite. As Ronald Reagan was the man to renew America during his time, Trump has become that same beacon for this time. His story is simply thus: Compelling. Here is something we can unashamedly celebrate.

I'll put Elon Musk's response to Shellenberger's post at the bottom. On X Last night, around 8 p.m. local time in São Paulo, Brazil, Federal Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes announced a criminal investigation into Elon Musk, the owner of X, formerly known as Twitter, for allegedly spreading disinformation, obstructing justice, and allowing people who De Moraes had banned from social media to freely express their views. If you’re worried about Idaho becoming too blue, don’t. “This is a red state,” said Secretary of State Phil McGrane. “No matter what you heard from someplace else, this is a Republican state, and I’m sorry for the Democrats in the room. Idaho is becoming redder. It’s just a fact.” In a 30-minute speech to about 100 Coeur d’Alene Rotarians at The Coeur d’Alene Resort on Friday, McGrane offered voter registration numbers to back up his statement. He said that between 2004 and 2023, 118,639 voters from 49 states moved to Idaho. Of those, 77,089, 65%, registered as Republicans, while...
