On this, the fourth day of April, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-four, is to be opened, in this City, the great Metropolitan Fair, in aid of the United States Sanitary Commission. According to the printed pamphlet issued by the committees, it is designed that this exhibition shall be "something much larger than a fair in the modern acceptation of the term;" and to judge by the amount of money contributed, the number and variety of goods to be exhibited and sold, the design will be much more than accomplished. The similar fair at Chicago realized $60,000; at Boston, $140,000;...

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill on Monday that will prohibit children younger than 14 from joining social media in the state. Companies that fail to do so could be sued on behalf of the child who creates an account on the platform. The minor could be awarded up to $10,000 in damages, according to the bill. The Biden administration announced recipients of the climate law’s biggest grant program Thursday, kicking off a $20 billion effort to transform community lending and green the U.S. economy. EPA will award eight initial grants under the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund, ranging in size from $400 million to almost $7 billion. The largest award will go to Climate United, a partnership that includes a nonprofit impact investment firm and two affordable housing lenders. EPA chose three nonprofits — Climate United, Coalition for Green Capital and Power Forward Communities — to distribute a total of $14 billion in capital to finance projects...

Security camera footage shows the moment a suspected porch pirate walked into a Queens homeowner’s trap by trying to steal a fake parcel deliberately left on the stoop. Carlos Mejia said he was “done” with thieves following FedEx and UPS trucks and raiding his parcels, and decided to take matters into his own hands last week by leaving out “decoy packages” outside his door with the aim of catching one of the bandits in the act. “I was just trying to make an example for those out there doing the same thing … stealing from others,” Mejia told Storyful. Video...

What are we to conclude about these contradictory wars and American attitudes toward them? The more democratic and defensive the power, the more Americans support it—but only up to a point. When Russia invaded Ukraine, Americans overwhelmingly supported Ukraine—as they did with Israel after October 7. No wonder: Ukraine was surprise attacked by Russia, and Israel was by Hamas. It seemed an easy binary of good versus evil: both the attacked Ukraine and Israel are pro-Western. Both their attackers, anti-Western Russia and Hamas, are not. Now everything is bifurcating. And the politics of the wars in America reflect incoherence. Both...

A man who was paralyzed from the neck down after a surfing accident seven years ago is now able to stand and walk on his own, thanks in part to a potentially groundbreaking stem cell treatment. Chris Barr was the very first patient in a Mayo Clinic study that collected stem cells from his own stomach fat, expanded them in a laboratory to 100 million cells and then injected the cells into Barr's lumbar spine. Over five years after undergoing the therapy, Barr said he is continuing to gain more independence and get faster at walking. "I never dreamed I...

Bidenomics is really about insane money printing after Covid and the installation of Biden as President. Biden and The Federal Reserve are both pushin’ too hard. Biden to fundamentally change the US and The Fed trying to cope with the inflation reaction. With Covid and then Biden’s selection as President, Federal outlays exploded (blue line) and remain elevated under Biden. To help finance the (outrageous) spending The Federal Reserve massively increased the M2 Money supply (green line). Now, The Fed has withdrawn some of the excessive monetary stimulus, but there is a staggering amount monetary stimulus still swimming around the...

NEW YORK (AP) — Former President Bill Clinton has a memoir coming out this fall about his years since leaving public office in 2001. “Citizen: My Life After the White House” will cover everything from the presidential campaigns of his wife, Hillary Clinton, to his views on events ranging from the Jan. 6 insurrection to the Iraq War. Alfred A. Knopf, which published Clinton’s million-selling presidential memoir “My Life,” will release the new book Nov. 19. “I knew as I entered this new chapter of my life that I’d keep score the way I always have: Are people better off...

Changing weather patterns induced by climate change are contributing to shifts in the location of terrorist activity, according to new research. An exploratory study led by extremism expert Dr Jared Dmello, from the University of Adelaide's School of Social Sciences, found some climatological variables affected terrorist activity in India. "Suitability analyses indicate that all the climatological variables tested -- temperature, precipitation, and elevation -- relate to shifting patterns of terrorist activity," says Dr Dmello. "Urban centres have increasingly grown in population density, particularly in spaces with favourable climates, and some of the more remote areas once used by extremists have...

“Such litigation shows promise for addressing gaps left by inadequate regulation and for holding major polluters accountable,” Yale researchers says. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Anew legal analysis in the Columbia Journal of Environmental Law proposes filing lawsuits against America’s agriculture industry, following the same legal playbook climate activists are using against the oil industry. To be sure, climate activists have for years targeted the agriculture industry, particularly methane emission from cattle and their manure. The United Nations, in fact, has a program dedicated to educating people about how meat production is contributing to climate change. In addition, the Environmental Protection Agency has a...

Israel reiterated its intention Thursday to enter the town of Rafah in Gaza to destroy the remaining battalions of Hamas, promising to achieve “total victory” when it did so. The Biden administration and Israel have been at odds over whether Israel should enter Rafah, with Israeli officials reportedly arguing with White House officials during a Zoom meeting on the topic earlier this week. In a press briefing, Breitbart News asked Israeli government spokesperson Raquela Karamson: “Is the humanitarian cost of the delay greater than the humanitarian cost would have been if Israel had entered Rafah right away and ended the...

Two days after being sworn into the Thurston County Sheriff's Office (TCSO), Christopher Burbank resigned from the position. The TCSO on Wednesday said the former Tacoma Police Department officer came to the decision "based on community response and death threats made" to his family. Burbank was one of three Tacoma police officers cleared of criminal charges in the 2020 death of Manuel "Manny" Ellis, a Black man who was shocked, beaten and restrained facedown on a sidewalk as he pleaded for breath.

Ranked-choice voting “by nature, creates a power vacuum,” which liberal donors seek to create in order “to supplement party infrastructures,” Jason Snead said. These same donors decry the use of Super-PAC's when they benefit conservatives. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ As ranked-choice voting gains momentum across the U.S., the campaign supporting the system is funded by a few liberal dark money groups run by mega-donors who seek to replace the influence of political parties with their own, according to Honest Election Project Action, (HEPA) an election integrity advocate. Liberal dark money groups are funding RCV campaigns across the country through local organizations, resulting in...

“Then He said to them, ‘My soul is deeply grieved, to the point of death; remain here and keep watch with Me’” (Matthew 26:38). In His time of greatest distress, Jesus realized His human weakness and His need to depend on the Father. As Jesus entered the Garden of Gethsemane with Peter, James, and John, He experienced a more profound anguish over sin and death than ever before. His deep and desolate distress was made more severe when He considered the many personal disappointments that confronted Him. First, there was the betrayal by Judas, one of His own disciples. Then...

Imagine this: You head to Florida to look after a sick family member, only to come back and find squatters have broken into your house, sold all your belongings, and now, unbelievably, are legally considered “tenants.” So now you’re stuck shelling out for a lawyer to get them out. It sounds like a wild story, doesn’t it? But, shockingly, this is the reality for a woman from Texas who left her home to care for her sick mother. The New York Post: Squatters turned a Texas woman’s home into a “drug den” and sold her possessions at a yard sale...
