As the catastrophic effects of the climate crisis have become tangible, daily realities to billions of people around the globe, here in New Mexico people are choking on oil and gas pollution — and our legislators have to act. Not only has this worsened the suffering created by human-made climate change around the world and in New Mexico, it’s also caused an explosion in pollution that is making our...

Elite thinking, as it’s termed, is under attack – and rightly so – for being out of step with the rest of the country. Below, we highlight some of the profound attitudinal differences between elites and average Americans: • In a time when most Americans have suffered a loss of real take-home pay, 74% of elites say they are financially better off today than in the past versus 20% of all Americans. • Nearly six in ten say there is too much individual freedom in America – double the rate of all Americans. • More than two-thirds (67%) favor rationing...

WASHINGTON, D.C. — According to local authorities in the nation's capital, a large mob of unhinged extremists has converged on the National Mall to politely state they would prefer it if 3,000 babies weren't being killed every day. "It's disturbing to be reminded that lunatics like this really exist," said Capitol Police Chief Donald Jones to reporters, who were huddling behind barricades for their safety. "It's a sobering reminder that pockets of extremism still thrive in remote corners of this country. We will remain vigilant to ensure these deranged people don't make any rash moves to stop the mass slaughter...

The U.S. Supreme Court lacks jurisdiction to review a New Mexico ruling that ousted Couy Griffin from his seat on the Otero County Commission, a group of attorneys argued this week. Griffin has asked the nation’s highest court to review a decision by a New Mexico judge who booted Griffin from office in 2022 for his role in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol. The September 2022 ruling marked the first time since 1869 that someone was removed from public office for violating Section 3 of the 14th Amendment. Griffin’s attorneys argued in a petition filed last...

The Baltic States have signed an agreement to create a common defence line to reinforce NATO's eastern border with both Russia and Belarus. The countries' defence ministers signed the document in Latvia's capital Riga. The three believe constructing "anti-mobility defensive installations" will significantly strengthen their borders, as well as deter...

The feds have repeatedly insisted the pipe bombs planted outside the RNC and DNC the night before J6 were "viable."...

TALLAHASSEE — The Florida House on Wednesday began moving forward with a proposal that would restrict the types of flags that can be displayed at government buildings and schools, including preventing the display of LGBTQ pride flags. The bill (HB 901), sponsored by Rep. David Borrero, R-Sweetwater, and Rep. Randy Fine, R-Brevard County, drew heavy opposition from LGBTQ people, activists and parents and refueled legislative battles that have raged in recent years about LGBTQ-related issues. Supporters said the bill is aimed at preventing “indoctrination” at places such as schools. “This is something that literally is bringing us back to the...

European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said on Friday that the only peaceful solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict included the creation of a Palestinian state, and he suggested this might need to “be imposed from the outside,” without Israel’s agreement. “The actors are too opposed to be able to reach an agreement autonomously,” Borrell said. “If everyone is in favor of this solution, the international community will have to impose it.”

A Southern California fast food franchise owner is the latest to signal that menu prices will go up when the minimum wage for all fast food employees climbs to $20 an hour in April under a new California law. Marcus Walberg, whose family operates four Fatburger restaurants in Los Angeles, recently told Business Insider that he sees no option but to raise prices and make other changes to adapt. “It’s a scary thing because customers are already complaining that prices are too high,” Walberg told the business news outlet.

Using AI and cloud computing, Microsoft was able to identify promising new battery materials for the Department of Energy (DoE) — in a fraction of the time it would usually take. The challenge: Batteries are an essential part of the clean energy future. We need them to power electric vehicles and to store energy from solar and wind. Currently, lithium-ion batteries are our best option for both of these uses, but they aren’t ideal. Because lithium is relatively scarce, it’s also expensive, and the metal is often unethically mined using child labor and environmentally destructive processes. Identifying better battery materials...

ABC legal analyst Sunny Hostin told her co-hosts Friday on “The View” that the United States is still “in the fight of our lives” to save the United States from “the scourge of racism.” Thursday on a CNN town hall, Republican presidential candidate former Gov. Nikki Haley (R-SC) said, “When you look, all men are created equal. I think the intent was to do the right thing. Now, did they have to go fix it along the way? Yes, but I don’t think the intent was ever that we were going to be a racist country.” Hostin said, “What is...

A wise old friend once said to me that if Christianity died out, what would come next would not be atheism but polytheism. That is, instead of worshipping one God, people would start worshipping a whole range of gods. I thought of that yesterday while watching a Brazilian shaman called Putanny Yawanawa performing a native spiritual ceremony onstage at the World Economic Forum in Davos. The leaders onstage all managed to keep a straight face — in fact, they looked deeply humbled and impressed — as Yawanawa did her incantations and blew her sacred breath into their faces. All behaved...
