Dated May 25 and delivered by plane while the Yorktown was about a hundred miles from Oahu, the report that Nimitz read was sobering...One day ahead of schedule, on May 27, the Yorktown limped into Pearl Harbor. The next morning, after Nimitz had cut orders voiding the safety rule of spending a day purging her tanks of stored aviation fuel, the Yorktown eased into Drydock Number One. The caissons closed behind her, and pumps began draining out the water. With at least a foot of water still remaining in the drydock, men in waders gathered to inspect the hull. One...

Looking down the barrel of the First Light Fusion’s “Big Friendly Gun” – a two-stage gas gun that's used to generate fusion reactions by the impact of a high-velocity projectile on a specially-designed target. Photo: First Light Fusion In my discussion (published starting here) with Paul Methven, head of Britain’s STEP program to build a first electricity-producing fusion power plant, Methven stressed that the program is open to more than one technological option. While STEP is betting mainly on the spherical tokamak, it is supporting the formation of a “fusion cluster” that will include private fusion companies pursuing entirely different...

An article by New York Post legendary gossip columnist Cindy Adams reports Barack and Michelle Obama are angling to replace Joe Biden with former First Lady Michelle as the Democrats’ 2024 presidential nominee. Obama world was rocked when Donald Trump short-circuited the Obama revolution to remake America when he defeated would-be Obama successor Hillary Clinton in 2016 and has taken merciless revenge on President Trump ever since. Barack Obama is thought by many to be the behind the scenes power of the Biden presidency. But with Joe Biden and Kamala Harris having some of the worst polling numbers for incumbents...

SEOUL (Reuters) - North Korea has conducted a test of its underwater nuclear weapons system in a protest against this week's joint military drills by South Korea, the United States and Japan, state media KCNA said on Friday. The test of the "Haeil-5-23" system, a name North Korea has given to its nuclear-capable underwater attack drones, was carried out by the defence ministry's think tank in the waters off its east coast, the report said, without specifying a date.

Why do some countries prosper, and others don’t? That is actually a very easy question to answer. People become prosperous unless their governments stop them. Freedom begets prosperity, every time. This video from Kite and Key Media makes the point simply, but overwhelmingly. It won’t come as a surprise to you, but you may want to send the link to your liberal brother-in-law:What Makes Nations WealthyWe can add this observation: there are rich people in every country. What varies widely is whether the broad mass of the people are prosperous. In unfree countries, a few are rich but most are poor....

You have won the battle, minions of the deep state, faceless-for-now but not for long bureaucrat-authoritarians, but you haven’t won the war. And here is a warning, too, as is only fair: So far I have been constrained in my response to your pushing and prodding and overlord-nagging by the requirement not to compromise my efforts on the legal side. But that’s all over with, now, isn’t it? So there are no holds barred, as far as I am concerned. And it may be that you have nothing better to do with your nasty narrowly-circumscribed micromanaging bodies and souls than...

Florida Republican Rep. Anna Paulina Luna blasted a so-called “immigration expert” testifying before a House committee in Washington on Wednesday when he began laughing at her over her accusations that the Biden administration is aiding in the trafficking of children at the southern border. David J. Bier, associate director of immigration studies at the Cato Institute, was testifying before lawmakers during a House hearing on immigration when he began openly laughing at Rep. Luna when she was asking him her questions. The Cato Institute is a libertarian think tank based in Washington, D.C., that is funded by the Koch Brothers...

The Federal Aviation Administration, under a national outreach program for diversity and inclusion, is pushing to recruit workers with total deafness in both ears, blindness, missing extremities, partial paralysis, complete paralysis, epilepsy, severe intellectual disability, psychiatric disability and dwarfism. John Hinderaker wonders, “How crazy are these people?” and as Paul Simon might say, the FAA is still crazy after all these years. Joe Biden’s pick to head the FAA was Phillip Washington, who proclaimed that safety would be his top priority. Washington was unable to answer a series of basic aviation questions including “what causes an aircraft to spin or...

The new right-wing government is dismantling the goals outlined by the UN... Sweden has been doing a lot of right things lately. They have already scrapped the renewable energy plans and have been pushing for more nuclear power. In the new year, Sweden REMOVED climate taxes on fuel, causing diesel prices to collapse by over 4 SEK per litre. In 2022 when the Socialist democrats were in power, the diesel price reached a whopping 28 SEK per litre. After the right-wing government removed climate taxes, prices in the new year reached almost as low as 17 SEK per litre. That...

Niall Ferguson recommends that we take in the whole of the speech given by Argentina’s President Javier Milei yesterday to the assembled globalistas at Davos. Ferguson characterizes the speech as “a magnificent defense of individual liberty and the free market economy.”These must have sounded like fighting words: “Today I’m here to tell you that the western world is in danger…because those who are supposed to defend the values of the west have been co-opted by a vision of the world that inexorably leads to socialism, and therefore to poverty” (transcript here). How do you say bingo in Spanish?Javier Milei does...

Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.) introduced legislation Thursday to “ensure” pregnant people receive an ultrasound and are offered a chance to see its images before consenting to an abortion. The legislation says abortion providers “shall” perform an ultrasound, “provide a complete medical description of the ultrasound images” — including size of the embryo and whether there is cardiac activity — and show the images to the mother.

Alleging an illegal conspiracy to use intimidation, harassment and fear against its representatives and potential candidates, the bipartisan third-party group No Labels said Thursday it has filed a complaint with the Department of Justice. Members of the group said they are requesting a formal DOJ investigation into whether the individuals engaging in the alleged conspiracy are subverting No Labels’ right to access the ballot in time for November’s general election. No Labels representatives said they are responding to American voters, claiming that the vast majority of them are not happy with the likely major party nominees for this year’s election:...

A new Emerson College Polling/PIX11 survey of New York voters in the Third Congressional District finds that 45% of voters support Democrat Tom Suozzi, 42% support Republican Mazi Pilip, and 5% plan to vote for someone else. Nine percent are undecided ahead of the February special election to replace George Santos, who was expelled from Congress in December.

China’s state-run Global Times on Wednesday eagerly touted a report from two climate alarmist think tanks, Common Wealth in the United Kingdom and the Climate and Community Project in the United States, that claimed the British and American militaries “owe” $111 billion in “climate reparations” to communities supposedly threatened by their carbon emissions. The Global Times is the house organ of the Chinese government, the worst polluter and carbon emitter on Earth by a very wide margin, but it naturally left China’s emissions unmentioned as it focused on the “social cost of carbon” calculations run by the two think tanks...

A US spacecraft launched last week to try to land on the Moon has ended its mission in flames over the Pacific. Peregrine One suffered a propulsion fault that scuppered any prospect of a lunar touch-down and it was commanded to destroy itself instead. The private operator, Pittsburgh-based Astrobotic, directed the craft into Earth's atmosphere to burn up. A tracking station in Canberra, Australia, confirmed loss of signal with Peregrine at 20:59 GMT. Little or no remains of Peregrine were expected to survive intact to the ocean surface. And even if they did, they should have impacted far away from...
