On this date in 1817, Maggie Houghtaling (alias Peggy Densmore) was hanged in Hudson, N.Y. for infanticide. Houghtaling lived with the mother of 15-month-old Lewis Spencer. One awful day in August — just eight weeks before the consequent execution — the mother popped out of the house a few moments and left Lewis gnawing on a piece of bread under her roommate’s care. When the mother returned, she found the child “apparently in convulsions, its tongue protruded from the mouth, and covered with erosions — the inside of the mouth corrugated, and all the shocking symptons which may be supposed...

Last month I attended a meeting of the Virginia Grain Producer’s Association to learn more about how the vast majority of grain is produced. I had the pleasure of being accompanied by three other CGA members, and, inevitably, the topic of scale came up. The VGPA farmers think in thousands of acres; CGA producers may be working with 100 or less. One of the challenges of building up a regional food system of any sort is balancing supply with demand. So the calculators came out and numbers were crunched, and it made me realize I don’t have a good handle...

One of Facebook’s corporate media “fact checkers” has falsely suggested that no Israeli civilians were harmed when Hamas launched a terror attack at a music festival earlier this month. On October 7, Hamas terrorists used paragliders to fly into a music festival in Israel, slaughtering hundreds of innocent concertgoers, mostly young people and families. The terrorists also raped, injured, and kidnapped many more, as Slay News reported. Eyewitnesses recalled horrific scenes of terrorists murdering innocent people as they ran for their lives, in some cases, pulling them from their vehicles as they fled and shooting them at point-blank range. The...

Republican presidential candidate Chris Christie slammed former President Trump on Monday for his “awful temperament” in response to his mounting legal challenges. Judge Tanya Chutkan agreed Monday to impose a “narrow” gag order prohibiting the former president from attacking witnesses, prosecutors, court staff and their families involved in his Jan. 6 election interference case. Asked about Trump calling the gag order “unconstitutional,” Christie told former White House press secretary Jen Psaki: “Look, this is the awful temperament of the guy who is currently the front-runner for the domination of my party.”

Californians are complaining about barely-clothed prostitutes roaming the streets in broad daylight, an issue heightened by Democratic Gov. Newsom signing Senate Bill 357, local officials say. SB 357, which was authored by Democratic state Sen. Scott Wiener and backed by the ACLU, decriminalizes “loitering with intent to commit prostitution.” Critics say the law effectively decriminalizes prostitution in California. National City Mayor Ron Morrison, an independent, recently criticized the law, telling Fox News that prostitutes are now “wearing less than what you would consider a scanty negligee” and “flaunting it in everybody’s face.” Morrison also said the law, which was signed...

Hamas international relations chief said the terrorist group’s plan was never to target civilians when its forces invaded Israel on October 7. Instead he expressed surprise at the human toll exacted by the invading forces as they embarked on mass rape, torture, kidnapping, and slaughter of Israeli innocents. “The chief commander of the Al Qassem Brigade, who initiated the operation, he gave clear instructions not to target civilians or not to harm civilians,” Dr Basem Naim told Australia’s ABC 7.30 report during an interview.

One of Hamas' top military commanders has been killed in a Israeli airstrike in central Gaza, according to a statement from Hamas. Ayman Nofal was a member of Hamas' General Military Council and the commander of a brigade, the group said. He is the highest-ranking Hamas death since the war began. The Israel Defense Forces and Israel Securities Authority confirmed the strike in a statement, calling Nofel "one of the most dominant figures" in Hamas and a close associate of Mohammed Deif, the head of Hamas’ military wing. "In the past, Nofal was responsible for overseeing the manufacturing and developing...

The councilwoman was booked later Friday on a Class E felony, police sources told The Post — which can carry up to two to five years behind bars. “It is unacceptable and unlawful for a civilian to ever bring a firearm to a rally or protest, and especially important for elected officials to model a respect for the law that is expected of all New Yorkers,” New York City Council Speaker Adrienne E. Adams said Friday. “It is the responsibility of the NYPD and the Brooklyn District Attorney to enforce the law in what is a criminal matter, and the...

A report from the Heritage Foundation shows that homicide rates have been higher in Democrat-run "blue counties" than they have been in "red counties" since 2002 – contradicting a popular talking point recited by prominent liberals like California Gov. and billionaire George Soros. Newsom has publicly stated that "8 of the top 10 murder states are red" while liberal mega-donor Soros wrote in the Wall Street Journal last year that "violent crime in recent years has generally been increasing more quickly in jurisdictions without reform-minded prosecutors" and "murder rates have been rising fastest in some Republican states led by tough-on-crime...

Nothing focuses the minds of American voters more than an economy gone sour.As voters watch their chances of living the American dream dwindle — the price of homes, gas, cars, food, and other necessities skyrocketing; good-paying full-time jobs disappearing; and layoffs spreading throughout the economy — they just want to make the pain go away. And the easiest way for citizens to rid themselves of this pain is to vote out of power its perceived cause: the sitting president and his party.Americans forced out of office Herbert Hoover in 1932 because they blamed him for the Depression. Jimmy Carter lost the...

Former President Donald Trump mocked President Joe Biden's lip service trip to Michigan, saying Biden is pandering to the United Auto Workers labor union bosses. An Ohio man has been busted after a Jewish woman shared Ring footage of someone ringing her doorbell just to say, “You Zionist pigs are f–king disgusting.” Footage seen nearly 3 million times by Tuesday after being shared by StopAntisemitism showed a bearded man in a beanie, dark jacket and jeans leaning down to talk into the Ring camera in one of the incidents. Homeowner Debbie Meyer said she’s certain she was targeted because she had an Israeli flag outside.
