A letter, signed by 124 scholars and posted online last week1, has caused an uproar in the consciousness research community. It claims that a prominent theory describing what makes someone or something conscious — called the integrated information theory (IIT) — should be labelled “pseudoscience”. Since its publication on 15 September in the preprint repository PsyArXiv, the letter has some researchers arguing over the label and others worried it will increase polarization in a field that has grappled with issues of credibility in the past. “I think it’s inflammatory to describe IIT as pseudoscience,” says neuroscientist Anil Seth, director of...

Russia's mobilized soldiers who died in the Ukraine war were killed on average within 4.5 months after being enlisted, according to a report published Thursday... Around 300,000 military personnel were called up in Putin's mobilization order, and Russia's high casualty rate in the war has led to a call for another wave of mobilization from some Moscow officials. The Kremlin does not frequently comment on its estimates of troop casualties, but Ukraine's military on Thursday put the tally of Russian troop losses at 274,470... According to the findings by IStories and CIT, "more than half of the dead [who were]...

We deserve better than porn stars and a zombie in public officeFearing Trump candidates would win office and for the RINOs in the Senate to act Republican, the RINOs sat on their hands last year and did nothing. It marked the first time RINOs refused to help those who pose a threat. Democrats do it all the time to them but they choose to accept their fate as a runner-up part. In fact, Democrats did it to them in 2022, didn’t they? The RINO motto is It’s Better To Serve In Hell Than Have To Make A Decision. To accommodate and...

Lizzo is facing yet another bombshell lawsuit by one of her former employees over toxic workplace conditions. (snip) Daniels, who is black, claims in court docs that Nomura would mock both Lizzo, 35, and backup dancers on multiple occasions by doing an “offensive stereotypical impression of a black woman.” Nomura also allegedly called black women on the tour as “dumb,” “useless,” and “fat,” the lawsuit claims. In one incident, Daniels claimed in the suit that Nomura ran her foot over with a heavy rack of clothes, and pushed her into it when Daniels informed her that she was in pain....

Volodymyr Zelensky pleaded with US lawmakers to maintain military support for Ukraine on Thursday, as Republicans signalled that they would try to block a new funding package put forward by Joe Biden. The Ukrainian president addressed senators in a private meeting on Capitol Hill, warning that his country would “lose the war” without US support, before meeting the US president in the White House. His second visit to Washington since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion comes as Ukraine attempts to push through Russian defensive lines in the south and east as part of a major counteroffensive that Kyiv says requires more...

From the beginning of Russia's full-on invasion, Warsaw has been a firm supporter of Kyiv. It's often led the way in sending military aid and equipment, and argued passionately that this support is essential to protect Poland itself from Russian aggression. Now suddenly it feels like the political knives are out for Kyiv. There's talk of how Ukraine should be "grateful" for Polish support. This week came a warning from Poland's prime minister about ending weapons transfers, although others in his party then scrambled to soften that message. But there was no misinterpreting the Polish President's words. Andrzej Duda compared...

While the American public was misinformed about Hunter Biden's laptop in a 2020 letter signed by former intelligence officials – who used their job titles to add credibility to their claims – some of them have since landed plum jobs, including working with the federal government.Just weeks before the 2020 presidential election, 51 ex-high ranking intelligence officials signed a letter insinuating the Hunter Biden laptop was "Russian disinformation" after The New York Post reported on the laptop days earlier. The Post report mentioned how Hunter had abandoned his laptop at a Delaware computer repair shop and had emails regarding his...

Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), the No. 2 Senate Democrat, blasted the recent dress code easing for Sen. John Fetterman (D-Penn.) — and suggested the upper chamber “needs to act on this.” “I’m concerned about it. The senator in question from Pennsylvania is a personal friend, but I think we need to have standards,” Durbin told “The Briefing with Steve Scully” on SiriusXM in an interview airing Friday. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) confirmed the policy change Sunday, while insisting, “I will continue to wear a suit.” “I can’t understand exactly what he was thinking at that point,”...

Either this is empty PiS populist noise in an election year or the war could be ending sooner than we think. Somehow the Ukrainian leadership is so insufferable that they’ve literally alienated the most schizophrenic anti-Russian country on earth. How did Zelensky f*ck up this badly? Imagine having a allies and going into an alliance with such guys. They are worsts than your enemy. Russia still supplies gas and oil to Ukraine. And buys Ukrainian grain, meat, everything. Poland, a colony of GAE which Ukraine now is part of refuses to not only import Ukrainian grain but also it blackmails...

The West has provided Ukraine with EVERYTHING, from weapons, training, and money to removing their opponent from the SWIFT system and irreparably harming their relationship with Russia. The blank checks to Ukraine are real, as we have come to learn as week after week, politicians travel to Kyiv to offer more and more. Major General Kyrylo Budanov of Ukraine knows that there would be no war without Western aid, and said that he knows Western nations can provide more since “warehouses in Western countries are not completely empty.” According to Joe Biden, the US is low on ammunition but there...

Do you remember the 21st night of September? Probably not because it's currently the morning of September 21. But it's not too early to celebrate because it's officially Earth, Wind & Fire Day in honor of their iconic "September" song. Since its release in 1978, "September" has become a universally beloved track, selling millions of copies globally and causing countless people to stop what they're doing and start boogying anytime those horns kick in. But why did the legendary band decide to shout out September 21 on the track at all? It turns out, it was likely chosen at random,...

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky gave a basically upbeat assessment of Ukraine’s long-awaited “counteroffensive” against invading Russian forces but conceded “nobody knows” if there will be a major breakthrough this year in an interview with CNN on Tuesday. Zelensky added that he thinks “we will have more success” in the coming year, following a slower-than-expected start for the big counteroffensive. As in several other recent interviews, he disputed criticism that Ukraine’s push has deteriorated into a stalemate, pointing to gains made by his forces in the east of the country.
