10-Point Biblical Refutation of Sola ScripturaThe Bible teaches that a “three-legged stool” (Bible, Church and Tradition) is necessary to arrive at the truth.1. It's Not Taught in the BibleScripture certainly is a “standard of truth”, but not in a sense that rules out the binding authority of authentic apostolic tradition and the Church. Catholics agree with Protestants that Scripture is materially sufficient: i.e., every true doctrine can be found in the Bible, if only implicitly and indirectly by deduction. But no biblical passage teaches that Scripture is the sole rule of faith for the Christian (formal sufficiency). Nor can sola...

Ever since China suddenly abandoned its zero-COVID police in the wake of protests, there have been pretty clear signs that the country’s economy was not recovering as Xi Jinping probably hoped it would. In March a very pro-China columnist for the South China Morning Post warned that Xi was making a mistake by leaning into communist nationalist too hard. Chinese business leaders were worried about it too.Interviews with more than a dozen Chinese entrepreneurs, venture investors and analysts found widespread concern about Beijing’s approach to private enterprise, just as the country is trying to recover from three years of Covid...

“When I was in another State they would slip and say ‘now I want to introduce the Senator from DuPont–I mean Delaware’”, Joe Biden had joked at a Senate Subcommittee on Crime session. There’s a certain truth to the joke. DuPont is the corporation that defines Biden’s career. His first Senate bid was staffed with DuPont employees, including future chief-of-staff and senator Ted Kaufman, who was conveniently allowed to take a “leave of absence” from DuPont to help elect Biden. Biden celebrated his victory at the Hotel DuPont and bought a former DuPont mansion. DuPont figures in a lot of...

First of all, let me say that I am extremely upset at Fulton County DA Fani Willis. Not because of the indictment, but because I had to stay up so late reading it and trying to get my head around it. Very inconsiderate to run everything so late into the evening, and my poor coffee maker had to work overtime. Now that I've gotten the somewhat unserious complaints (but come on, really?) out of the way, I guess we need to discuss this new indictment a bit. Having read the full indictment document and as many takes as I can from...

Donald Trump was indicted once again on Monday, this time in Fulton County, GA. Given the political makeup of that area, it wasn't that surprising when the proceedings turned into a low-budget reality show. The court clerk the indictment out of the courtroom, cameras in tow, before she posed the document for reporters and furiously signed it. It was her time to shine, and she soaked up every second of it. That stood in stark contrast to Trump's other indictments, in which the courts involved at least attempted to limit the spectacle, forgoing cameras and mugshots. Fulton County DA Fani...

California, once the land of opportunity and prosperity, has now become a failed state, and the Democratic Party - especially its leader in the state, Gavin Newsom - and its progressive policies are to blame. California's high taxes, lack of proper infrastructure maintenance, and high rates of homelessness are proof of the failure of their policies. In fact, as of August 8, 2023, California is ranked dead last in the nation for opportunity.Love it. Perfectly describes @GavinNewsom pic.twitter.com/rLdNFsLa6s— Cartel California (@Cartel_Cal) April 12, 2023Newsom's gubernatorial theme is "California For All," and he means that unironically. Although he claims he's not...

“Democracy Dies in Darkness” is the (sometimes ironic) slogan of The Washington Post. But it’s also a fair description of what’s happening in Tennessee, as the state Legislature is being called to a special session even as local and federal officials withhold information that might be critical to its decision-making. Gov. Bill Lee ordered the special session to begin Aug. 21 in response to a March 27 mass shooting in which three adults and three children at the Covenant School, a Christian school in Nashville’s Green Hills neighborhood, were killed. The Nashville Tennessean article refers only to “a shooter.” The...

The use of the US dollar as a reserve currency is under threat — and the greenback is headed for a vicious cycle that will further erode its dominance, according to the Australian think tank the Lowy Institute. That's because the declining use of the dollar could lead to hyperinflation, which would, in turn, lead to higher interest rates as central banks combat high prices. And those rate hikes will weigh on asset prices like stocks, researcher Michael Roach said in a recent op-ed for The Interpreter, a publication run by the think tank. This outlook is furthered by speculation...

Older adults who play digital puzzle games have the same memory abilities as people in their 20s, a study has shown. The study also found that adults aged 60 and over who play digital puzzle games had a greater ability to ignore irrelevant distractions, but older adults who played strategy games did not show the same improvements in memory or concentration. It is known that as humans age, their mental abilities tend to decrease, particularly the ability to remember a number of things at a single time—known as working memory. "It instead seems to be the strategy elements of the...

Account from the Derby Mercury, Aug. 21, 1817: THE EXECUTION OF John Brown, Thos. Jackson, Geo. Booth & John King. The above unfortunate men were arraigned at our late Assizes for setting fire to certain hay and corn stacks, the property of Winfield Halton, Esq. of Southwingfield, in this county, and after a long and impartial trial were found guilty on the most satisfactory evidence, by a very respectable jury of their fellow countrymen. The awful sentence of the law was passed upon them in the most impressive manner by the Judge, who endeavoured to prepare them for the fate...

Another Walgreens is closing in the Bay Area. The location at 2190 Shattuck Ave. in Berkeley is set to close permanently Aug. 23, as first reported in Berkeleyside. Walgreens would have needed to vacate the building eventually, as it will be torn down to make way for a new 25-story residential tower, part of a large development of buildings in the city. Berkeleyside reports that many shelves at the store are already bare, but plenty of merchandise is still available at a big discount. Prescriptions will be transferred to the Walgreens at 2310 Telegraph Ave. “As we move forward on...

Andrew Ebright loves his job. It's the best thing he's ever done. For the past 18 months, he's been working as a stay-at-home dad, taking care of his son. It was a surprising pivot: When he met his now-wife 10 years ago, it was a path he told her he was completely uninterested in. "I just thought that that would be boring and a bad use of my skill set, and it would force me to do a lot of things that I'm not great at," Ebright, who previously worked as a lawyer, told Insider.

Prior infection by a parasitic hookworm has been shown to protect mice from severe SARS-CoV-2 disease, offering a potential explanation as to why certain human populations seemed to fare better during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. The study looked at hookworm infection in the lungs of mice, as their immune system and cell biology closely mirrors our own. The collaboration found that the mice infected with hookworm were less likely to develop severe COVID symptoms and recovered from the infection much more quickly than their counterparts, even after the worms were cleared from the body. Looking more closely at...

President Biden and Congress should send the influx of migrants to the National Mall in Washington, DC, and not the former Fort Wadsworth military base on Staten Island, Borough President Vito Fossella said Tuesday. “Immigration is a federal responsibility … Staten Island didn’t cause this problem. Why is Staten Island being asked to solve the migrant crisis,” the former Republican congressman quipped. Fossella is asking Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (R-SI/Brooklyn) and the New York congressional delegation to introduce legislation requiring migrants to be sheltered on the National Mall that runs from the US Capitol building to the Lincoln Monument before burdening...

Food and gas prices continue to rise, putting a strain on Americans’ budgets even as reports shows inflation is slowing. Gas prices have risen significantly in recent weeks, according to pricing data from AAA. Gas prices hit a record high earlier in the Biden administration, surpassing an average of $5 per gallon nationally, before dropping back down. Now they are rising again, currently at $3.85 per gallon of regular gas, up from $3.82 a week ago and $3.57 a month ago. In the last month, diesel prices have risen from $3.86 per gallon to $4.13 per gallon. Food prices have...

Patients with localized prostate cancer have a good chance of survival, but mortality rates among those with advanced, metastatic forms of the condition remain high. Until now, the precise mechanism behind the spread of the tumor has not been fully explained. But a research team has succeeded in decoding the underlying cellular signal pathway and has carried out research using a common diabetes medication that could provide a new treatment option. The research team examined prostate cancer cells and identified the key factors in the regulation of tumor cell growth and the way they interact with each other. The protein...

The Canadian government is using the arson-driven wildfires sweeping across the country as a catalyst to set up its own version of FEMA. Evidence suggests that militant-level arson is responsible for the massive wildfires disrupting Canada and the northeast U.S.:
