Forest fires in Alberta, Canada, have fueled the annual reports of wildfires driven out of control by climate change, even though there’s no upward trend in acreage burned. An ecologist says wildfires are driven more by management practices and weather patterns. In the early 1900s, the U.S. started practicing fire suppression throughout the West. This was driven in part by trying to protect timber commodities, and as more people moved into forested areas, they were trying to protect their property. Around the 1970s, Steele said, people began to realize that by suppressing fires, they were allowing dead trees, grasses and...

A new study to be presented at the SLEEP 2023 annual meeting found three out of four adults reported sleeping better after sex, and the majority felt that a sleeping pill had a similar or worse effect on their sleep. Results show that 75% of survey respondents reported that they slept better after having sex close to bedtime, and the majority reported experiencing a moderate improvement in their sleep on those nights. Sixty-four percent of respondents also felt that sleeping pills had a similar or worse effect on their sleep compared to sex. "Little scientific data exists around the impact...

(Daily readings from the USCCB)Some Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to Jesus and put this question to him, saying, “Teacher, Moses wrote for us, ‘If someone’s brother dies, leaving a wife but no child, his brother must take the wife and raise up descendants for his brother.’ Now there were seven brothers…” Mark 12:18–20And these Sadducees then go on to present to Jesus a long and unlikely hypothetical scenario in which this woman eventually married all seven brothers after each one died. And at the conclusion of their hypothetical situation, the Sadducees ask Jesus, “At the resurrection...

A student barred from his high school graduation ceremony after stating there are only two genders said in a Sunday interview on "Fox & Friends" that a firefighting job offer has now been rescinded. "Girls are girls, and guys are guys. There is no in-between," 18-year-old Travis Lohr recalled saying, as KHQ reported. Lohr made the off-script comment at a high school assembly where seniors at Idaho's Kellogg High School offer a piece of advice to younger students. More than 100 parents, students, and community members gathered Friday to protest the school's decision to ban him from participating in the...

Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) took to the field Tuesday evening to throw out the ceremonial first pitch at the Washington Nationals’ “Night OUT” themed game, Major League Baseball’s longest-running LGBTQ celebration. The former House speaker was picked for “her long-standing commitment to fighting for the rights and dignities of the LGBTQ+ community,” the team said in the announcement Monday. The 83-year-old lawmaker took a few steps in from the mound on Tuesday evening to lob the ball to the catcher — the bald-eagle mascot dressed in a rainbow shirt for the event. “I’ll always be a @SFGiants fan, but tonight...

One of Taco Bell’s most recognizable menu items is going vegan. The chain is testing a vegan Crunchwrap, marking the first time that Taco Bell has sold a fully vegan entree. Similar to a traditional Crunchwrap, the vegan version uses a “proprietary, boldly seasoned” plant-based protein created by the company, and is then topped with two vegan sauces: a blanco sauce (similar to sour cream) and a vegan nacho sauce. Then it’s all wrapped in a crunchy tostada shell. However, it’s not going nationwide just yet: A total of three Taco Bell locations — one each in New York City,...

The Ballast of FaithThe following is excerpted from Domestic Extremist: A Practical Guide to Winning the Culture War, out today from Regnery Publishing. I never, ever dreamed I would become a “person of faith.” My secular atheist childhood offered me no God, no church, no temple, no prayers, no heaven, no hell. It was like living in the song “Imagine,” but without Yoko Ono. Although we had lovely Christmas trees and all the trimmings, there was no God but Santa, and Rudolph was his messenger. When I say we were atheists, I mean it. My mother kept a folder in her...

Earth and sky fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in...

At the risk of raining on the June parades, it’s timely to recall that transgender medicine is controversial for a reason June is LGBTQI+ Pride month. US President Biden has proclaimed it as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Intersex Pride Month. “We must support LGBTQI+ activists around the globe,” he declared. Around the world, the rainbow flag has been draped over buildings and streets. New York is hosting not one but eight Pride marches. To the consternation of the Vatican, even the US Embassy to the Holy See is displaying a flag. The most controversial of all the letters,...

This list only includes destroyed vehicles and equipment of which photo or videographic evidence is available. Therefore, the amount of equipment destroyed is significantly higher than recorded here. Small arms, ATGMs, MANPADS, loitering munitions, drones used as unmanned bait, civilian vehicles, trailers and derelict equipment are not included in this list. All possible effort has gone into avoiding duplicate entries and discerning the status of equipment between captured or abandoned. Many of the entries listed as 'abandoned' will likely end up captured or destroyed. Similarly, some of the captured equipment might be destroyed if it can't be recovered. When the...

On Monday, David Zukerman wrote a good piece about Peggy Noonan and her WSJ editorial concerning former President Donald Trump. Noonan argues that electing Donald Trump again would destroy the Republican Party. Peggy may be right, and I hope she is.Trump's success in 2016 was, in large part, due to the way that he took the mechanisms of the Republican political machine and used them to secure victory. He ran a third-party-style campaign within the structure of the Republican Party. The "party" as a corporate entity was against him, but grassroots Republicans in name and philosophy were all in for...

We all know it’s coming and in various ways we are bracing for it. You’ll be navigating workplaces, city streets, social media feeds, and corporate events celebrating it. The first thing to understand is that “Pride month” does not mean the same thing to everyone.

Recently a number of politically motivated business strategies have prompted boycotts of various stores and products. The two most well-known have been Anheuser-Busch and Target. Some people say that these boycotts won’t last (despite the Anheuser-Busch effort going into its second month, with the company’s stock price falling over 20%), but it is important for them to be effective that they do last.By sticking with the boycotts, people are once more finding their voices. Mainstream voices have been squelched at the ballot boxes with information damaging to certain candidates being hidden at election time, the expansion of mail-in ballots without...

Every now and again, the left says exactly what they truly think. This past week, a cadre of left-wing commentators took a break from lecturing the rest of the nation about civility — "Wear a mask! Check your privilege! Bake the cake, bigot!" — to review my new book, "Manhood: The Masculine Virtues America Needs."

About 20% of applications for California community colleges are fraudulent, according to the State Chancellor's Office. Richard Valicenti, 64, received an out-of-the-ordinary check in the mail last summer. It was $1,400 for a Pell Grant to attend Saddleback College in Orange County, CA. Valicenti, a radiation oncologist at UC Davis, was well-beyond his college years and also had "never heard" of the college he was allegedly attending and getting federal aid for, the San Francisco Chronicle reported. While Valicenti was perplexed, college admissions directors and administrators are all too familiar with the situation. Valicenti's identity had been stolen by criminals...

With June comes Graduation Season. We had one granddaughter walk this year, and that was in another state. My wife went and I stayed home to watch the dogs. I’ve always been ambivalent about graduations. I loathed high school and was just glad to be out. The end of college meant that I would need to find gainful employment and wait for my first student loan notice to arrive in the mail. But I know for many people, graduation is a big deal, not just for the graduates but their families. Graduation was probably a big deal for Travis Lohr,...

A U.S. intelligence community whistleblower claims UFOs have crashed, our government has them, and they have clear evidence they are not of human origin. Here’s the story to watch in your spare time. VIDEO AT LINK............. Reactions have been as expected. Some are saying, “See, I knew it!” Many are yawning, claiming they didn’t need a whistleblower to tell them what they already knew. Most are unaware because corporate media is conspicuously ignoring the story. Then, there’s Tucker Carlson’s take. The short version is that this should be the biggest story talked about by corporate media but they’re not allowed...

LGBTQ organizations can threaten and make demands, but no others can? Ah, I see. A University of Michigan professor referred to boycotts, and other threats against ultra-woke big-box retailer Target as a form of literal terrorism in a recent interview on MSNBC. The retail giant recently shed more than $9 billion in market value since it rolled out an extensive LGBTQ Pride collection of apparel and accessories, some aimed at toddlers and babies. After it was revealed that the stores sold LGBTQ-themed onesies for babies, children's books advocating for drag queen shows, and "tuck-friendly" bathing suits, the Minneapolis-based retailer’s value...
