Illinois taxpayers are set to be hit with a billion-dollar bill providing healthcare benefits to newly arrived illegal aliens in the state thanks to Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D), according to estimates. While tens of thousands of illegal aliens continue to be bused to the sanctuary city of Chicago, Illinois, from Texas, Republican lawmakers in the state are sounding the alarm over the economic and social burden that the new arrivals are set to impose on taxpayers.

With excess weed, businesses seek interstate salesThe email went out to legal cannabis growers around Washington. Another of their colleagues had gone under. “Liquidation sale,” it said. Attached was a spreadsheet of items for sale: LED grow lights for $500 apiece. Rotary evaporators for hash oil, $10,000. Across the Columbia River in Oregon, where the state’s top marijuana regulator recently warned of an “existential crisis” in the industry, it’s an open secret some licensed growers have funneled product to the out-of-state black market just to stay afloat. California’s “Apple store of weed,” MedMen, is teetering with millions in unpaid bills,...

China’s COVID ambitions — to hide crucial data and avoid blame — could not have been accomplished without Western academics eagerly playing the useful idiot for Beijing, The New York Times (of all places!) has revealed. Per the paper’s reporting, “Chinese scientists have withheld data, withdrawn genetic sequences from public databases and altered crucial details in journal submissions” while “Western journal editors enabled those efforts” — and the World Health Organization blessed it all. Two China-pushed narratives are at stake here: that the virus did not escape from the Wuhan Institute of Virology and that China’s murderous, totalitarian response to...

Although militant group Daesh has been militarily defeated and no longer holds any territory in Iraq or Syria, its ideology remains unconstrained and continues to pose a threat to the Middle East and the wider world, a US military chief said on Monday. Maj. Gen. Matthew McFarlane, the commander of Operation Inherent Resolve, which is tasked with eliminating the Daesh threat in Iraq and Syria, said that despite the work of the US military and its allies in the region, Daesh still has the capability to reconstitute and carry out attacks in the region and beyond. In a forest in southern Chile, a giant tree has survived for thousands of years and is in the process of being recognized as the oldest in the world. Known as the “Great Grandfather,” the trunk of this tree measuring 4 meters in diameter and 28 meters tall is also believed to contain scientific information that could shed light on how the planet has adapted to climatic changes. Believed to be more than 5,000 years old, it is on the brink of replacing Methuselah, a 4,850-year-old Great Basin bristlecone pine found in California in the United States, as the oldest...

BuzzFeed’s founder Jonah Peretti reportedly turned down Bob Iger’s $650 million offer to purchase the company ten years prior. Now, the once mega-successful company faces removing their news division completely, laying off 15% of its staff. Peretti initially agreed to the deal. A few months after accepting the offer, Disney invited him to speak at the moviemaker’s management retreat in front of 250 members of staff. He was given a prominent speaking slot in anticipation of the deal going through as a sort of “welcome” into the company; however, the speech did not go as well as expected. Peretti delivered...

When Deion Sanders walked into Colorado's meeting room for the first time, he told players that the more of them that enter the transfer portal, the more room they'll make for players who are "smart, tough, fast, [and] disciplined with character." After the Buffaloes' spring game, 13 more players decided to hit the portal on Monday. The football world reacted to Colorado's mass exodus of players on social media. "He's gotta have some DAWGS lined up to join him out of the portal! There's no way he just starts talking crazy to kids and making them want to leave," a...

US residents are spending more money to purchase legal cannabis than they are on chocolate, craft beer and topical pain relief. A report from MJBizDaily showed Americans spent roughly $30 billion on legal marijuana in 2022 while only spending around $20 billion on chocolate. The cannabis purchases eclipsed sales of “feel-good” products, including beer, opioid medications and topical pain relief, the report stated. Though the legal purchase of marijuana is becoming increasingly popular, sales still fell behind the tobacco industry, which made around $53 billion last year despite a steady decline.

On Saturday April 21, the city of Rome celebrated what is believed to be its 2,776th birthday during a traditional celebration called Natale di Roma. As we’ve been watching Washington state slowly turn from pro-gun to anti-Second Amendment, no one was much surprised that many lawmakers there want to be so-called assault weapons. These are much-vilified guns and a symbol of gun rights supporters–a movement typically and understandably associated with the American right. However, it seems liberal gun owners in Washington state are concerned about at least some ramifications of an assault weapon ban. Washington is about to become the 10th state to ban assault weapons. Under the new law, expected to be signed by Governor Jay Inslee shortly as the bill was passed by...

The Armenian Genocide, the systematic mass murder and expulsion of 1.5 million ethnic Armenians carried out in Turkey and adjoining regions by the Ottoman government between 1914 and 1923, is commemorated on April 24th every year. The Armenian Genocide was an atrocity that occurred within the context of a wider religious cleansing across Asia Minor that lasted 10 years and included Armenians, Greeks, and Assyrians. They were all Christians who were also subjects of the Ottoman Empire. The religious cleansing was actually the first in modern times, and it fit the pattern of genocides that would follow in the century...
