As the attacks on Sen. Tommy Tuberville escalated this week, the Alabama Republican appeared even more determined to undo a new Defense Department policy allowing U.S. military and their family members to obtain taxpayer-funded abortions. Speaking on the Senate floor Wednesday, Tuberville rebuffed yet another Democrat attempt to unanimously approve nearly 200 promotions for military generals and flag officers. It was the third time Tuberville stymied Democrats—and he showed no sign of relenting. “I will stay here until hell freezes over. I am not going to be intimidated by a campaign of selective outrage,” Tuberville said. “I gave the Pentagon...

A planet sized hole has ripped through the surface of the sun letting out intense 1.8 million mph winds which could threaten our entire planet by the end of the week. The gaping hole, which stretches 20 times the size of the Earth, is the second to appear in a week and has sent solar winds hurling towards our planet within the next 24 hours. If the winds make impact with our planet, the Earth’s magnetic field, satellites, and most technologies would cease to work leading to a potential worldwide power cut. The first hole appeared March 23, and triggered...

The collapse of Silicon Valley Bank is expected to cost the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.’s deposit insurance fund roughly $20 billion, the agency estimates, while Signature Bank failure will cost about $2.5 billion. The bulk of those costs relate to covering deposits at the two banks that exceeded the standard federal deposit-insurance limit of $250,000, FDIC chair Martin Gruenberg said in Congressional testimony this week. The FDIC in May will propose a special assessment on banks to repay the insurance fund’s losses stemming from the uninsured deposit coverage, Gruenberg said in his testimony. The proposal comes amid a longer-term debate–predating...

Financial policy for climate change is finally happening. The Securities and Exchange Commission is finalizing a climate disclosure rule that would better protect investors, ensure fair and efficient markets, and enable capital formation in the face of pervasive climate change. In November, the Department of Labor provided new guidance that permits private retirement plans to consider climate change and other environmental, social, and governance factors into investment decisions. The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency has appointed a chief climate risk officer to implement climate risk management frameworks for banks — an unprecedented move by the top banking regulator....
