Google wants to let you know when there is an extreme heat event in your area.
In a blog post, the company announced that it is bringing extreme heat alerts to Google Search. Google says that extreme heat events kill about 500,000 people every year and that search for extreme heat reached a peak in July 2022. The company hopes that, by surfacing alerts when people search, they will take the proper precautions when they are in an impacted area.
Google says that the alerts will be rolling out “in the coming months,” and when users search for extreme heat in an area undergoing an event, get details like when it is supposed to start and end as well as how to stay safe.
The company also announced that Tree Canopy, which works to increase tree coverage in order to cool down cities, is expanding from 14 to 350 cities globally.
The moves come as the planet continues to feel the impacts of climate change.

Sounds like a lot of misinformation/disinformation/malinformation/LIES and threats of a dying planet coming our way.
google, FB, etc should be banned with tik tok.
We all live under a neurotic mother culture now.
I remember when newspapers had a women’s section to handle all the woman’s worries of the world while the news needed to run the nation and deal with the world’s struggles for national success and survival could be in the front section.
That should do about just as much good as smokin’ a burlap sack full of marijuana.
I was not happy with apple’s iphone update last year which included an update to the weather app linked to weather.com.
When you click on the lower left icon, it displays a color map of your country region. It is so biased that the entire region is colorized shades of red, without regard to actual temperature differences.
At the time - last summer - it looked like the entire west coast was on fire.
google’s action is no shocker. They’re turning up the heat.
The only extreme heat is coming from Google in the form of smoke.
I'm not really concerned about Global warming.
Thankfully, we have Google to tell us when it’s hot outside...
My California city already does this - extreme heat and cold alerts - asking us to check on elderly relatives and neighbors.
With the price of energy so high here - electricity and gas - I believe more people, especially those on fixed incomes, won’t turn on the a/c or heat b/c they can’t afford it.
I wonder if this story would appear in an alert?....
