Meteorologists say the explanation for the robust winter season is not so simple. The current La Niña pattern does have an influence on global weather, but Maue said that is only one factor. Bianca Feldkircher, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service, said a persistent blocking pattern over the Pacific Ocean plus cold air migrating south from the Arctic have created the conditions for widespread snowfall along the West Coast. Although many regions struggled with the challenging winter conditions, some are welcoming the much-needed moisture. The recent precipitation is a blessing for ameliorating the drought that has persisted in the...

People with multiple sclerosis (MS) who follow a Mediterranean diet may have a lower risk for problems with memory and thinking skills than those who do not follow the diet, according to a preliminary study. The study involved 563 people with MS. They were assigned a score of zero to 14 based on their responses with higher scores given to those who more closely followed the diet. Participants took...

2023 will be the year that Americans realize: the COVID vaccines are fatal ... The experimental COVID vaccines are beginning to work — like a bio weapon. How do we know? The main point to remember: this trend has already started and it’s accelerating.

A large team has discovered some of the ways gut bacteria can positively impact treatments for cancer. The group studied the impact of gut microbiota on chemotherapy given to patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma. Prior research has shown that chemotherapy for pancreatic cancer that has metastasized sometimes works well but is sometimes ineffective, and this difference may be tied to dietary resistance, though its source is not known. In this new study, the team looked at the possibility that certain microorganisms in the gut microbiome play a role in the process. To better understand how the gut microbiome might play...

A 200-pound Ontario middle schooler was getting ready to pummel his classmate when a group of teachers escorted him to an office where they hoped to calm him down — instead, he proceeded to ram into the two adults, a man and a woman, for the better part of an hour, leaving them shaken and bruised. He never faced any consequences. “You should have seen their bruises. The guy’s back is totally messed up. The girl still has arm issues,” Margaret, a teacher with over a decade of experience in Ontario’s public schools, told National Review. Worried about the potential...

On this date in 1401, Lollard priest William Sawtre(y) was burned at Smithfield for heresy — the first known heresy execution in England. Sawtre was a follower of John Wycliffe, the Biblical translator and church reformer 16 years dead as we lay our scene. Wycliffe anticipated much of Luther’s later critique of the Catholic Church. His call to study Scripture directly without the intercession of doctors in Rome touched a spiritual thirst; his summons to apostolic poverty for the wealthy vicars of Christ was a message with a ready audience. “From about 1390 to 1425, we hear of the Lollards...

This disinformation business sure has gotten complicated lately. In the past few days, a key federal agency concluded that COVID was likely the result of a Chinese lab leak. A prestigious medical journal reported that natural immunity is better than vaccines against COVID. Another that mask mandates were worthless. And President Joe Biden’s advanced age is now, according to Biden, a legitimate issue. All of these claims had been labeled as “disinformation” by the mainstream press, by “independent” fact-checkers, by social media platforms. Anyone who espoused them was attacked as a crazy anti-vaxxer, QAnon racist, Russian stooge who deserved to...

Queen Elizabeth II offered Frogmore Cottage to the couple at the time of their wedding, and it was the couple’s home base on infrequent visits to Britain. Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan, have been asked to move out of Frogmore Cottage, their five-bedroom Georgian house on the grounds of Windsor Castle, the couple’s press secretary said, in a further sign of the bitter rupture between them and the British royal family since they withdrew from royal duties and left Britain. Queen Elizabeth II offered the house to the couple, known as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, at the...

Former FBI agent Steve Friend's disclosure that the FBI field office in New Jersey has a "Wellness Room" that has massage recliners, lounge furniture, and a yoga space for employees has raised some questions regarding whether this is an appropriate use of taxpayer dollars. FBI whistle blower Kyle Seraphin, who spent six years working on counter-terrorism and counterintelligence, was suspended indefinitely without pay after he complained of allegedly questionable activity within the bureau, called the wellness room "emblematic of the worst and weakest parts of the Woke corporate culture. When the work you do is honorable and rewarding, you don't...

A Michigan mom whose two sons died of fentanyl overdoses has slammed President Biden as “despicable” after he laughed off the false claim that his administration was to blame for their deaths. Rebecca Kiessling, whose sons Caleb, 20, and Kyler, 18, died in July 2020 after taking fentanyl-laced Percocet pills, took aim at Biden on Wednesday night after he used her family’s story to knock GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s suggestion he was responsible for the fatalities. “This is how you speak about the death of my sons? Because a congresswoman misspoke? You mock the loss of my sons?” Kiessling...

Hunter Biden plotted in 2019 to betray the family’s top financial lieutenant Eric Schwerin amid their crumbling relationship, built upon an off-the-books business arrangement, text messages obtained by Breitbart News from Hunter’s laptop reveal. Liturgical Dilemma for Diocesan BishopsCOMMENTARY: In forcing the hand of local bishops, Pope Francis has even undermined his own repeated calls for collegial and synodal administration.A dispute about dispensations developed into a diktat from the dicastery that has put dioceses in a difficult dilemma.Liturgical discipline is delicate. The request to Pope Francis, from the Dicastery for Divine Worship (DDW), to tighten the screws on the implementation of Traditionis Custodes — granted by the Holy Father on Feb. 20 — means that Rome has decided that it is a priority to get the “extraordinary form” or Tridentine Mass out of...

“Few men,” said Robert F. Kennedy in his 1966 anti-apartheid “Ripple of Hope” speech to students in South Africa, “are willing to brave the disapproval of their fellows, the censure of their colleagues, the wrath of their society. “Moral courage is a rarer commodity than bravery in battle or great intelligence, yet it is the one essential, vital quality for those who seek to change the world which yields most painfully to change.” Of course, if Kennedy were to make that same speech today, he’d be promptly canceled by the woke brigade for only talking about “men” in relation to...

[Catholic Caucus] "We are in front of a Kafkaesque paradox": Canonical remarks on the Rescriptum of February 21f, formally, the Rescriptum ex Audientia Ss.mi of February 21, 2023 -- an administrative act by which a department head asks for and obtains (rescriptum: "written twice") something from the Supreme Pontiff (Sanctissimi) at the end of an audience (ex Audientia) -- aims to "implement" the motu proprio Traditionis custodes of July 16, 2021, from a practical point of view, it actually alters it in its substantial structure. The Rescript, in fact, subverts the basis on which Traditionis custodes itself is founded, whose first...
