In a cave just south of Lisbon, archaeological deposits conceal a Paleolithic dinner menu. As well as stone tools and charcoal, the site of Gruta de Figueira Brava contains rich deposits of shells and bones with much to tell us about the Neanderthals that lived there—especially about their meals. A study published in Frontiers in Environmental Archaeology shows that 90,000 years ago, these Neanderthals were cooking and eating crabs...A wide variety of shellfish remains were found in the archaeological remains Nabais and her colleagues studied, but the shellfish in the undisturbed Paleolithic deposits are overwhelmingly represented by brown crabs. Their...

Researchers have discovered the active compound from an edible mushroom that boosts nerve growth and enhances memory. Professor Frederic Meunier said the team had identified new active compounds from the mushroom, Hericium erinaceus. "Extracts from these so-called 'lion's mane' mushrooms have been used in traditional medicine in Asian countries for centuries, but we wanted to scientifically determine their potential effect on brain cells," Professor Meunier said. "Pre-clinical testing found the lion's mane mushroom had a significant impact on the growth of brain cells and improving memory. "Laboratory tests measured the neurotrophic effects of compounds isolated from Hericium erinaceus on cultured...

Measurement of plasma D-dimer levels—a test more commonly used to detect blood-clotting disorders—can provide useful information when making the difficult diagnosis of periprosthetic joint infection (PJI), reports a study. Plasma D-dimer measurement has "comparable diagnostic accuracy" to other commonly used tests for identifying PJI, and in some situations outperforms standard tests, according to research by Javad Parvizi, MD, FRCS. PJI is a devastating complication of failed total hip or knee replacement and is one of the leading causes of implant failure. Two common markers of inflammation—C-reactive protein (CRP) and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR)—are recommended as screening tests for suspected PJI....

Seattle, WA, once known as a relatively quiet port town that became a haven for progressives seeking to avoid more dangerous metro areas like Los Angeles or San Fransisco, is joining the long and unfortunate list of Democrat controlled cities suffering from exploding crime stats. Much like Portland, OR, which has spiraled into severe decline in the past five years with a record high homicide rate and expanding homelessness, Seattle is witnessing an aggressive increase in drug related problems as well as violent crime and property theft. In 2022, the city was host to 49,557 instances of violent crime and...

You think you’ve heard it all with the latest potential spycraft, but you haven’t heard anything yet. NORAD hasn’t ruled out space aliens. That’s what Gen. Van Herck said. We have the tape.US F-16 jets shot down another unknown object over Lake Huron today. The Pentagon said they have not ruled out extraterrestrial activity. “I haven’t ruled out anything at this point,” said Gen. Glen D. Van Herck. The UFOs not being balloons would be crazy enough, but things get even weirder when you hear a top US general admit that we don’t even know what is keeping these objects in...

All of you who had “UFO invasion” on your 2023 bingo card may now collect your prizes. After the United States shot down an “unidentified object” on Friday over Alaska, yesterday and today produced a cascading series of reports about strange objects being seen (and in some cases attacked) in the skies around the world. First, on Saturday, joint forces from the United States and Canada shot down another one over a remote region of Yukon in the northwestern part of the country. But just like the one over Alaska, this didn’t look like a balloon at first, and Canadian...

Out: Kate Bedingfield as White House Communications Director. In: Ben LaBolt, a veteran press adviser to former President Barack Obama. When White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre announced that Bedingfield would leave the White House at the end of February and be replaced by Ben LaBolt, she made a point of saying this is a history-making move.According to KJP, it is important for everyone to know that Ben LaBolt is an openly gay man. The Biden administration is all about “representation”, you see, and LaBolt is further proof of that.Jean-Pierre: "Ben [LaBolt] is making history. Here at the Biden White...

Good news, everybody. All those UFOs being shot down over the US and Canada might not be from China after all, leaving the possibility that it’s just an alien invasion on the table.According to the Chicoms, they have detected an unidentified craft over Rizhao and have scrambled jets in response, warning fishermen to stay alert if something comes crashing down out of the sky.MORE – Chinese authorities were preparing to shoot down a UFO.pic.twitter.com/ihpkBhVy3b— Disclose.tv (@disclosetv) February 12, 2023That news was about an hour old as of this writing and no further news has been released on whether China successfully...

by Becca LondonThe NFL played the divisive so-called "Black National Anthem" before Super Bowl LVII on Sunday night.Left-wing "Influencer" and “Victoriously Aware” actress/author Sheryl Lee Ralph sang the anthem. The NFL announced it would be playing the “Black National Anthem” (their words) as “a prominent part of all big league events,” including the Super Bowl, NFL Playoffs, NFL Draft, and NFL Kickoff game. But to its credit, FOX Sports did not identify the song as the Black National Anthem. Instead, they introduced it by its name, “Lift Every Voice and Sing.” The woke league plays the song to reinforce its...

As RedState reported, another shoot-down has taken place, this time over Lake Huron in US airspace. That followed a frenzy over the last several days of intercepts of unidentified flying objects, with others downed over Alaska and Canada. What in the world is going on? We joke about it being aliens, but it’s not aliens, right? So why is the White House being so tight-lipped? Are we to believe the fighters that blew these things out of the sky weren’t able to tell what they were? The current dynamic is just weird. We could be on the brink of a hot...

Alright, maybe I was too quick to dismiss the possibility of aliens. The Pentagon gave a briefing on Sunday evening after yet another unidentified flying object was shot down, this time in US airspace over Lake Huron. Reports began to circulate that the object was an “octagon” and that it didn’t appear to be a balloon. That set off some speculation that the recent rash of UFOs were balloons, likely from China, but that they were simply shaped differently than one would expect. In a pretty shocking statement, though, Gen. Glen VanHerck made it clear that’s not the view of the US...

The U.S. intelligence community claims that they jammed the spy balloon’s signals, mitigating any damage as it flew over sensitive sites. In appearances on two Sunday talk shows, House Foreign Affairs Committee chair Rep. Mike McCaul (R-TX) said that China sending a high-altitude spy balloon across the continental United States “was an act of espionage in plain sight” and revealed that the balloon had a greater capability than satellites to gather and collect imagery, and left open the possibility that these signals and images were still transmitted to Beijing even though US intelligence officials claim that they “mitigated” the damage. On “Sunday...

Ask any veteran goldbug about investing in gold, and they'll likely caution you that the precious metal will too often break your heart.True, investing in gold tends to work in times of trouble. For example, gold prices vaulted past $2,000 an ounce in early March 2022 in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.Cut to today, and with equity markets in turmoil and inflation running high, it's understandable if folks are tempted by the prospects of investing in gold. Just understand that despite some illustrious returns in the 1970s and the first decade of the 21st century, gold has generated...

Did Biden just commit an act of war against a nuclear power? If so this is certainly impeachable. On Friday TGP opined that Biden should be impeached if he blew up our allies energy pipeline.(To be honest, I didn’t want to be labeled a Russian supporter or in collusion with Russia so I labeled the post in this manner. The point was that Biden should be impeached for doing such a thing. But one clever reader responded. Here is a summary of what he shared:(I can’t confirm or deny whether there was US Govt/Military involvement in the Nordstream 2 pipeline attack,...

For those who might have trouble with the bogan (redneck) Aussie accent, here is the text: (Title: A Rat is in the Kitchen) Jim ‘ere. (subtitle: It’s Jim here.) The Pentagon has refused to rule out that the recent unidentified objects shot out of the sky could be aliens - after the latest was gunned down over Lake Huron today. US Air Force General Glen VanHerck said that intelligence services are exploring all avenues - including that the three most recent objects could be linked to extraterrestrials. The shoot down on Sunday occurred after the 'octagonal' object flew near a sensitive US military site in Montana - and had 'potential surveillance capabilities.'
