In a letter to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, the group responsible for regulating wholesale natural gas, Newsom asked the agency to "focus its investigatory resources on assessing whether market manipulation, anticompetitive behavior, or other anomalous activities are driving these ongoing elevated prices in the western gas markets." A slightly different story emerged in the Washington Post, which reported that the Pentagon knew of "past Chinese surveillance balloons near Florida and Texas." Wait a minute: Near Florida and Texas? What does near mean? Were the balloons over those states? Were they offshore but over U.S. territorial waters? The Washington Post suggested the Pentagon was not being entirely clear. "The Defense Department was not specific about where in each state the previous incursions occurred," the paper reported, citing Rep. Michael Waltz, a Republican on the House Armed Services Committee. "[Waltz] added that officials did not say whether the balloons...

We read a LOT of tweets from people who have less than zero amounts of self-awareness, but this from Secretary Antony Blinken about ‘zero tolerance’ for female genital mutilation may be the worst yet considering he’s part of an administration that believes it’s a GOOD thing for minor females to mutilate their genitals to swap genders. In America. Maybe read the room, Antony. Just a little. On International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation, the U.S. condemns the practice of female genital mutilation and cutting as a form of #GBV and a human rights abuse, rooted in gender...

About 18 months ago, there was some chatter in Washington about a COVID commission that would examine the wild response and evaluate its good and bad features and make recommendations for the future. From the looks of it at the time, it seemed pretty obvious where it was going. In effect, it was going to be a cover-up, just government and industry leaders and anointed “experts” touting their wise decision-making while offering some mild tweaks for the future. The commission never formed. Why not? Pretty simple: absolutely no one would have believed it. There are too many people now wise...
