It's a riddle that has left engineers scratching their heads for a very long time. How is it that Rome's famed Pantheon has stayed intact for almost 2,000 years while many modern concrete structures crumble after just a few decades? Now, researchers may have finally discovered the secret behind ancient construction methods – and it's all to do with tiny pieces of lime that come with 'self-healing' capabilities.Close analysis of Roman concrete has revealed tiny, bright white mineral chunks called 'lime clasts'...And they discovered the lime may actually help the concrete 'heal' itself when it cracks or breaks.During the hot mixing process...

Ukraine’s deputy military intelligence chief, Vadym Skibitsky, claimed Friday that Moscow was considering calling up an additional 500,000 troops ahead of planned offensive operations in the spring and summer, The Guardian reported. If confirmed, the mobilization would risk a repeat of the unrest caused by Russian President Vladimir Putin’s attempt to press 300,000 Russians into service this fall.

Shooting and killing her unarmed daughter wasn’t enough. The U.S. Capitol Police arrested Ashli Babbitt’s mother, Micki Witthoeft, today, on the anniversary of her daughter’s death. Micki’s crime? Jaywalking. Witthoeft and a few protesters were peacefully walking on the side of a Washington, D.C., street when a police car pulled up and demanded the small group get on the sidewalk. One officer got a little physical with Witthoeft. After being told by a cop there would be “no discussions,” Witthoeft turned around so the officer could cuff her. FACT-O-RAMA! BLM and Antifa burned Washington, D.C., for four nights. I was...

Researchers from Durham University have decoded the meaning of markings found in Ice Age drawings, providing evidence of early writing at least 20,000 years ago.The team were studying cave art, found in at least 400 European caves such as Lascaux, Chauvet and Altamira, which contains a series of lines and dots found alongside drawings of animals...The team has revealed that the lines and dots indicate the mating and birthing seasons of animals. A "Y" sign formed by adding a diverging line to another has also been determined to mean "giving birth".By using the birth cycles of equivalent animals today as...

Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) appears to have clinched the Speakership. The apparent win came on the 15th ballot, after a long day and moments of drama and chaos on the House floor. Five Republican holdouts so far have voted “present” on the final ballot, lowering the vote threshold by enough to hand McCarthy the gavel.

Children could be left without welfare checks due to homeschooling, the government has been warned, as new figures show a surge in the numbers being educated at home. England’s children’s commissioner and education unions have raised concerns over the safeguarding of home-educated pupils and warned some could drop off the radar of authorities without increased protections. Numbers of home-educated students have jumped by 40 per cent since 2018, Freedom of Information requests reveal. In the 171 local authorities that provided data, there were 81,250 children learning at home in 2022 compared to 57,531 four years ago, before the pandemic. But...

The EU just slapped Facebook parent company Meta with a nearly half-billion-dollar fine, but that’s the least of the company’s worries in Europe. Mark Zuckerberg’s data-hoovering social media colossus will have to write the EU a $413-million check for violating user privacy in EU member countries. For a company that made nearly $40 billion in 2021 alone, even a fine as large as that — which Meta will certainly contest — won’t force the company to change its ways. “More significantly,” reports France24, “European regulators dismissed the legal basis Meta had used to justify gathering users’ personal data for use...

Kevin McCarthy was well aware he was going to lose his bid to become Speaker of the House of Representatives on the first ballot, three people with knowledge of the situation told Rolling Stone. What he was not privately predicting was that the beatings would continue for an entire week.

In a stunning display on the chamber floor late Friday, Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) cast a dramatic present vote for Speaker, which is preventing Rep. Kevin McCarthy from securing the 217 total votes he needs to win the Speakership. McCarthy has 216 votes, with 212 for Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) and four Republicans voting for other candidates. Gaetz and Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) voted present. That means McCarthy has 216 of the 432 votes cast, one less than he needs for a majority. It was a shock to Republicans, who entered the vote in good spirits, optimistic that McCarthy would...

Ron Paul is a political hero for me. A glorious voice against the folly of war. As Goldwater laid the foundations for Nixon and Reagan, I see the long-lasting Texas congressman as the guy who built the moral foundation on which the much more theatrical and pragmatic Donald Trump could build a presidency. Rand Paul doesn't seem to me be everything his father was in terms of innovative ideas. But he is very much his father's son. His good-looking, strategically oriented wife is part of the Libertarian EVOLution. God Bless Family. God Bless Freedom.

As we reported earlier, a bunch of the people who had been holding out against Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) for Speaker of the House flipped their vote to support him.The people who flipped all used the same language when asked about why they flipped, indicating that they believed that they had negotiated in good faith and that there was a framework for an agreement in place; so they were voting for McCarthy, believing progress was continuing. Here’s a sample of the types of things there were saying, from Rep. Scott Perry (R-PA).We’re at a turning point. I’ve negotiated in good...

Just thinking about it if the rumors are true about the concessions (and they better be in writing) then Rep. Kevin McCarthy will be the most constrained and hobbled Speaker in a long time. Think about it. The motion to vacate has been restored so if they (conservatives) want to ditch him in future they can call a vote. Regular order has been restored (it seems) so no more 4,000 page bills released in the dead of night written by lobbyists. A Church committee under the auspices of Jim Jordan's Judiciary committee. The ability to defund agencies and salaries (Holman...

Newly elected U.S. Sen. John Fetterman’s ascendance into the pop culture pantheon might have reached a crescendo with news that orders are now being taken for a Fetterman bobblehead. On Friday, the 4-year-old National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum, located in Milwaukee, is selling a Fetterman bobblehead for $30 that is expected to ship — for an additional $8 — to buyers in May. Phil Sklar, co-founder and CEO of the Hall of Fame and Museum, said in a statement that the bobblehead was being released to coincide with Fetterman’s Jan. 3 swearing-in and National Bobblehead Day, which is...
