In a stunning display on the chamber floor late Friday, Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) cast a dramatic present vote for Speaker, which is preventing Rep. Kevin McCarthy from securing the 217 total votes he needs to win the Speakership.
McCarthy has 216 votes, with 212 for Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) and four Republicans voting for other candidates. Gaetz and Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) voted present.
That means McCarthy has 216 of the 432 votes cast, one less than he needs for a majority.
It was a shock to Republicans, who entered the vote in good spirits, optimistic that McCarthy would win the Speakership on this ballot after showing momentum earlier in the day.
The floor became chaotic for several minutes after the vote and it’s unclear what will happen next.

I like me some chaos.
At the end of this current vote (15th) McCarthy will be speaker but MUCH power will have been returned to individual Representatives AND THEREFORE THE PEOPLE. It’s been worth the struggle.

What a BS title. Gaetz was not the only one to not vote in Kevin’s favor. Kevin, and the MSM, and his fellow democrats will forever punish the small group of republicans who stood in their way.

A patriot who wants the investigations to begin. How much more does Gaetz et al want? They are being childish and petulant at this time.
I’m guessing in the next few minutes it’ll be Speaker McCarthy like it or not.
That was my prediction from the start, everything else was showmanship or to those who actually understand government..BULLSHIT.
