In a stunning display on the chamber floor late Friday, Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) cast a dramatic present vote for Speaker, which is preventing Rep. Kevin McCarthy from securing the 217 total votes he needs to win the Speakership. McCarthy has 216 votes, with 212 for Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) and four Republicans voting for other candidates. Gaetz and Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) voted present. That means McCarthy has 216 of the 432 votes cast, one less than he needs for a majority. It was a shock to Republicans, who entered the vote in good spirits, optimistic that McCarthy would...

Ron Paul is a political hero for me. A glorious voice against the folly of war. As Goldwater laid the foundations for Nixon and Reagan, I see the long-lasting Texas congressman as the guy who built the moral foundation on which the much more theatrical and pragmatic Donald Trump could build a presidency. Rand Paul doesn't seem to me be everything his father was in terms of innovative ideas. But he is very much his father's son. His good-looking, strategically oriented wife is part of the Libertarian EVOLution. God Bless Family. God Bless Freedom.

As we reported earlier, a bunch of the people who had been holding out against Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) for Speaker of the House flipped their vote to support him.The people who flipped all used the same language when asked about why they flipped, indicating that they believed that they had negotiated in good faith and that there was a framework for an agreement in place; so they were voting for McCarthy, believing progress was continuing. Here’s a sample of the types of things there were saying, from Rep. Scott Perry (R-PA).We’re at a turning point. I’ve negotiated in good...

Just thinking about it if the rumors are true about the concessions (and they better be in writing) then Rep. Kevin McCarthy will be the most constrained and hobbled Speaker in a long time. Think about it. The motion to vacate has been restored so if they (conservatives) want to ditch him in future they can call a vote. Regular order has been restored (it seems) so no more 4,000 page bills released in the dead of night written by lobbyists. A Church committee under the auspices of Jim Jordan's Judiciary committee. The ability to defund agencies and salaries (Holman...

Newly elected U.S. Sen. John Fetterman’s ascendance into the pop culture pantheon might have reached a crescendo with news that orders are now being taken for a Fetterman bobblehead. On Friday, the 4-year-old National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum, located in Milwaukee, is selling a Fetterman bobblehead for $30 that is expected to ship — for an additional $8 — to buyers in May. Phil Sklar, co-founder and CEO of the Hall of Fame and Museum, said in a statement that the bobblehead was being released to coincide with Fetterman’s Jan. 3 swearing-in and National Bobblehead Day, which is...

An old map believed to mark the spot where German soldiers hid treasure worth millions of dollars during World War II sparked the imagination of amateur treasure hunters in the Netherlands this week. Armed with metal detectors and shovels, groups wandered through the fields surrounding rural Ommeren in the east of the country after the map was made public by the Dutch National Archive on Tuesday. The archive said the map was believed to indicate where Nazi soldiers had hidden four large boxes filled with diamonds, rubies, gold, silver and all sorts of jewelry which they had looted after an...

Researchers have found more evidence that dry fasting (fasting without food or liquid intake) from dawn to dusk for four weeks has an anti-atherosclerotic, anti-inflammatory and anti-tumorigenic effect on the proteins in a type of immune cell called a peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC). "We know that disruptions of the circadian rhythm are associated with cancer and metabolic syndrome. This type of fasting can potentially act as a reset to normal for the circadian rhythm," said Dr. Ayse Leyla Mindikoglu. "After fasting, our participants lost weight, and their blood pressure and insulin resistance improved." The researchers previously found similar results...

Tech billionaire Elon Musk has been labelled the “richest troll on Earth” by a top gun safety advocate. Since Musk took over Twitter in a £37 billion deal last year, he has allegedly allowed controversial posts to run riot on the platform under the guise of free speech. And the Tesla founder has even posted some of his own shocking thoughts and personal images on the site. One of which was of his bedside table featuring a can of coke, and an unlocked gun – which looked real at the time but later turned out not to be. This image...

By popular request, this is Night Cap thread from "High Noon" LIVE from D.C. in the heart of the Swamp! Did McCarthy make a deal to get enough support from the Stubborn Six (TM registerd by Dr. Franklin) hold out Republicans to become Speaker? Or maybe to get the Dems to vote present, or not vote, such that he might become Speaker underhandedly, e.g., A new post office in your district if you stay home tonight my Uniparty Dem buddy? Will Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) again nominate President Donald John Trump, the rightful President of the United States, to be...

Among the many incendiary claims in Spare, Prince Harry's upcoming memoir, the boast that he killed 25 Taliban while serving as an Army helicopter pilot in Afghanistan will do him the most long-term damage by far. I doubt he will recover from it. Most of the revelations in his book amount to a further public airing of his family's dirty laundry, an endeavour to which he and wife Meghan have devoted their lives since running off in a huff to California. Jaw-dropping as some of them are, their real import serves merely to confirm what most had already concluded about...

Cardinals express anger, bewilderment at 'scorched earth' papal homily VATICAN CITY (ChurchMilitant.com) - Pope Francis foiled plans for a state funeral for Benedict XVI and ordered the scaling down of his predecessor's burial rites, Church Militant has learned. Vatican officials involved in the coordination of the pope's emeritus funeral rites revealed that Francis personally intervened to deny Benedict the "shoulder procession" of his coffin being borne by pallbearers from the Mater Ecclesiae Monastery to St. Peter's Basilica. Francis, instead, ordered Benedict's body to be transported by minivan from the pope emeritus' monastic residence to the basilica. An insider told Church...

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, has rejected calls to scrap the Church of England’s transgender guidance which affirms children as young as five in gender confusion. In an open letter to the Archbishop, Christian parents Nigel and Sally Rowe had called on the Church of England (CofE) to urgently scrap its ‘Valuing All God’s Children’ (VAGC) guidance which covers 4,700 CofE primary schools. The letter was sent following the Rowes’ legal victory against the Department for Education (DfE) in September 2022, which led to a £22,000 settlement for legal costs and a commitment from the government to reform its...

A former staffer for Herschel Walker's failed Senate campaign says he was groped by Matt Schlapp, the chairman of the American Conservative Union who is a longtime Republican activist and an ally of former President Donald Trump. On Thursday, The Daily Beast reported that the staffer — who asked to remain anonymous, only sharing that he is a male in his late 30s — was the victim of "sustained and unwanted and unsolicited" sexual contact by Schlapp in October.
