Major brands are weighing the option of boycotting Twitter after a Reuters investigation found their ads appeared next to tweets soliciting child pornography, while the leftist tech company insists it has “zero tolerance” for child exploitation. Some brands, including Dyson, Mazda, Forbes, and PBS Kids have already suspended marketing campaigns on Twitter, according to the report. A Reuters review of data from cybersecurity firm Ghost Data found ads for major brands appearing on Twitter alongside tweets that sought or promoted child pornography, including one user who tweeted “trading teen/child” content, as well as “13+” content and “young looking nudes.” Such...

Sen. Mitt Romney’s (R-UT) decision not to endorse Sen. Mike Lee’s (R-UT) reelection bid has infuriated Senate Republicans and conservative activists. Romney, Utah’s junior senator, has declined — and even refused — to endorse Lee’s reelection bid. Lee is the senior senator from Utah. Senate Republicans are becoming increasingly alarmed by the decision, noting that even though Senate Republicans may have their differences on policy, they typically stand united against Republican opponents. “I respect [Romney], and I understand that each state has its own dynamics, but I do not understand why he is remaining neutral,” one Republican senator said anonymously....

Wednesday’s decision by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals builds on a 2018 ruling involving the city of Boise, which found a person cannot be punished for sleeping in public if there’s nowhere else for them to go. A federal appeals court Wednesday upheld a ruling that found the city of Grants Pass in southern Oregon violated the constitutional rights of people experiencing homelessness through a series of ordinances designed to prevent sleeping outside on public property. In a 2-1 decision, judges on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals largely upheld a 2020 injunction issued by U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark Clarke,...

Protests continue to roil Iran after the shocking death of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old woman arrested by the morality police for an “improper hijab,” who is widely believed to have been beaten to death while in custody of the guards. Despite a crackdown that has so far claimed at least 76 lives, Iranians are not ready to back away and are raising their voices, more strongly than ever, demanding the abolition of the vice squads and the annulment of the hijab mandate. No apologies have been offered by the authorities, no resignations extended, and the Ministry of Interior, tasked with...

Conservative radio host Mark Levin ripped apart President Joe Biden’s insane climate change agenda that has hamstrung American energy production and obliterated billions in taxpayer dollars. The Great One ripped Biden’s United Nations speech where the president was “lecturing about climate change” while drooling over his supposed green achievements like the $369 billion in climate spending he signed under the misleadingly named “Inflation Reduction Act.” Levin wasted no time mocking Biden for his phony display of eco-expertise in his speech during the Sept. 27 edition of LevinTV: “[Biden’s a] scientist. He’s a climatologist, a meteorologist, a physicist, an astrologist. He’s...

The lawmakers have asked Buttigieg to find out whether DeSantis violated the department’s rules by allegedly misleading migrants in order to get them to board the planes to Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts earlier this month. The Democrats’ push to investigate DeSantis comes as the Florida governor is dealing with the massive damage caused by Hurricane Ian to his state this week. Multiple outlets...

High-dose folic acid is protective against congenital malformations if the mother is at particular risk of having a child with congenital malformations. Treatment with antiseizure medication in pregnancy is associated with risk of congenital malformations in the children, and women with epilepsy are therefore often recommended a supplementary high dose of folic acid (4–5 mg daily) before and during pregnancy. However, some studies have raised concern that folic acid can increase the risk of cancer not only in the mother, but in the child when exposed during pregnancy. "We found an increased risk of childhood cancer if the child was...

This mystery ocean creature is under investigation by curious scientists. - NOAA Ocean Exploration From the same science folks who brought us weird seafloor holes and a ghostly squid comes a new mystery of the deep: a "blue goo" animal. President Joe Biden claimed Thursday he spoke with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) about the federal government response to Hurricane Ian “four or five times” after initially resisting calling the governor personally. The White House spent most of Tuesday defending the president for resisting making a personal phone call to DeSantis prior to the storm, despite previously doing so for other governors facing damaging hurricanes. DeSantis told reporters Tuesday evening he had not heard from Biden personally, but that he would be “happy to brief the President if he’s interested in hearing what we’re doing in Florida.”

The rim rock crowned snake was found dead in the Florida Keys, locked in lifeless combat with a giant centipede it had managed to swallow halfway. Credit: Drew Martin The snake was recently spotted for the first time in four years. After a four-year absence, the rarest snake in North America, the Tantilla oolitica (rim rock crowned snake), was recently discovered at a park in the Florida Keys. The snake encounter was more of a source of astonishing awe than anything else, despite the fact that this would typically be a reason for joy among conservationists. The snake was discovered...

Cystic fibrosis patients who supplement their diet with vitamin C can also derive greater benefit from another antioxidant, vitamin E, resulting in a reduction in damaging inflammation, a study suggests. "Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disease that is associated with increased inflammation, and it comes with a large amount of oxidative stress," said Maret Traber. "In addition to oxidative stress, cystic fibrosis is also characterized by problems with fat absorption, which limits uptake of vitamin E, a fat-soluble antioxidant," said Traber. "Low vitamin E levels plus high oxidative stress is a recipe for more inflammation." Patients' difficulties with fat absorption...

Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) is associated with a greater capacity for selective and sustained attention in adolescents, while alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) is associated with lower impulsivity, according to a study. The results confirm the importance of having a diet that provides sufficient amounts of these polyunsaturated fatty acids for a healthy brain development. During adolescence, important structural and functional changes occur in the brain, especially in the prefrontal area, which plays a major role in controlling attention. On the other hand, omega-3 unsaturated fatty acids are known to be critical for proper brain development and function. The most abundant fatty acid...

Good afternoon fellow Freepers. I got a project that I'm working on but I don't know how to make it work. Basically, I have a PDF file with areas that need text or digital signature blocks added, but I'm looking to find out if there is a way to overlay a PDF with those items in key positions onto the primary PDF file, and have everything line up. As it is right now, I manually add those items one at a time and the time it takes to do 20-30 forms is killing me. There's got to be a way...
