A hunter was mauled by a grizzly bear in Alaska this week after approaching her and her three cubs — leaving him with serious puncture wounds on his arms, wildlife officials said. Nicholas Kuperus, of Michigan, was able to escape what could have been a lethal attack Tuesday after using bear spray, Alaska Wildlife Troopers said in a statement. Kuperus, 33, had stumbled on the mama bear and her cubs while hunting with other people about 60 miles north of Glennallen in the upper East Fork Indian River, the statement said.

A former Nevada deputy attorney general who was tied to the infamous Mustang Ranch brothel has been arrested in the brutal murder of a teenage girl 50 years ago in Hawaii. Tudor Chirila Jr., 77, was arrested in Reno and has been charged with second-degree murder after DNA evidence linked him to the fatal stabbing of 19-year-old Nancy Anderson in 1972.
