A hunter was mauled by a grizzly bear in Alaska this week after approaching her and her three cubs — leaving him with serious puncture wounds on his arms, wildlife officials said.
Nicholas Kuperus, of Michigan, was able to escape what could have been a lethal attack Tuesday after using bear spray, Alaska Wildlife Troopers said in a statement.
Kuperus, 33, had stumbled on the mama bear and her cubs while hunting with other people about 60 miles north of Glennallen in the upper East Fork Indian River, the statement said.

They were fortunate to have a satellite phone with them in their remote location.
Interestingly, the new iPhone 14 smartphones contain new hardware that allows emergency message service, which Apple plans to turn on with a software update coming November. That’s a great feature for folks who occasionally will be in remote locations where cell phone service is unavailable.. could be a lifesaver if they get lost.

Sounds like the hunters were not messing with the bear.
More like they didn’t want to find a bear at all.
Making excuses for bears that attack humans in bad policy.
Bears that attack humans along with their cubs should be killed and taken out of the gene pool.

Only a small percentage of sow grizzly bears with cubs do this.
Eliminate them, the number of attacks by grizzly bears will dramatically decrease.

When living in small town Pa. raising family woke up one foggy morning seeing two bear cubs romping around under our tree. Observed from window could not see mother around but certainly wasn’t about ready to go out there either!
