The internet, social media and my smart phone had ceased to be my servants and had become my masters, but I turned it around. About five years ago, I noticed I was struggling to focus while reading. Instead of turning to the next page of the book, I kept wanting to grab my phone and fiddle with it. I had to keep re-reading paragraphs because my mind was wandering, and I’d get to the end of a page and not remember what I had just read. I almost felt itchy. Sooner or later I would always give up and, before...

Is There an Evac Plan for the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad? Tue Aug 30, 2022 Daniel Greenfield That sounds like a stupid question except that the attack on the Benghazi consulate netted an ambassador with no response from America. As part of that round of September 11 anniversary attacks, consulates and embassies were targeted in the region with little pushback. And the Afghanistan disaster happened in no small part because there was no evacuation plan. Biden had made it a "priority" to maintain an embassy in Kabul even after he had withdrawn the troops and the country was on the...

Sources told the newsletter Gelles’ first task “is deciding what to do about Chuck Todd, who despite recently signing a two-year extension, as Confider has learned, has baffled many at NBC with how long he’s remained atop the struggling show.” NBC News White House Correspondent Kristen Welker is rumored to be a possible replacement on Meet the Press, which is the longest-running television show, having debuted in 1947. “Todd was already demoted once this year when his Meet the Press Daily broadcast on MSNBC was relegated to NBC’s streaming service,” Confider noted. “And earlier this year, with NBC Universal CEO...

NEW YORK (AP) — At 24, El Johnson has made up her mind that she won’t bear children, though she and her girlfriend haven’t ruled out adoption. The graduate student who works in legal services in Austin, Texas, has a list of reasons for not wanting to give birth: the climate crisis and a genetic health condition among them. “I don’t think it’s responsible to bring children into this world,” Johnson said. “There are already kids who need homes. I don’t know what kind of world it’s going to be in 20, 30, 40 years.” She’s so sure, in fact,...

… the prevalence of drugs at BUD/S has some men in the top reaches of the SEALs deeply unnerved… Sailors who enter the program bolstered by steroids and hormones can push harder, recover faster and probably beat out the sailors who are trying to become SEALs while clean…the inevitable effect, he said, is that a course designed to select the very best will end up selecting only the very best cheaters… ….The Navy uncovered what the senior SEAL leader called “a steroid ring” in 2012. He said BUD/S began testing candidates that year, but the testing lapsed a few years...

Progressive Democrats, including President Biden, constantly complain about threats to democracy. And yet, they are more than willing to disregard the democratic process if that’s what it takes to get their way. Biden’s half-trillion-dollar student loan “forgiveness” overreach is the latest and most egregious example. Progressives have increasingly embraced the “one person, one vote, once” view of democracy. Once their candidate is elected president, it is his (or eventually her) job to implement the progressive agenda. If the president has the votes in Congress to pass that agenda through the normal, constitutionally mandated process, fine. Go with that. But if...

President Joe Biden plans to deliver a prime-time speech this week about how America’s “rights and freedoms are still under attack,” returning to the core message of his 2020 campaign as Americans are getting ready to vote in the November midterm elections. A White House official said Thursday's address at Independence National Historical Park in Philadelphia would focus on “the continued battle for the soul of the nation” and show how the president sees the central argument of his 2020 candidacy remains as salient as ever with the midterm elections coming into clearer focus. The president will lay out how...

President Joe Biden says he hopes his proposal to forgive federal student loans will narrow the nation’s racial wealth gap. But a generation of Black and Hispanic Americans was disproportionately shut out of one of the keys to Biden’s plan: the Pell Grant program. As part of the “war on drugs” — a consequential, anti-crime legislative agenda that Biden championed as a U.S. senator — an estimated hundreds of thousands of convicted drug offenders had their access to federal financial aid delayed or denied, including Pell Grants and student loans. If they wanted to go to college after their prison...

(Reuters) - Top New York City and California pension officials want payments processors Visa Inc, Mastercard Inc and American Express to create a new tool to track suspicious gun purchases. Pray For The Peace of JerusalemExodus 13Consecration of the Firstborn 13 The Lord said to Moses, 2 “Consecrate to me every firstborn male.
