NYC, California pension leaders seek payment codes for gun sellers

(Reuters) - Top New York City and California pension officials want payments processors Visa Inc, Mastercard Inc and American Express to create a new tool to track suspicious gun purchases.

Staff for New York City Comptroller Brad Lander, who oversees pension funds, said he has filed shareholder resolutions at Mastercard and American Express asking their boards to explain their views on whether to add a new "merchant category code" for firearms stores.

Lander and a California State Teachers' Retirement System portfolio manager made a similar request to Visa, whose deadline for 2023 shareholder proposals has passed.

In Aug. 29 letters to the three companies seen by Reuters, the pension officials wrote such codes would help financial firms meet obligations to report suspicious purchases, and noted the four-digit codes are already assigned to specialized businesses like bowling alleys.

Currently, "banks and payment networks cannot readily identify sales made by standalone gun and ammunition retailers," the officials wrote.

And once it’s implemented in those bastions of communism, they’ll bludgeon the card banks into making it mandatory in the other 48 states.

See how that works?

With 52,799 FFL dealers in the US and 87,000 new IRS agents, that’s more than 1.6 new IRS agents per dealer.

seek payment codes for gun sellers

Actually, they want to know who are the gun BUYERS.

That's the database they really want.

But why would “top pension managers” want or need these codes? It seems more like an implied threat, “If you don’t help us with our social agenda (against guns), we’re going to stop using your cards and banks, and stop investing in your companies, with/for our pension funds” maybe?

Why stop there? How about having Visa Inc, Mastercard Inc and American Express create tools to track suspicious purchases such as donations to Conservative Groups or Candidates? Or course if Trump is elected President we could have the Credit Card companies track sales to help prevent the spread of Monkey Pox. Say Gay Bars, Gay Events, etc..... After all we are trying to save lives! The Ends always justifies the Means!

Using payment processors to build gun registries. It would be a pretty good guess that access would not be limited to residents of New York City and California.

The firearms business will become a cash customer business very quickly, I would bet that most customers are already paying cash!! I would NEVER use a CC to purchase a firearm ALWAYS CASH!!!

Code is irrelevant. Government with access to credit card data can already cross reference merchant accounts with every gun store address in the country.

When you have a POS device in a store, the location is always logged with the merchant provider. Even if the business is registered elsewhere.

There are ways around it like portable card readers registered to another business but they have higher fees and less fraud protection than a brick and mortar setup.

“Found this pdf on the 4 digit codes already in place. I was unaware.”

These codes are actually used by corporate Finance departments to allow, or disallow, certain transactions on their Corporate cards. They can identify what codes to turn on for approved transaction-types, for example:

- Airlines
- Hotels
- Restaurants
- Taxi Services

Conversely, certain transactions would NOT be allowed, such as Daycare or Automotive Repair and would be turned off on the corporate cards as disallowed transactions.

Additionally, some personal financial software uses these codes for reporting, to periodically show YOU how much YOU spent on:

- Restaurants
- Gasoline
- Travel

That said, I can see the Biden regime and like minded government agencies wanting to incorporate this type of thinking into their global currency and human control schemes.

Harbinger of the trend for "Social Credit" here since it works so well in free and liberal PRC (Peoples Republic of China).

Example: 2045, Jane Doe at the Social Security Office.
SS Examiner: "Yes I see your complaint but I am afraid it is the law that your SS payment has been reduced. I'm sorry but there is nothing that we can do about this.
Ms Doe (Pronouns: She & Her): I do not understand, where is the explanation for this? All I got was a letter say my SC score is too low for full payment.
Inspector: Well yes, that is how this works by the Social Credit Score matrix (SCSM). You see when the SS Trust Fund ran out of money in 2034, part of the fix was to use the SCSM to adjust the payments to reflect good citizenship. That action was delayed for 10 years to allow for time to do the proper allocations.
Ms Doe: But what is this SCSM and why is it punishing me? I'm a mom and grandmom. I have done nothing criminal in my life!
Inspector: No, I'm sorry but that is not what your double top-secret SCSM reveals! In 2025, you bought a box of .22LRs on your Visa card. The next year you put a payment to Project Veritas on that same card.
- - Both of these have been determined to be antisocial to the WestAm society. However, in this case, due to this revised rules coming into effect, I am authorized to issue you this one-time script for a bag of cat litter.

See how this works!
