FLOWER MOUND, Texas (BP) – The Village Church announced Sunday (Aug. 28) that lead pastor Matt Chandler will take a leave of absence from teaching and preaching following his admission to “inappropriate messaging” with a woman on Instagram. Chandler admitted the messaging was “unguarded and unwise” though the messages were neither “romantic nor sexual” in nature, but the “frequency and familiarity” was not wise for someone in his position. Chandler said the church’s elders determined his “inability to see this for what it was revealed something not right and unhealthy,” adding that The Village “cannot be a place that does...

"In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. "And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also." "I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also." John, Chapter 14 1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God,...

Lizzo used her moment in the spotlight at MTV’s Video Music Awards (VMAs) to claim that laws in the United States were “oppressing us.” The artist took home the prize at Sunday’s event for “Music Video for Good,” and despite admitting she wasn’t even sure what a “music video for good” was, she immediately pivoted to talk about the power of a single vote and call on her fans to vote and change the laws that were “oppressing us.” WATCH: “I don’t know what ‘Music Video for Good’ means,” Lizzo laughed, adding, “But I do know what your vote means,...

Business owners in the Castro are attempting to take matters into their own hands when it comes to the San Francisco neighborhood’s unhoused population. The Castro Merchants Association sent a letter to city officials outlining three demands: 35 shelter beds designated for “mentally ill and substance-abusing individuals who have taken up residence in the Castro,” a request for monthly metrics on the services offered or provided to unhoused people in the neighborhood, and a plan for what to do after people decline services. Dave Karraker, co-president of the Castro Merchants Association, told SFGATE that businesses will potentially stop paying taxes...

Chicago Police officers were attacked by "side show" drivers and watchers over the weekend as the trend of taking over street intersections to do vehicle stunts are becoming a mainstay in the Windy City. While "side shows" might seem like harmless fun, it can turn dangerous very quickly as spectators can be harmed if the driver loses control. The nighttime events have become problematic for responding Chicago police officers as the crowd often attacks them with fireworks and rocks. Videos posted to social media shows how out of control the crowds became towards the officers, with people even jumping on...

Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson has failed to convince a judge to dismiss a case that could force the state to remove 25,975 deceased people from its voter rolls. Benson moved for dismissal of a case brought against her in November 2021 by the Public Interest Legal Foundation (PILF) for her failure to clean up the state’s voter registration rolls—in an alleged violation of Section 8 of the National Voter Registration Act of 1993. On Aug. 25, Benson’s motion to dismiss the case was denied by the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan. The court also...

The Mar-a-Lago raid and hiring of 87,000 new IRS agents created by the Orwellian-named Inflation Reduction Act are part of the same agenda. Democrats, having failed to attain their short-term goals, are arranging to keep their totalitarian agenda alive through Republican congresses and possibly a presidential administration. The widespread belief that the Biden regime wants to prevent Donald Trump from running for president in 2024 is mistaken. If Trump does not run, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis will be our next president. Many people would vote for DeSantis who would not vote for Trump because of Democrats’ and their partners’ seven...

LOS ANGELES — If three new movies debut in theatres, but nobody goes to see them… That is how Sony’s creepy thriller “The Invitation” managed to top box office charts with a paltry $7 million. Its win comes with some pretty weak bragging rights; it’s the lowest first-place finish since May 2021, when COVID was keeping people at home. Now, it’s not the pandemic that’s preventing audiences from going to theatres, it’s the lack of appealing options. Overall, the domestic box office generated just $54 million over the weekend, the worst collective result in months. And the bad times are...

As the sun set in Wyoming, U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney described her blowout loss as the beginning of a more consequential step in her political career. She summoned Abraham Lincoln, who lost elections for the House and Senate and still went on to become one of the nation's most accomplished presidents. But in the days since, would-be supporters in key states have openly expressed skepticism about a Cheney presidential run, even one solely designed to block Donald Trump's return to the White House. In fact, Republican voters and local officials in three of the states that matter most in presidential...

The IRS official chosen to lead the new "centralized office" featuring the nearly 87,000 new employees funded in President Biden's Inflation Reduction Act was involved in the agency's targeting of conservative groups that opposed Barack Obama's reelection in 2012. Nikole Flax served as the chief of staff for then acting IRS Commissioner Stephen Miller, who was fired amid a cover-up of the scandal. When Republican lawmakers sought communications related to the scandal in an investigation, Flax's emails were among those the agency claimed were lost in a computer hard-drive crash. The IRS, the lawmakers charged, was attempting to "cover up...

Los Angeles County health officials found out Tuesday that the federal government slashed the county’s requested and expected monkeypox vaccine allotment by 60%. This story is part of a partnership that includes KPCC/LAist, NPR and KHN. It can be republished for free. Last week, the FDA told health care providers to split a one-dose vial of the monkeypox vaccine into five doses. Zombie ice from the massive Greenland ice sheet will eventually raise global sea level by at least 10 inches (27 centimeters) on its own, according to a study released Monday. Zombie or doomed ice is ice that is still attached to thicker areas of ice, but is no longer getting fed by those larger glaciers. That’s because the parent glaciers are getting less replenishing snow. Meanwhile the doomed ice is melting from climate change, said study co-author William Colgan, a glaciologist at the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland. “It’s dead ice. It’s just going to melt and disappear from...
