Hundreds of migrants — at least some bussed to the Big Apple by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott — lined up outside Lincoln Hospital in the Bronx on Sunday to get health care coverage, food and other items including school supplies and free phones. The event, organized by the city hospital system, was billed as a “resource and family fun day” for the migrants and their children, many of whom have come to New York City in droves in recent weeks. “I came to New York about three days ago. I am a welder, and I am looking for work here,”...

Something amazing has happened. Many posts ago, I told people that Yes, I am open to taking requests for free open source audiobook production and I meant it. I would be curious to know any directions people would like to go - of course, I have my own goals and a much greater lack of manpower than anybody can know. But there's plenty of room for overlap, and that post will never have an expiration date. But there has been a change recently, and most importantly, the reverse has come true. I've been in contact with someone, and after many...

Don Bolduc is poised to upset two party favorites in the race for the Republican nomination for Senate in New Hampshire, a development boosting Democratic confidence in Sen. Maggie Hassan’s prospects of surviving a red midterm election wave. The two contenders preferred by New Hampshire GOP officials, state Senate President Chuck Morse and former Londonderry Town Manager Kevin Smith, trailed with 16% and 4%, respectively. snip “If Bolduc is the nominee, folks in New Hampshire and D.C....

As support for immigration falls, and the ‘wall’ becomes more popular; ironically, non-enforcement can be ‘anti-immigrant’ On August 18, NPR’s “Morning Edition” ran the results of a poll the outlet conducted with research outfit Ipsos on respondents’ perceptions of immigration. More than half (53 percent) believe it is either wholly or partially true that there is an “invasion” occurring at the Southwest border, while support for immigration is falling and a border “wall” is becoming more popular. That poll also reveals the toll “Biden’s Border Fiasco” is inflicting on Americans’ support for immigration. “Invasion”. That poll was conducted between July...

Public schools even for the youngest children are becoming playgrounds for the woke, featuring drag queens, transgender closets, Critical Race Theory and more, but if you say a word about it, the National Education Association (NEA) will destroy you. That is the message of a new YouTube ad from the NEA’s New Jersey chapter. According to Fox News Thursday, “the ad flips back and forth between colorful photos of teachers with students and black-and-white photos of parents, arguing that the latter are trying to fuse politics with education.” Which, of course, the hard-Left, thoroughly politicized NEA itself would never ever...

There are multiple tough strategic realities for the United States to absorb. Regardless of who wins the Ukrainian war, the United States will be the strategic loser. Russia will build closer relations with China and other countries on the Eurasian continent, including India, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the Gulf states. It will turn irrevocably away from European democracies and Washington. Just as President Richard Nixon and Henry Kissinger played the “China card” to isolate the Soviet Union during the Cold War, presidents Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping will play their cards in a bid to contain U.S. global leadership. Knowing...

After Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas' Holocaust denial, Germany has increasingly been called on to impose sanctions on the PA and decrease its aid to the Palestinians. Former German parliamentarian Volker Beck proposed a creative idea this week to resolve the crisis regarding the compensation to the families of 11 Israeli athletes who were killed at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich by members of a Palestinian group. After Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas accused Israel of committing "50 (sic) Holocaust" against Palestinians while in Germany, and refused to apologize for his remarks, Beck who heads the German-Israeli Parliamentary Friendship...

Among the arguments against the policy of admitting students to colleges because they have the right ancestry—that is, they appear to come from “underrepresented” minority groups—is the fact that it can mismatch students and schools. At least sometimes, students admitted to fulfill perceived diversity needs are far behind their classmates in academic ability and find the level of rigor in the classroom to be overwhelming. Opponents of racial preferences contend that mismatch has serious consequences that are usually overlooked. Defenders of racial preferences minimize the extent of mismatch and say that the benefits of increased diversity outweigh any costs. A...

Side Note by Rooster: I post this because I just came across a reference to CLT by Victor Davis Hanson HERE (article posted at FR).Though some Freepers may be quite familiar with it, I was not (and I have made a careful study of Critical Race Theory over the years). I thought other Freepers might appreciate the heads-up re: this matter.Critical Legal Theory Overview Critical legal studies (CLS) is a theory which states that the law is necessarily intertwined with social issues, particularly stating that the law has inherent social biases. OUR SPECIAL WASHINGTON DISPATCHES. WASHINGTON, Thursday, Aug. 21. The new Postage stamp bills begin to be paid out from the Treasury to-day, and are already coming freely into circulation. People complain that they are too small, look too much like patent medicine labels, etc., etc., but everybody's glad to get them. According to the belief at the Post-office Department, silver coin ought now to become plentier, since there will be no motive for paying a premium on it, and therefore no premium can be obtained, and there will consequently be no motive for hoarding it. The currency is delivered in...
