The House Jan. 6 committee has received a copy of Alex Jones's phone containing a trove of communications dating back roughly 10 years, according to a new report. Sandy Hook lawyer Mark Bankston has handed a copy of Jones's phone, which he revealed during a fiery courtroom hearing in a defamation case last week that he accidentally received it from Jones's lawyers, to the Jan. 6 committee, a source told CNN. The phone, which Jones's lawyers failed to declare as privileged information, contains a trove of text messages and emails, the report said. "I'm not standing between you and Congress,"...

  • The Inflation Reduction Act Unleashes A Tougher IRS

The Schumer-Manchin tax bill known as the Inflation Reduction Act, which passed the Senate on Sunday, raises taxes and will give the IRS billions to go into what the Wall Street Journal called “beast mode.” In all, the meant-to-be-inflation buster bill will dole out about $80 billion to the IRS for increase enforcement, operational improvements, customer service, and systems modernization. Think big, really big. That $80 billion is more than six times the current annual IRS budget of $12.6 billion. How can the IRS spend all of that? You guessed it, the bill says a whopping $45.6 billion will be...

Wall Street is breathing a quiet sigh of relief over the Senate’s version of the Inflation Reduction Act — but experts warn a last-minute provision to tax stock buybacks could come back to haunt investors. By some measures, the $740 billion energy and health care spending bill has been radically defanged versus an earlier version, which would have cost The Street more than $800 billion, according to estimates. Most notably, the amended version fails to crack down on the so-called “carried-interest loophole,” a giveaway to buyout barons and hedge-fund moguls. A proposal to shrink the loophole — which treats private...

A plurality of Americans believe the level of immigration into the US should be decreased, according to a new Gallup poll — the first time the survey has shown that in eight years. The poll found that 38% of Americans want less immigration, while 27% said they want more. Another 31% said they want immigration to remain at its current level. The last time more Americans wanted immigration reduced was in 2014, when 41% held that opinion, 33% said they wanted present levels maintained, and just 22% said they wanted immigration levels increased.

Philip Perry, who is married to Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney, is a partner at the same law firm representing President Joe Biden’s scandal-ridden son, Hunter. Last week, the Daily Mail reached out to Hunter Biden’s attorney for comment on a story unearthing new details to the extent the younger Biden leveraged the family name for lucrative overseas business ventures. In 2014, the paper reported, then-Vice President Biden met with a pair of Chinese energy executives connected to Hunter Biden’s foreign business deals. An attorney named Christopher Clark, who is listed with the firm Latham & Watkins as partner, responded to...

President Biden seemed unfamiliar Monday with the specifics of the massive spending bill dubbed the Inflation Reduction Act that Senate Democrats passed Sunday, saying it funds healthcare “and God knows what else.” Moments earlier, Biden misstated the size of last year’s $1.2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure law while touring flood damage in the Kentucky hamlet of Lost Creek. “We’ve never done this before, but because of a number of things we got done on a bipartisan basis — like a billion, 200 million-dollar infrastructure project — like what we’re doing today, we passed yesterday, helping take care of everything from health...

This month marks 30 years since Ruby Ridge, one of those events that, as Dan Gelernter explains, the FBI prefers Americans to ignore. That attitude invites a look at those events, as described by the victims of FBI violence.Army veteran Randy Weaver believed the world had become corrupt and dangerous, so he chose to be a survivalist. In 1983, Weaver built a cabin in the remote Ruby Ridge area of northern Idaho and lived there with his wife Vicky, daughters Sara and Elisheba, son Samuel, and family friend Kevin Harris.Weaver held anti-government views but was not a member of the...

TORY: China announced new military drills around Taiwan on Monday, drawing concern from U.S. President Joe Biden, a day after the scheduled end of Beijing's largest military exercises in the area to protest last week's visit to the island by U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Asked if the Pentagon's assessment that China would not try to retake Taiwan militarily in the next two years had changed since Pelosi's trip, Under Secretary of Defense for Policy Colin Kahl said: "No." Pelosi's visit infuriated China, which responded with test launches of ballistic missiles over Taipei for the first time, as well as...

Britain's Post Office, which offers banking services as well as mail, handled a record £801 million ($967 million) in personal cash withdrawals in July. In total, more than £3.3 billion in cash was withdrawn and deposited over the Post Office's counters — the first time the amount has crossed the £3.3 billion threshold in its 360-year history. Personal cash withdrawals were up almost 8% month on month at £744 in June, and up over 20% from a year ago to £665 million in July. Since the identification of theSARS-CoV-2 in Wuhan, China, in January 2020 (1), the origin of the virus has been a topic of intense scientific debate and public speculation. The two main hypotheses are that the virus emerged from human exposure to an infected animal [“zoonosis” (2)] or that it emerged in a research-related incident (3). The investigation into the origin of the virus has been made difficult by the lack of key evidence from the earliest days of the outbreak—there’s no doubt that greater transparency on the part of Chinese authorities would be enormously helpful. Nevertheless, we argue here that...
