Wall Street is breathing a quiet sigh of relief over the Senate’s version of the Inflation Reduction Act — but experts warn a last-minute provision to tax stock buybacks could come back to haunt investors. By some measures, the $740 billion energy and health care spending bill has been radically defanged versus an earlier version, which would have cost The Street more than $800 billion, according to estimates. Most notably, the amended version fails to crack down on the so-called “carried-interest loophole,” a giveaway to buyout barons and hedge-fund moguls. A proposal to shrink the loophole — which treats private...

A plurality of Americans believe the level of immigration into the US should be decreased, according to a new Gallup poll — the first time the survey has shown that in eight years. The poll found that 38% of Americans want less immigration, while 27% said they want more. Another 31% said they want immigration to remain at its current level. The last time more Americans wanted immigration reduced was in 2014, when 41% held that opinion, 33% said they wanted present levels maintained, and just 22% said they wanted immigration levels increased.

Philip Perry, who is married to Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney, is a partner at the same law firm representing President Joe Biden’s scandal-ridden son, Hunter. Last week, the Daily Mail reached out to Hunter Biden’s attorney for comment on a story unearthing new details to the extent the younger Biden leveraged the family name for lucrative overseas business ventures. In 2014, the paper reported, then-Vice President Biden met with a pair of Chinese energy executives connected to Hunter Biden’s foreign business deals. An attorney named Christopher Clark, who is listed with the firm Latham & Watkins as partner, responded to...
  • Biden says ‘inflation’ bill funds healthcare, ‘God knows what else’ in bizarre speech

President Biden seemed unfamiliar Monday with the specifics of the massive spending bill dubbed the Inflation Reduction Act that Senate Democrats passed Sunday, saying it funds healthcare “and God knows what else.” Moments earlier, Biden misstated the size of last year’s $1.2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure law while touring flood damage in the Kentucky hamlet of Lost Creek. “We’ve never done this before, but because of a number of things we got done on a bipartisan basis — like a billion, 200 million-dollar infrastructure project — like what we’re doing today, we passed yesterday, helping take care of everything from health...

This month marks 30 years since Ruby Ridge, one of those events that, as Dan Gelernter explains, the FBI prefers Americans to ignore. That attitude invites a look at those events, as described by the victims of FBI violence.Army veteran Randy Weaver believed the world had become corrupt and dangerous, so he chose to be a survivalist. In 1983, Weaver built a cabin in the remote Ruby Ridge area of northern Idaho and lived there with his wife Vicky, daughters Sara and Elisheba, son Samuel, and family friend Kevin Harris.Weaver held anti-government views but was not a member of the...

TORY: China announced new military drills around Taiwan on Monday, drawing concern from U.S. President Joe Biden, a day after the scheduled end of Beijing's largest military exercises in the area to protest last week's visit to the island by U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Asked if the Pentagon's assessment that China would not try to retake Taiwan militarily in the next two years had changed since Pelosi's trip, Under Secretary of Defense for Policy Colin Kahl said: "No." Pelosi's visit infuriated China, which responded with test launches of ballistic missiles over Taipei for the first time, as well as...

Britain's Post Office, which offers banking services as well as mail, handled a record £801 million ($967 million) in personal cash withdrawals in July. In total, more than £3.3 billion in cash was withdrawn and deposited over the Post Office's counters — the first time the amount has crossed the £3.3 billion threshold in its 360-year history. Personal cash withdrawals were up almost 8% month on month at £744 in June, and up over 20% from a year ago to £665 million in July. • A call for an independent inquiry into the origin of the SARS-CoV-2 virus

Since the identification of theSARS-CoV-2 in Wuhan, China, in January 2020 (1), the origin of the virus has been a topic of intense scientific debate and public speculation. The two main hypotheses are that the virus emerged from human exposure to an infected animal [“zoonosis” (2)] or that it emerged in a research-related incident (3). The investigation into the origin of the virus has been made difficult by the lack of key evidence from the earliest days of the outbreak—there’s no doubt that greater transparency on the part of Chinese authorities would be enormously helpful. Nevertheless, we argue here that...

Joe Kent, candidate for Washington’s 3rd Congressional district, has had his own ballot rejected by the state, The National Pulse can exclusively reveal. Kent told The National Pulse that he had to go into the offices of the election administrators on Monday, August 8th, in order to verify his own signature – a process that many older voters may be unable to attend to so easily – so that his vote would count. “It’s a mess of a system,” Kent told The National Pulse. The primary election in WA-3 is curious enough by itself, using a non-partisan, top-two system, “in...

A measure that would allow San Bernardino County supervisors to explore secession from the state of California could be put to county voters in November. The Board of Supervisors approved the ballot measure at a meeting Wednesday night after the issue had been raised at several board meetings. Wednesday's vote was the first step in adding the measure to the ballot, to be followed by a second and final reading and vote scheduled for next week. “Do the citizens of San Bernardino County want the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors to study all options to obtain its fair share...

  • Democrats Reject Amendment Confirming Only Women Get Pregnant

Over the weekend, Senate Democrats rejected an amendment to a bill that confirms only women get pregnant and that three is no such thing as “pregnant people.” Senator Marco Rubio proposed the amendment to ensure that funding for federal pregnancy programs goes only to biological females. But Democrats, who care more about their leftist ideology than women, rejected the amendment to protect funding for women’s health care. Rubio’s amendment failed on a 51-50 vote — with every Republican voting for it and pro-abortion Cackling Kamala Harris breaking the tie by siding with every Democrat.

A homosexual “married” couple in Georgia has been arrested in connection with allegations that they used two young boys they had adopted to produce child pornography. The two men, William Zulock and Zachary Zulock, aged 32 and 35, adopted the two young brothers in 2018, following their 2016 “marriage.” According to the Walton County Sheriff’s Office, the men were arrested for “engaging in sexually abusive acts and video documenting the abuse” of the boys who had been entrusted to their care. Although the ages of the adopted brothers have not been released, a May 2019 Instagram post by William Zulock...

WASHINGTON (AP) — Shoes off, an almost-empty container of leftovers, an unfinished glass of wine -- this was the exhausted portrait of one of the most powerful Democrats in Washington after Senate passage of President Joe Biden’s sweeping health, climate and economic package. New York’s Chuck Schumer effectively moved from minority to majority leader of the U.S. Senate on the morning of the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol insurrection, and he has helmed the chamber through a tumultuous, messy and yet surprisingly productive run with the longest evenly split 50-50 Senate in the nation’s history. Methodical he is not, as the...

As many as 80,000 Russian troops have been wounded or killed in less than six months of fighting in Ukraine, the Pentagon said Monday, the first time the U.S. military announced its estimates of the toll of the invasion on Russia. According to U.S. estimates, Russia has suffered 70,000 to 80,000 casualties, Colin Kahl, the undersecretary of defense for policy, told reporters at a press briefing Monday. In the days leading up to Russia’s Feb. 24 invasion, Western officials estimated that Russia had staged roughly 150,000 troops near Ukraine’s border.

Former President Donald Trump ripped Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), stating Democrats bamboozled him on the $700 billion Inflation Reduction Act. “Mitch McConnell got played like a fiddle with the vote today by the Senate Democrats,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post on Sunday evening. “First he gave them the fake Infrastructure Bill, then Guns, never used the Debt Ceiling for negotiating purposes (gave it away for NOTHING!), and now this.” Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Senate Democrats outmaneuvered McConnell on the Inflation Reduction Act reconciliation bill after the passage of the $280 billion Creating Helpful Incentives...
