In yet another report that illustrates the dangers pot poses to the young, developing brain, a new British study finds teenagers are much more likely than adults to develop an addiction to marijuana. "We found that teenagers are three and a half times more likely to have severe cannabis use disorder, which is essentially cannabis addiction," said lead researcher Will Lawn, a lecturer in addiction psychology with King's College London. "That's a very important harm which teenagers should be informed of." However, marijuana use did not appear to cause any other harms to the teenage brain, his team found. "Teenagers...

The Biden administration on Monday told hospitals that they "must" provide abortion services if the life of the mother is at risk, saying federal law on emergency treatment guidelines preempts state laws in jurisdictions that now ban the procedure without any exceptions following the Supreme Court's decision to end a constitutional right to abortion. The Department of Health and Human Services cited requirements on medical facilities in the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act... ...department said emergency conditions include "ectopic pregnancy, complications of pregnancy loss, or emergent hypertensive disorders, such as preeclampsia with severe features." ...The department says its guidance...

The sham House January 6 Committee changed its anticipated schedule of “high-impact hearings” amid a series of maneuvers by potential witnesses and Steve Bannon’s indication he is willing to testify on his own terms. According to The Daily Mail the panel had planned to hold a Thursday hearing in prime time that would be its second televised evening event. But that all changed when Steve Bannon announced over the weekend that he would testify live and in person before the committee. The sham committee of Never Trump politicians have no interest in reporting the truth. And they know they can’t...

A visitor to a southern California beach captured video of beach-goers fleeing in a panic two sea lions appear to aggressively charge after them -- but one expert said the animals may not have been concerned with the humans at all. Charlianne Yeyna, who posted the now-viral video to TikTok, said the chase began when a woman attempted to take a photo of a sleeping sea lion at La Jolla Cove in San Diego. "The sea lions were sleeping and were just massive on the beach and I was just watching them and this woman got really close to them,...

Explanation: What is the oldest thing you can see? At 2.5 million light years distant, the answer for the unaided eye is the Andromeda galaxy, because its photons are 2.5 million years old when they reach you. Most other apparent denizens of the night sky -- stars, clusters, and nebulae -- appear as they were only a few hundred to a few thousand years ago, as they lie well within our own Milky Way Galaxy. Given its distance, light from Andromeda is likely also the farthest object that you can see. Also known as M31, the Andromeda Galaxy dominates the...

The war in Ukraine has exacerbated the issue, but American stockpiles were already down.Between COVID, war, bird flu, climate change, and maybe plain bad luck, everyone's become accustomed to shortages: In 2022 alone, we've covered supply issues with coffee cups, fertilizer, sunflower oil, Subway meats, popcorn, and, yes, even Huy Fong Sriracha. So what's next on the chopping block? Apparently, chickpea stockpiles are down significantly enough that America may need to be concerned with an increase in the price of hummus. Last week, Reuters reported that global chickpea supplies may drop as much as 20 percent this year, according...

Salt & Straw’s $65 edible perfume for ice cream is fun, but not worth it. Following in the footsteps of Van Leeuwen’s extremely viral Kraft Macaroni & Cheese ice cream, other brands are getting in on headline-grabbing, extremely bonkers flavors. There’s a Nathan’s Famous hot dog ice cream, which is laced with caramelized bits of the famous meat (yum?) that shatter like crispy bacon between your molars. And I will never understand why French’s turned its respectable tomato ketchup into an abominable popsicle. I know that none of these batty products are really meant to become household staples. Still, when...

Call them orange wines, or skin-contact whites, either way it’s a world you need to know.OK, first things first: There are no oranges in orange wine. And no tangerines, tangelos, mandarins, clementines, ponkans, blood oranges, Buddha's hands, or sumo citruses (citrii?) either. Not a one. Orange wine instead is the popular way of referring to what's more technically, albeit clumsily, called "skin-contact white wine." When it comes to most wine grapes, the flesh of the grape isn't pigmented; cut a Cabernet grape open next to a Chardonnay grape, and the insides of both look more or less the same (pale...

Republican lawmakers privately support to Rep. Liz Cheney but refuse to do so in public for fear of former President Donald Trump, according to extracts from a new book. The claim appeared in "Thank You For Your Servitude," by Mark Leibovich, a political writer who speak years at The New York Times Magazine and now writes for The Atlantic. The book is devoted to exploring Trump's circle, and alleges that many people who support him in public are hypocrites who privately dislike him. One Republican member of Congress to vocally oppose Trump is Cheney, who was stripped of a party...

Newly obtained emails confirm that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) changed its definition for both “vaccine” and “vaccinated” because people were pointing out that definitions did not seem to apply to the COVID-19 vaccines. “The definition of vaccine we have posted is problematic and people are using it to claim the COVID-19 vaccine is not a vaccine based on our own definition,” Alycia Downs, a CDC official, wrote in an email on Aug. 25, 2021, to a colleague. The definition is located on a page called Immunization Basics. “Vaccine” was defined since at least 2011 by the...

The way Cherylene Stritenberg says she sees it, the issue comes down to cost. A board member with the Eagle Point School District near Medford, Stritenberg is also a mom. She wants more money for school supplies and books, she said. And she’s concerned that a state law that goes into full effect in the 2022-23 school year to require public K-12 schools, community colleges and universities to provide free menstrual products in all bathrooms, including bathrooms designated for boys, is an added expense in a state that already fights to graduate much more than 80 percent of its high...

VIDEODOCTOR Jill Biden took a quick trip to San Antonio, Texas in order to perform a deep pander for the "Latinx" community. Yes, that is what the official name of the event was, "Latinx IncluXion Luncheon." I guess they felt it was okay to butcher the Spanish language with "LatinX" if they also mangled the English language with "IncluXion." Perhaps we should be thankful that DOCTOR Jill did not attempt to pronounce "LatinX." As you can see this is not the first time that DOCTOR Jill attempted to speak cringe Spanish.

Credit: Unsplash/CC0 Public Domain The latest study to examine how tiny amounts of psychedelics can impact mental health provides further evidence of the therapeutic potential of microdosing. Published in Scientific Reports this week, the study followed 953 people taking regular small amounts of psilocybin and a second group of 180 people who were not microdosing. This research, led by University of British Columbia Okanagan's Dr. Zach Walsh and doctoral student Joseph Rootman, is the latest study to come from the Microdose.me project. For the 30-day study, participants were asked to complete a number of assessments that tapped into mental health...

Although the vloggers often claim to be helping out in Africa, experts say their work essentially monetises racial inequality. “[Chinese] tend to think of themselves as targets of racism. They do not think about themselves as doers of racism, that they are also practising racism [against] other people. But they are,” said Sheng Zou, a researcher at the University of Michigan who specialises in Chinese digital media. “If you look at the representations in those videos, they are trying to establish the kind of contrast between them as modern subjects and Africans as somewhat inferior, somewhat premodern subjects that are...
