A team of chefs at a festival in Mexico cooked up a 629.4-pound hamburger said to be the largest in the country's history. The chefs at the 2nd annual International Hamburger Festival in Mazatlan worked together during the event to cook the massive burger in about 10 minutes. ADVERTISEMENT Organizers said the burger would be cut into portions and provided to local food charities. The burger was nearly double the size of a 343.9-pound hamburger created at last year's festival. Organizers said this year's burger set a national record for Mexico, and they are making plans for next year's festival...

"There's still barbecue stains that kinda look like blood." 😳It's not every day that you find an abandoned vintage Burger King hiding in not-so-plain sight. But that's exactly what happened to a group of people who made a peculiar discovery at the Concord Mall in Wilmington, Delaware. On June 28, Twitter user @RealJezebelley shared a photo of the retro space, which looks like it could have easily doubled as a restaurant set for your favorite '80s or '90s sitcom. The photo was taken in April of this year by Jonathon Pruitt and shows lots of pastel tabletops, retro decor, and...

YOU ARE NOT SUPERMAN There are times when some events of life overwhelm us. Things at home or things at work can drain us. Sometimes we sense an urge to be "Superman" or even "God". We want to "fix" things or "make everything better." In reality, this feeling can be the source of great stress and tension. We sometimes have to admit that certain things can't be fixed; certain things will not go away. Got a problem, talk about it. It may not get "fixed" or go away, but you will feel better! A Taliban-run gathering of thousands of male religious and ethnic leaders ended on Saturday (Jul 2) by asking foreign governments to formally recognise their administration, but made no signals of changes on international demands such as the opening of girls' high schools. The Afghan economy has plunged into crisis as Western governments have withdrawn funding and strictly enforced sanctions, saying the Taliban government needs to change course on human rights, especially those of women. "We ask regional and international countries, especially Islamic countries … to recognise the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan ... release all sanctions, unfreeze (central bank) funds and...

When their ammunition had almost run out, Chamberlain decided to fix bayonets and charge down into the two Alabama regiments..... . Chamberlain — whose right foot had been pieced by a shell fragment or a stone chip — then limped along the regimental line giving instructions to align the left side of the regiment with the right. After Chamberlain returned to the regimental center, Melcher asked permission to retrieve his wounded from the front. Chamberlain replied, Yes, I am about to order a right wheel forward of the whole regiment. (Chamberlain himself claimed later to have said, yes, sir, in...

(WKYT) - On the last day of Pride Month, a Lexington church is apologizing to the LGBTQ+ community.Leaders at St. Paul Catholic Church said they want to make amends for the church’s discrimination and lack of compassion.“I felt betrayed by an institution. On top of a worsening drought and rising temperatures, farmers across the Western third of the United States are battling outbreaks of cannibalistic insects that are ravaging crops from Nevada to Montana. Officials have spent millions of dollars over the past few years trying to control the explosive swarms of Mormon crickets that are responsible for destroying swatches of crops from Nevada to Montana. Native to North America, Mormon crickets got their name in the 1800s when these giant insects ruined the fields of Mormon settlers. These insects are not true crickets; they are actually shield-backed, short-winged katydids that resemble...

It is the age-old problem. Balancing buns. Whether you are doing the math of 8 hot dogs in a package and 12 buns in a bag, or half your guests are eating their burgers "keto-style" on slabs of lettuce, it seems inevitable that you will wake up the morning after any backyard barbecue with a lot more leftover buns than you have leftover meat to put in them. And we all know that despite the logic, thinking of them as bread for sandwiches tends to not go over terribly well with kids. Related—The Best New Idea for a Summer Party...

80s' pop star Tiffany didn't want to record 'I Think We’re Alone Now' because she didn't want to head in a dance direction. The 50-year-old singer - whose full name is Tiffany Darwish - has admitted she was against the idea of releasing a cover of the James and the Shondells' song that would become a global hit for her in 1987 because she was set on becoming the next Stevie Nicks. However, it grew on her and she is "forever grateful" for the success it brought her. She told the July 2022 issue of Retro Pop magazine: “I didn't...

Among the world’s present-day religions, Zoroastrianism, founded more than 3,000 years ago, is one of the most ancient and historically influential. Yet even though its adherents maintain vibrant communities on four continents, they acknowledge their numbers are dauntingly small — perhaps 125,000 worldwide. Starting Friday, about 1,200 attendees from 16 countries will be assessing their faith’s prospects during the four-day World Zoroastrian Congress in New York City, the first one held in the United States since 2000. The agenda reflects a keen awareness of the challenges facing their religion. Prospects for growth are limited, given that Zoroastrians don’t seek to...

New York, NY – The mass exodus plaguing the New York Police Department (NYPD) may be having the biggest impact on its investigations with more than 100 seasoned detectives filing their retirement paperwork in June. Statistics showed that 250 NYPD detectives have retired so far this year and sources told the New York Post that another 75 veteran investigators were planning to retire in July. Before the June retirements began, the police force had 5,600 detectives. That’s almost 2,000 fewer detectives than NYPD had on the department less than 20 years ago, the New York Post reported. The detectives’ union...

In the Readings for this Sunday, Jesus continues his final journey, his fateful "death march" toward Jerusalem (Luke 9–19, the "Travel Narrative") that began formally in Luke 9:51. The past several Sundays have foreshadowed Jesus' coming suffering and death, but this Sunday we get a reprieve as themes of suffering recede into the background. We are temporarily caught up in the joy of Jesus' ministry, as he assembles around himself a congregation of disciples who constitute a spiritual "Jerusalem." In the healing ministry of Jesus and his disciples, we see a fulfillment of certain prophecies of peace and restoration to...

A previously sunken World War II-era landing craft that once was 185 feet below the surface of Lake Mead, is being exposed as waters keep shrinking. The Higgins landing craft is nearly two-thirds exposed. It is beached less than a mile from Lake Mead Marina and Hemenway Harbor. The boat was used to survey the Colorado River decades ago, then was sold to a marina and eventually used as an anchor for a breakwater in the sediment, according to D.J. Jenner of Las Vegas Scuba, which conducts various tour dives on the lake, previously including the sunken boat. National Park...

Patriot Front, the White Supremacist group that loves to get attention with their odd choice of clothing and face coverings, is back in action. And as usual, conservatives on Twitter are calling them out as feds. The reality is this: They really are a white supremacist group. There really are feds among them, as there are among just about every political group in America. Intelligent Life Really Can’t Exist Anywhere Else Hell, our own evolution on Earth was pure luck. In research published in 2020 from Oxford University's Future of Humanity Institute, scientists study the likelihood of key times for evolution of life on Earth and conclude that it would be virtually impossible for that life to evolve the same way somewhere else. Life has come a very long way in a very short time on Earth, relatively speaking—and scientists say that represents even more improbable luck for intelligent life that is rare to begin with. For decades, scientists and even philosophers have chased...

Monkeypox may be spreading across dozens of nations, but doesn’t qualify as a global health emergency yet, the World Health Organization said Saturday. However, WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said monkeypox was evolving rapidly and advised governments around the world to increase their surveillance, contact tracing and testing, CNBC reported. He also urged world leaders to ensure that people at high risk have access to vaccines and antiviral treatments. The WHO has said mass vaccination is not recommended at this time to stop monkeypox. The US is offering vaccines to people who are at high risk of exposure to...

The Palestinian Authority (PA) on Saturday evening agreed to a forensic investigation by the US of the bullet that they claim killed Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Aqleh, Kan News reported, quoting a statement by the Palestinian Authority's general prosecutor to Al Jazeera. "We will not give the bullet that killed Shireen Abu Aqleh to Israel at all," the prosecutor added. "Due to our belief that the occupying forces fired the bullet, we have agreed that the Americans examine it. We received several guarantees from the American coordinators that the bullet will not be passed to Israel." At the same...

A 71-year old Iowa City, Iowa, man was fined $855 for shooting and injuring a U.S. Marine with an air rifle in October 2021. In April, Philip Olson, who claimed he was hunting a squirrel, pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor crime after turning himself in to the police, violating a local ordinance prohibiting the discharge of toy guns and slingshots, according to the Iowa City Press-Citizen. He accidentally shot 20-year-old Lance Cpl. Gabe Heefner in the head while the Marine was driving by, leaving the Marine severely injured.
