Sri Lanka’s federal government on Monday approved a proposal that would shorten the work week of most public sector staff to four days so that workers will have time to farm their own crops, Reuters reported Tuesday, noting the measure aims to combat Sri Lanka’s worsening food shortages caused by a recent economic crisis. “Sri Lanka’s Cabinet late on Monday approved a proposal for public sector workers to be given leave every Friday for the next three months, partly because the fuel shortage made commuting difficult and also to encourage them to farm,” Reuters reported on June 14. “It seems...

“They may take away our lives, but they’ll never take our freedom!” – A fake quote from the movie BraveheartOf course, the fake William Wallace (as played by Mel Gibson) turned out to be incorrect. The Scots were at war with their neighbors on and off ever since Scotland emerged as an independent kingdom up until 1707 when it became part of the United Kingdom. But is that going to change in the near future? Rather than having a wildman on a horse with blue paint on his face riding in to lead his people to independence, we have Scottish...

How despairing you feel about these results depends on how charitable you want to be to Republican voters. But the fact that insurrectionist Doug Mastriano is closer to becoming governor than milquetoast centrist Mehmet Oz is to becoming senator should not fill you with warm and fuzzy feelings about the state of the GOP.The charitable explanation for Oz trailing John Fetterman by nine points while Mastriano trails Josh Shapiro by just four is that Fetterman is an unusually strong candidate and Oz an unusually weak one. The 46/37 margin between them doesn’t mean Republican voters prefer election truthers like Mastriano to...

“‘Do not judge so that you will not be judged’” (Matthew 7:1). One of the central messages of Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount to His followers is for them to be discerning and perceptive in what they believe and what they do. All Christians need to make every effort to judge between truth and falsehood, between the internal and the external, between reality and sham, and between true righteousness and false righteousness. Every message we hear is to be judged for the soundness of its doctrine. Paul told the Galatians, “But even if we, or an angel from heaven, should...

Democrats have spent decades warning that the United States must stop using the most efficient and affordable energy sources or it will be consumed by heat waves, fireballs, and cataclysmic weather events. Every flood, every hurricane—every natural event, really—is now blamed on climate change. We have burdened our children with an irrational dread over their future. Then again, many in The Cult of Malthus won’t even have children. So, why, if we’re on the precipice of this apocalypse, if saving the planet trumps every other concern, is Joe Biden begging everyone to drill? On the days Democrats aren’t blaming Putin...

The new University of Austin (UATX), in Texas, will open this summer. It will be a radically different kind of university, neither right-wing nor left-wing. Rather, it will be on the wing that focuses on advancing truth. What in the world does that mean, and what is truth? I can make this clear by quoting a passage from John Stuart Mill's On Liberty. Note that this passage is neither right- nor left-wing, but about truth:If an opinion is compelled to silence, that opinion may, for aught we can certainly know, be true. To deny this is to assume our own...

The QAnon-obsessed father brainwashed by conspiracy theories who allegedly killed his children with a spearfishing gun because he believed they had serpent DNA admitted in a handwritten letter that he was 'delusional.' In the two-page letter viewed by PEOPLE, Matthew Taylor Coleman had written to a friend about what has been going through his mind in the 10 months since he was locked up for the murder of his two children in August 2021.
