The DA’s office apparently did not record the specific county jail sentences for many cases in its data dashboard. For the convictions where the DA provided specific county jail sentencing information, roughly half of the sentences agreed to were eight days or less, and some were as low as one or two days. The DA’s data, along with court records and information from DataSF, tell a chilling tale of gang members, drug dealers, and multiple violent repeat offenders sometimes serving just a short time in county jail, released on probation, or sent to diversion programs.

Eldar Gadzhiev’s heart sank when he heard the sputtering from the engine of his Skoda one day in April. Gadzhiev, who owns a fleet of four cars that he leases as taxicabs in Moscow, knew it was a terrible and expensive time for a breakdown. Prices for spare parts, if you even could find them, had spiralled out of control since Vladimir Putin ordered the invasion of Ukraine two months earlier. “I understood that I was in a bad situation,” he said. “I thought: the repairs are going to cost as much as the car.” Dealerships were useless, he said....

Tankers and cargo ships are currently jammed in front of the European ports of Rotterdam and Antwerp, as Statista’s Martin Armstrong shows in the infographic below, based on a snapshot from FleetMon, an online tracking portal for ships. Further north off the mouth of the Elbe, a number of cargo ships are also moored and waiting to be allowed to enter the port. This map illustrates how the global economy is once again suffering from delays in container shipping. You will find more infographics at StatistaAccording to the “Kiel Trade Indicator” compiled by the Kiel Institute for the World Economy...

Up, up and away in our inflationary balloon! Regular gasoline prices have breached the $5 a gallon barrier, the highest in recorded history. And it is even worse in states like California where regular gas prices have been above $7 per gallon. Bankrate’s 30-year mortgage rate is now 5.78%, the highest since 2008. And rising really fast as The Fed tightens the monetary noose. Speaking of noose tightening, the 2-year US Treasury Note yield is rising awfully fast. The US Treasury 10Y-2Y curve slope just flattened to 8.819 bps and challenging the 0% grade awfully fast. The US Dollar is...

There are 10,000 reasons why Nancy Pelosi is singularly negligent in the U.S. Capitol’s comprehensive security failures on January 6th. Instead of addressing her willful negligence, she is pointing her finger at the person whose help she ignored, President Donald Trump. The predictable hallmark of a left-wing coverup is to somehow find a way to scapegoat the 45th president of the United States, Donald Trump, for their own abysmal missteps and errors. The Democrats’ twisted creativity in pursuing this anomaly is truly something to behold. The mainstream media fallout from January 6th was a godsend to Democrats who found themselves...

Video – Rachel Maddow: “Just a key point, that yes, there was a pro-Trump rally at which the president spoke. And we can absolutely talk about all the things the president said there. But the idea that that rally is the thing that got out of hand and that somehow resulted in the breaching of the capitol – that rally was very far from the Capitol and the people who, as you say, did the initial breach, that allowed everybody else to come in, they never even went to that rally.”Rachel Maddow said:“Just a key point, that yes, there was...

Internet users are discussing the Ramsay Hunt Syndrome ever since Justin Bieber shared the video showing his partial facial paralysis. A study has now come out explaining a possible link between the syndrome and the COVID-19 vaccine. In an embarrassing moment for the NFL, the Washington Commanders announced today that they are fining Defensive Coordinator Jack Del Rio $100,000 for comparing the events of January 6th to violence that erupted after the death of George Floyd in May 2020.The announcement was immediately applauded by NFL reporters desperate to be the first to publicly proclaim their allegiance to the “correct” set of opinions:Rapaport displays a key function of modern activism disguised as reporting – instead of expressing skepticism or scrutiny, sports writers approach each topic with the underlying assumption their opinions inarguably constitute the only acceptable set of...

In painstaking detail, and with brutal new footage of the attack at the U.S. Capitol, the House Jan. 6 committee began to lay out its case Thursday that the insurrection was planned — and that it was only the most conspicuous component of a sprawling and illegal offensive by then-President Donald Trump to remain in power. "President Trump summoned the mob, assembled the mob and lit the flame of the attack," Liz Cheney, the Republican vice chair of the panel, said during its first public hearing. The committee's work is most clearly aimed at the Department of Justice who will...

Overstocking at Target, Walmart, Amazon, and other big retailers are the latest unexpected red flag for what’s happening in the economy. It’s an about-face from the beginning of 2022, when things were economically pretty peachy. Too peachy, one could argue: People were buying so much stuff that our ports and terminals could barely handle the massive import volume. Companies were desperate for someone, anyone, to come work for them. And movie theaters, offices, planes and other locales many eschewed during the pandemic were poised to bounce back; ... The vibes were good. Now, the vibes are completely terrible. More and...

In November of 1993, Daniel Doubek was convicted of disorderly conduct in Door County, Wisconsin. There are no existing records of the case, according to the initial brief, other than he was convicted. It has been reported Doubek was issued a Wisconsin Concealed Carry permit in 2016. In 2019, Wisconsin revoked the permit, claiming Doubek was ineligible because of the 1993 disorderly conduct conviction, which the Wisconsin DOJ claimed met the federal standard for a domestic violence conviction. The Wausau Pilot contends there are court records claiming Doubek broke into his estranged wife’s trailer in 1993, waiving a board and shouting...

The Biden administration is planning to push a policy that would require tobacco companies to reduce the level of nicotine in cigarettes sold in the U.S. The policy would see the amount of nicotine reduced to 'nonaddictive levels'. Although it would likely not come into force for several years, the move would likely disrupt the entire tobacco industry. The Food and Drug Administration first needs to outline the proposed new rules before inviting comments from the public. Then final rules would be published. Even then, tobacco companies would be able to sue likely delaying any implementation of the policy reports...
