Trained sniffer dogs can accurately identify airport passengers infected with coronavirus, new research suggests. Scientists say this method of detection is likely to be especially valuable, not only in the early stages of a pandemic when other resources might not yet be available, but also to help contain an ongoing pandemic. They add that their findings highlight the importance of continuous retraining as new Covid-19 variants emerge. Our preliminary observations suggest that dogs primed with one virus type can in a few hours be retrained to detect its variants

Scientists have momentarily restored a faint twinkle of life to dying cells in the human eye. In order to better understand the way nerve cells succumb to a lack of oxygen, a team of US researchers measured activity in mouse and human retinal cells soon after their death. Amazingly, with a few tweaks to the tissue's environment, they were able to revive the cells' ability to communicate hours later. When stimulated by light, the postmortem retinas were shown to emit specific electrical signals, known as b-waves. These waves are also seen in living retinas, and they indicate communication between all...

FIFTH WEEK OF EASTER JOHN 14:27-31A Friends, in today’s Gospel, Jesus promises his Second Coming. In one sense, Christianity is a religion of fulfillment (the Lord has come), but in another sense, it is a religion of waiting, for we expect the Second Coming of Jesus in the fullness of his power. We wait and watch and keep vigil. What we all know is that great things take time. When a kid comes to an artist’s studio to apprentice, he has to submit to a long and difficult discipline; when a young man enters a monastery or a seminary, he...

When I filed my taxes (TurboTax), there was a page which - as with last year - asked a question as to whether I got my 'stimulus' check. I do not recall that there was any other option (yes or no). I did not get a stimulus during the virus. Last year it automatically credited my taxes. No notice from IRS. This year it did the same (automatically credited my taxes on my answer to the question). Recently I got a notice of tax due, reversing the credit. Now I owe >$1400.00, plus interest & penalties.

CNN wants you to believe that the Democrats are a political party . . . above politics. That in fashioning their policies, the thought that massive, record-breaking flows of immigrants across the southern border might help them politically never crosses the Democrats' minds! And if you disagree? If you think that, in fact, Democrats view those immigrants as, in the phrase that Mark Steyn made famous, "undocumented Democrats," well then, you are a racist, spewing a "garbage" conspiracy theory. Get the rest of the story and view the video here.

Biden COVID response coordinator Ashish Jha says he has "two major worries about a possible uptick in covid that could infect over 100 million Americans by Fall. The increasingly infectious variants mean more people will catch the disease. On the other hand, the diminishment of symptoms means that hardly anyone will realize they are infected." "People who don't realize they are infected won't feel an urgency to get tested or vaccinated," he predicted. "The whole pandemic infrastructure will be underutilized. People will be going about their business as if life is normal. Their willingness to obey directives to wear masks,...

Exercise increases levels of a chemical involved in brain cell growth, which bolsters the release of the "feel good" hormone dopamine, a new study shows. Dopamine is known to play a key role in movement, motivation, and learning. Experts have long understood that regular running raises dopamine activity in the brain and may protect nerve cells from damage. In addition, past research has tied exercise-driven boosts in the dopamine-triggering chemical called brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and in dopamine levels to improvements in learning and memory. Researchers showed that mice running on a wheel for 30 days had a 40% increase...

If a woman who is three, six, or nine months pregnant is shot and survives, but the baby dies, did the shooter make a reproductive choice, or is it the murder of a human? Does the mother who was carrying the baby believe it was murder of her baby, or does she believe that it was just a reproductive choice? Will the mother be soothed by people who tell her that killing the child was good for the economy and lowered inflation? After all, it saved her money and didn't change her lifestyle. It also supposedly helped save the climate....
