Within seconds of posting his tweet, Peterson - a clinical psychologist, author, and former professor at the University of Toronto - was met with a flurry of criticism from other users, many of whom began taking aim at his own appearance, while others labeled him an ‘a**’ and a ‘freak’.

‘My guy you look like a child’s skeleton covered in mayonnaise with dryer lint on the top. You’re in no position to be assessing anybody’s beauty you rickety junkie,’ one person fired back at Peterson, who is the author of the international bestselling book 12 Rules For Life: An Antidote to Chaos.

Others flipped the script by copying the words from the psychologist’s tweet and re-posting them with a picture of him.

Nu, 36, a Japanese and Dutch recording artist, became the first-ever Asian plus-size model to be featured in SI Swim as a rookie last year

Initially, Peterson stuck to his guns, firing back at ‘panderers’, and insisting that the decision to feature a plus-size woman on the cover of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit was ‘a conscious and cynical manipulation by the oh-so virtuous politically correct’.

In another tweet he added: ‘It’s a conscious progressive attempt to manipulate and retool the notion of beauty, reliant on the idiot philosophy that such preferences are learned and properly changed by those who know better.’

However, after he continued to be bombarded with what he described as a ‘vicious flood of insults’, Peterson called it quits, announcing that he was ‘departing’ Twitter, while branding the social media platform ‘intrinsically and dangerously insane’.

‘The endless flood of vicious insult is really not something that can be experienced anywhere else,’ he wrote. ‘I like to follow the people I know but I think the incentive structure of the platform makes it intrinsically and dangerously insane.’

He continued: ‘So I told my staff to change my password, to keep me from temptation, and am departing once again.

I agree with Jordan Peterson, but its probably not a good choice for a battle to get involved in.

He's not wrong. She is obese (by definition), and she isn't particularly pretty. Yes, "pretty" is subjective, but most people would agree that she is not. Furthermore, numerous studies have confirmed that female proportions/features that are considered attractive are consistent across cultures and nations, and her proportions ain't it.

And for what it's worth, the proportions/features of men that are considered attractive are consistent as well. What are they? $$$, and more $$$.

The Purpose Of Political Correctness Is To Humiliate
by R. SCOTT CLARK on February 21, 2015 |

Political correctness is communist propaganda writ small. In my study of communist societies, I came to the conclusion that the purpose of communist propaganda was not to persuade or convince, nor to inform, but to humiliate; and therefore, the less it corresponded to reality the better. When people are forced to remain silent when they are being told the most obvious lies, or even worse when they are forced to repeat the lies themselves, they lose once and for all their sense of probity. To assent to obvious lies is to co-operate with evil, and in some small way to become evil oneself. One’s standing to resist anything is thus eroded, and even destroyed. A society of emasculated liars is easy to control. I think if you examine political correctness, it has the same effect and is intended to.

I’ve seen some big pretty females but that SI swimsuit gal is not one of them.

Remember, on social media no one has an obligation to like what you say or agree with you. When you post anything, most likely you’ll get disagreement from 50% of your readers.

Yumi Nu has a very strong incentive not to shape up and slim down. She has fame and money due to being hefty aka plus sized. She will be just an average unknown model if/when she loses 60-70lbs.

So she and her acolytes can clown around today, but she has health problems coming up with 10 years. Plump and pretty is OK, but Yumi has cellulite developing at the young age of 25.

Yumi is probably a goddess in Hawaii and Samoa, and for sumo wrestlers worldwide.

It’s just that there’s nothing attractive about that photo. That swimsuit looks terrible on her! She might look attractive with something better suited to her shape and size.

"I agree with Jordan Peterson, but its probably not a good choice for a battle to get involved in."

I am a Peterson fan and frequently reference him in conversation, but I agree - probably not a hill to die on. His message here is correct. Featuring this model on the SI cover is a concerted effort to force "tolerance," and, "diversity," regardless of whether or not one finds her attractive or not.

That said standards of beauty vary from person to person, culture to culture and age to age. It's why we currently have the gentle euphemism, "Rubenesque."

In past eras when things weren't as bountiful as we have them, robust women were viewed as more fertile and desireable.

Quite honestly, when I saw the Japanese model and theSI cover photo, my first thought was the Venus of Willendorf.

I think she has a pretty face. Beyond that, she could never look good in that suit, it’s ugly and would not flatter any figure.
