The culture war over Disney reached new heights Thursday, as Democratic Colorado Gov. Jared Polis and Florida Gov. Ron De Santis traded barbs over the company's future in the Sunshine State. Earlier this week, Polis voiced disagreement over DeSantis' support for legislation that would strip Disney of its special status as a self-governing area, which was ultimately passed Thursday by the Florida House. Polis then accused DeSantis of using socialist tactics to control the private sector, and invited Disney to ditch the Sunshine State and move to Colorado. 'Florida's authoritarian socialist attacks on the private sector are driving businesses away,'...

Video footage appearing to show Sun whipping two Rwandan men as they were tied to a tree circulated online last August. Rwandan authorities subsequently investigated the video’s content and confirmed that the incident took place in Rwanda’s Western Province at a Chinese-managed mine. The Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) arrested Sun and two other employees of the mine accused of participating in the torture, an engineer named Alexis Renzaho and a security guard Leonidas Nsanzimana, sometime last year before prosecuting them for their crimes. Rwanda’s Gihango Primary Court remanded the three men in September 2021. The group then appealed to the...

A small business owner has come under fire for the furious note he left on his shop window asking specifically for 'baby boomer' employees. 'I apologise for us closing again,' the note read. The post has thousands of likes and comments, with many engaging in a heated debate regarding the legitimacy of the owner's frustration. 'That's a pretty awful and ageist sign,' said one commenter. A federal judge on Thursday temporarily blocked a Kentucky law that effectively eliminated abortions in the commonwealth, where the only two clinics said they couldn't meet its requirements. The decision by U.S. District Judge Rebecca Grady Jennings was a victory for abortion rights advocates and a setback for the Republican-led legislature, which passed the law in March. Governor Andy Beshear, a Democrat, had vetoed the measure, but the legislature overrode him last week to ban abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy and require women to be examined by a doctor before receiving abortion pills. Both of Kentucky's clinics said that...

The business community’s response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine is a dramatic example of stakeholder capitalism in action. Their decisive withdrawal from Russia isn’t just a response to price signals or market pressures. It’s the institutional expression of moral outrage. It’s also a recognition that every company is a community of people–and that to thrive the company must reflect in its actions the values of the people who create and sustain it. The SEC’s recent proposals on disclosure regarding cybersecurity and environmental risks are also powerful indicators that the push for business to integrate stakeholder values on environmental, social,...

New police bodycam footage has been released of the moment three Syracuse police officers apprehended an eight-year-old black boy and force him into the back of a police car.
