Combining a retrospective analysis of clinical records with in-depth laboratory studies, researchers have discovered that vitamin E can enhance immunotherapy responses by stimulating the activity of dendritic cells in the tumor. The researchers demonstrated that vitamin E directly binds and blocks the activity of the SHP1 checkpoint protein in dendritic cells, which increases antigen presentation and primes T cells for an anti-tumor immune response. Dietary supplements are thought to boost immunity, but little is known about the effects of supplements on immunotherapy activity. Patients with melanoma who took vitamin E while on anti-PD-1/PD-L1 checkpoint inhibitors had significantly improved survival compared...

Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord John 20:1-9 Friends, our Easter Gospel contains St. John’s magnificent account of the Resurrection. It was, says John, early in the morning on the first day of the week. It was still dark—just the way it was at the beginning of time before God said, "Let there be light." But a light was about to shine, and a new creation was about to appear. The stone had been rolled away. That stone, blocking entrance to the tomb of Jesus, And this is why we weep at death—not just in grief but in...

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) on Sunday suggested that Russia would not have invaded Ukraine if the U.S. provided weapons to Kyiv sooner. “This is going to get stronger and rougher and what really needs to happen is, Ukraine is not asking for American men and women to fight, all they’re asking for is the weapons to defend themselves,” McCarthy told Fox News chief Washington correspondent Mike Emanuel on “Fox News Sunday.”

Many solid tumors can be carefully excised, but others, such as diffuse midline gliomas, or DMGs, are much trickier. Children who have been diagnosed with a DMG tumor are projected to live for less than a year. Physician-scientists discovered that DMG tumors are uniquely dependent on methionine—an amino acid that humans must receive from food. Fortunately, DMG cells may have a special vulnerability that could be exploited for therapeutic benefit. Careful analysis of those cells' genetic code revealed that they have a unique feature—a mutation in proteins that provide structural support to the DNA—that makes them particularly vulnerable to methionine...

In 1897, Adolph S. Ochs, the owner of the New York Times, created the famous slogan, "All the News That's Fit to Print," which still appears on the masthead of the newspaper today. Adolph wrote the slogan as a declaration of the newspaper's intention to give the news, "impartially, without fear or favor, regardless of party, sect or interests involved." Hunter Biden's laptop story apparently wasn't fit to print until 16 months after Joe Biden was elected president. Strange coincidence. In another strange coincidence, on Easter weekend, the NY Times published an op-ed piece (that was fit to print) written...

A senior US official has accused Russia of driving food shortages in Yemen and around the world, suggesting Moscow is to blame for rapidly rising prices. The Kremlin rejected the charge, instead citing American sanctions as a leading cause of starvation. In an address at the United Nations headquarters in New York on Thursday, US Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield attempted to tie Russia’s attack on Ukraine to Yemen’s dire hunger crisis. “The World Food Program’s March report identified Yemen as one of the countries most affected by wheat price increases and lack of imports from Ukraine. This is...

Inflation Joe and Slow-Walking Jay. The bullies of the middle class and low-wage workers. As inflation crushes the middle class and low wage workers, we see that the REAL Fed Funds Target Rate (based on headline inflation) is the lowest in history. Notice that the REAL Fed Funds Target Rate tends to hit its lowest negative reading DURING recessions, although The Fed has had a poor track record since the Dot.com bubble burst and the 2001 recession meaning that the REAL Fed Funds Target rate has been in negative territory (that is, the rate of inflation has exceeded The Fed...
