"Rep. Ro Khanna and Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse are pushing a bill they say will help bring relief from high gas prices to Americans – as energy industry critics argue it would do the exact opposite. The proposal, which comes as Russia's war on Ukraine delivers a shock to global energy prices, is called the 'Big Oil Windfall Profits Tax'."

With the threat of authoritarianism looming and a hostile faction threatening a democratic nation, it is incumbent upon us to support and coordinate with the insurgency. I’m not talking about Ukraine. I am describing Democrats supporting Republican refugees within the insurgency of the GOP, people who belonged to the party of Reagan and now find themselves impressed into the party of Trump. That’s why I traveled to Washington, D.C., to take part in the Principles First conference, a gathering of moderate Republicans many of whom are actively working to restore the GOP and cleanse it of Trumpism. I don’t root...

WASHINGTON (AP) - Hundreds of truckers and other motorists who have been doing rolling protests on highways encircling Washington made their way into the nation’s capital Monday, snarling already-congested traffic in a demonstration against COVID-19 mandates and other grievances. The DC Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency issued a traffic advisory shortly before 2 p.m. that suggested motorists delay travel or use alternative transportation “due to ongoing demonstration activity on I-395, I-695, and I-295.” The Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Police Department closed a number of streets and exits off the highways to prevent the protesters from coming into the city. “These...

After receiving her first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, Li Jun’s 4-year-old developed a fever and coughs, which quickly subsided after intravenous therapy at the hospital. But after the second shot, the father could tell something was wrong. Swelling appeared around his daughter’s eyes and did not go away. For weeks, the girl complained about pains on her legs, where bruises started to emerge seemingly out of nowhere. In January, a few weeks after the second dose, the 4-year-old was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. “My baby was perfectly healthy before the vaccine dose,” Li (an alias), from China’s north-central...

Amendments by Acclamation: Democrats Move to Simply Declare the Equal Rights Amendment as RatifiedBelow is my column in the Hill on the Democratic campaign to simply declare the Equal Rights Amendment ratified as the 28th Amendment to the Constitution. The question is whether raw politics is enough to shock the unratified and undead into life. Here is the column:Madison, Jefferson, Adams, Franklin: The names of great constitutional figures are etched in the minds of every schoolchild. But soon, if Democrats in Congress have their way, they will add one more: David Ferriero.Who is David Ferriero, you ask? He is 10th Archivist...

Victoria Police are a disgrace. They roam safe streets in groups of five when there is absolutely no public danger or crime happening, while there are not enough nurses in hospitals or teachers in schools. They are arrogant or stupid. Or, at best, ashamed of what they are. When they commit crimes against people (false imprisonment, assault, perjury, to mention a few), they are rarely held to account. They dont get charged with these crimes and put on trial but are the beneficiaries of secretive "professional standards" investigations. Australia was a strong creative much freer society but ridiculous progressive misuse...

The White House confirmed Monday that gas prices in the United States would continue rising, even as President Joe Biden has offered few specific solutions to the problem. “In terms of how far, you know, we still believe it will continue to go up,” White House press secretary Jen Psaki told reporters when asked about the price of gas.

Explanation: Where do stars form? One place, star forming regions known as "EGGs", are being uncovered at the end of this giant pillar of gas and dust in the Eagle Nebula (M16). Short for evaporating gaseous globules, EGGs are dense regions of mostly molecular hydrogen gas that fragment and gravitationally collapse to form stars. Light from the hottest and brightest of these new stars heats the end of the pillar and causes further evaporation of gas and dust -- revealing yet more EGGs and more young stars. This featured picture was created from exposures spanning over 30 hours with the...

The Times sued after STATE allegedly slow-walked a records request. A NYT lawyer said the State Department will start handing over records in April.
