“We have communicated very clearly to Beijing that we won’t stand by,” State Department spokesperson Ned Price told reporters on Monday. “We will not allow any country to compensate Russia for its losses.”
The seven-hour meeting was “intense” and reflected “the gravity of the moment,” according to a U.S. official.

I bet leaders of countries like China, Russia, etc., just love it when arrogant weasel boys from America DEMAND they do this or that. The bullying style almost guarantees that they will do exactly the opposite or whatever they have been ordered not to, just to prove they are not America’s dogs to obey our commands. What smart diplomats we have.

China does not want to be solely dependent on us. They want one foot in the door with the Russians as well.
If they screw the Russians over now, can they depend on them when in 2 or 5 years we have them in our cross hairs?
Russia is a major arms producer in the world as well, and in fact, unlike many others, much of their stuff is parallel development whereas the Chinese and many others copy. The Chinese buy a lot of Russian designed military hardware or buy the license to build it.
If anything, this conflict will push Russia and china closer together, even if the Chinese are coerced into playing our game. Unforeseen consequences, not really... But probably for some 25 year old Intel analyst that once visited China for 4 weeks as part of his degree/training program and knows how to order off a menu written in simplified Chinese.
