Explanation: The spiky stars in the foreground of this backyard telescopic frame are well within our own Milky Way Galaxy. But the two eye-catching galaxies lie far beyond the Milky Way, at a distance of over 300 million light-years. Their distorted appearance is due to gravitational tides as the pair engage in close encounters. Cataloged as Arp 273 (also as UGC 1810), the galaxies do look peculiar, but interacting galaxies are now understood to be common in the universe. Nearby, the large spiral Andromeda Galaxy is known to be some 2 million light-years away and approaching the Milky Way. The...

Police Commissioner Andrew Coster says an alternative to police's de-escalation approach towards anti-mandate protesters would involve tear gas and batons being deployed on Parliament's grounds. Coster told Q=A'2 Jack Tame that police were taking its existing de-escalation approach as it believed the alternative of a forceful pushback could not be justified. "I think police could clear the protest, but I don't think the harm that would come from how we need to do that is acceptable relative to the harm that the protest is doing," he said. "The balance we have here is keeping the peace and enforcing the law....

...To understand how this echo chamber works, we have to start with the Ottawa protest itself. The “Freedom Convoy’’ started as a loosely affiliated group of Canadian truck drivers led by a group called Canada Unity, founded by far-right activist and QAnon conspiracy theorist James Bauder. But over the last 30 days, Bauder has managed to build a coalition of fed-up truck drivers, fringe Canadian political party members, neo-Nazis, anti-vaxxers, and an international coterie of scammers, grifters, and low-level online creators that has been able to generate major headlines around the world.

Took the first step to cutting the cable cord. Currently have Cox and they were charging $130 for three TVs with basic channels. Switching to YouTube TV at $65 for three TVs. Not crazy about their politics but Cox isn't much better with their Hug project for illegal aliens and those they left behind. YouTube TV has the closest lineup to what we're used to with cable although I'm looking at adding frndly TV for a few bucks a month to get the History channel. I'm planning on keeping Cox internet but we have a new fiber optic provider coming...

These particular DEWs reportedly used concentrated microwave radiation to inflict painful burns on the skin from far distances.

The Sacramento City Unified School District announced Thursday that it has identified the suspect responsible for vandalizing C.K. McClatchy High School last week with racist graffiti. On Feb. 11, an individual wrote "white" and "colored" over a school water fountain, referencing the Jim Crow era. Mark T. Harris, the district's race and equity monitor, told CBS13 that a black female student has confessed to the vandalism, and was caught on camera in the act. Harris said that he believes the vandalism was not a racially motivated act. "I don’t believe those words that were on those water fountains were racist,"...

On Friday’s “PBS NewsHour,” New York Times columnist David Brooks stated that “we’d be looking at a very difficult and very troubling” scenario if former President Donald Trump was still the president during the current situation with Russia and Ukraine. Because “Donald Trump was never one to really go toe-to-toe with Vladimir Putin.” While President Joe Biden “has done an excellent job of rallying the Western alliance.” Brooks said, “The Biden administration has done an excellent job of rallying the Western alliance. It’s been a demonstration of why the world needs America to be a leader of the free world....

“‘Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted’” (Matthew 5:4). A general love of sin is the greatest hindrance to true spiritual mourning, because holding on to sins causes our hearts to harden. One of the less advertised but more common sins is the sin of despair, which is essentially the same as giving up on God and putting ourselves outside His grace—refusing to believe He can save or help us. The prophet Jeremiah wrote this of such people: “But they will say, ‘It’s hopeless! For we are going to follow our own plans, and each of us...

At Vatican fraud trial, lawyers argue pope violated defendants' rights Vatican City — Defense lawyers in the Vatican's fraud and extortion trial on Feb. 18 accused Pope Francis of violating their clients' human rights by issuing four secret, executive decrees that gave prosecutors free reign to investigate in ways that deprived the suspects of basic legal guarantees. The lawyers argued that the resulting trial into the Vatican's bungled 350 million euro investment in a London real estate deal is therefore illegitimate, and they again called for Tribunal President Giuesppe Pignatone to throw out the indictments. Pignatone is set to rule on...

Sheriff Michael Chapman of Loudoun County, Va. got an unpleasant surprise recently from Old Joe Biden’s handlers. On Thursday, the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office published a press release that reveals the truly astonishing extent of the administration’s high-handedness, dishonesty, carelessness, and recklessness in its resettlement of Afghan refugees in cities and towns all over the United States. Without any prior warning, Loudoun County officials were told that 2,000 Afghan refugees would be arriving in the county in just over two weeks and that 2,000 more would be arriving every month after that through September. In what will come as no...
