The specter of a military confrontation on the Ukrainian border is stoking fears in Europe of an interruption in natural gas from Russia -- and pumping fresh life into the debate over whether President Joe Biden's climate agenda is brushing up against difficult geopolitical realities. Critics of the Biden administration say its efforts to curb domestic oil and gas production have complicated its ability to negotiate with Russia, which provides more than a third of Europe's natural gas. To others, the standoff demonstrates the need for a swift transition to clean energy, "so that we're not held hostage by Russia...

Former President Obama exhorted House Democrats to celebrate their accomplishments on the campaign trail, rather than dwell on the setbacks they've faced, as they try to defend their slim majority in the midterm elections this year. Obama, the featured keynote speaker during the caucus' virtual messaging summit Thursday, told lawmakers to "take the wins you can get" and it "doesn't help to whine about the stuff you can't change," according to two sources familiar with the conversation. He argued that they have a more compelling message in selling what their legislative successes mean to voters, rather than campaigning from a...

Kansas state Senate Republicans have removed three of their own members from committee assignments after a dispute over new congressional district map lines earlier this week. State Senate President Ty Masterson (R) said he would remove state Sens. Dennis Pyle, Mark Steffen and Alicia Straub from one committee each after the three Republicans voted with Democrats to uphold Gov. Laura Kelly’s (D) veto of the congressional district maps. Masterson and Kansas Republicans scrounged up the votes to override the veto after a delay. The state House joined the Senate Thursday to override her veto. “To maintain unity in the caucus,...

Comrades, Ontario Premier Doug Ford held a press conference this afternoon to announce he has declared a ‘state of emergency‘ and intends to issue orders against dissident truckers authorizing the police to place them under arrest, initiate fines up to $100k each individual, and revoke the personal and commercial licenses of anyone who doesn’t comply. The rebellion must be quashed, before the citizens start to think they have power. As a typical DeceptiCon, Premier Ford begins his justification with the feels, and then gets to down to the business of calling the Freedom Protest in Ottawa an illegal occupation. Ford...

Georgia's Stacey Abrams rocketed to such political stardom after her narrow 2018 loss to Republican Gov. Brian Kemp that Democrats essentially cleared the field for her bid for governor this year. But now that Abrams’ campaign has begun, she’s campaigning in an environment that’s different and in some ways trickier than what she faced four years ago. In her first high-profile stumble of this campaign, Abrams apologized on CNN Tuesday for having removed her mask for a picture with masked school children — a photo she had shared on Twitter and quickly deleted. Republicans widely criticized the photo as a...

Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk is issuing a dire warning about the record U.S. national debt, which has surpassed $30 trillion. "True national debt, including unfunded entitlements, is at least $60 trillion – roughly three times the size of the entire US economy. Something has got to give," Musk tweeted Thursday night in response to a Babylon Bee article titled, "Biden Goes Double Or Nothing On National Debt By Placing $30 Trillion On The Bengals." There is reportedly about $93 trillion of unfunded liabilities over 75 years. Unfunded liabilities are defined as promised benefits to individuals through entitlement programs...

WASHINGTON (AP) — A federal judge on Friday blocked the Biden administration’s attempt to put greater emphasis on the potential damage from greenhouse gas emissions when creating rules for polluting industries. U.S. District Judge James Cain of the Western District of Louisiana sided with Republican attorneys general who said the administration’s raising the cost estimate of carbon dioxide emissions threatened to drive up energy costs while decreasing state revenues from energy production. The judge issued an injunction that bars the administration from using the higher cost estimate, which puts a dollar value on damages caused by every additional ton of...

New Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel is, according to the NFL, a minority. That matters because the NFL has specific rules about minority coaches, including that the 49ers will receive two third-round draft picks for helping to develop a minority assistant coach to the point where another team hired him to be its head coach. But McDaniel, to many eyes, looks white. And there’s been some hand-wringing on social media about whether McDaniel is “really” a minority. For McDaniel himself, he wishes people would just identify him as human. “It’s been very odd, to tell you the truth, this idea...

A New Brunswick father has lost custody of his children after refusing COVID vaccine. Despite overwhelming evidence that inoculating infants against the virus is unnecessary, the judge granted the mom authorization to have children vaccinated without paternal agreement.Another father in Canada is being kept separate from his kids after a judge found that he presented a health risk to one of them by refusing to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. The father of three was barred from visiting his children in person on January 31 by Justice Nathalie Godbout of the Court of Queen’s Bench, New Brunswick, for refusing to undergo...

Jon Stewart is coming to the defense of fellow podcaster Joe Rogan over the uproar surrounding “misinformation” about vaccines that has prompted calls for Spotify to sever ties with its $100 million star. Stewart, the former star of Comedy Central’s Daily Show who is now hosting his own gabfest on Apple’s streaming service, said on Thursday that “canceling” Rogan would be akin to banning Stewart from television for his opposition to the Iraq War in 2003. “The New York Times, right, was a giant purveyor of misinformation, and disinformation,” Stewart said of the newspaper’s editorial support for the Iraq war.

If you are an American citizen living in Ukraine, you might want to start packing your bags. President Biden told NBC News anchor Lester Holt that if Russia invades Ukraine any Americans left behind will be trapped. Biden stated that he wouldn’t send American troops into Ukraine to get American citizens out if Russia invades, it wouldn’t be possible to do so and to find people and that he’s “hoping” if Putin does invade, “he’s smart enough not to, in fact, do anything that would negatively impact on American citizens.” Host Lester Holt asked, “What scenarios would you put American...

Greg Abbott, Texas’s dependably conservative Republican governor, is running for reelection this year. He’s campaigning on the back of a record packed with recent far-right wins that can help him fend off his most serious challengers, all of whom are coming from his right. It’s a dynamic that can be seen across 2022’s Republican primary contests, where candidates are clamoring to convince voters that they are the most conservative, most Trump-like option available. And Abbott has given his fellow incumbents a powerful playbook for combating rivals on the right: Pursue an ultraconservative agenda and align yourself as closely as possible...

Anyone familiar with my scribbling knows that I separate modern society into two categories: World Turners and The Useless. Me? I’m no World Turner. I’m one of The Useless. What I mean is this: If everyone who does what I do for a living stopped doing it today, the world would keep right on turning. Society would roll along just fine without me and mine — maybe better. Sure, a few people might miss my musings, but only for a little while. And the same is true for anyone who makes a living spewing their half-assed opinions (especially Jonah Goldberg)....

S national security adviser Jake Sullivan warned Americans in Ukraine on Friday to leave within one to two days, spelling out what a Russian attack on the country could look like -- and that civilians could die. "Any American in Ukraine should leave as soon as possible, and in any event in the next 24 to 48 hours," Sullivan said. "We obviously cannot predict the future, we don't know exactly what is going to happen. But the risk is now high enough and the threat is now immediate enough that this is what prudence demands." "If a Russian attack on...
