Texas Gov. Greg Abbott is making sure no one can call him a RINO

Greg Abbott, Texas’s dependably conservative Republican governor, is running for reelection this year. He’s campaigning on the back of a record packed with recent far-right wins that can help him fend off his most serious challengers, all of whom are coming from his right.

It’s a dynamic that can be seen across 2022’s Republican primary contests, where candidates are clamoring to convince voters that they are the most conservative, most Trump-like option available. And Abbott has given his fellow incumbents a powerful playbook for combating rivals on the right: Pursue an ultraconservative agenda and align yourself as closely as possible with former President Donald Trump.

In Texas, a state where Republicans have held trifecta control for more than two decades, incumbent Republicans like Abbott have more to fear from their own base than from Democrats. That’s especially true in a year where Democrats are facing a challenging midterm election season nationally and President Joe Biden’s low approval ratings have Republicans believing they have an edge with independents and moderates.

The March 1 primary in Texas will therefore likely decide whether Abbott will serve a third term — Abbott is favored in the general election against the expected Democratic nominee, former presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke. Abbott appears poised to win the primary in light of his efforts to prove his conservative bona fides and allegiance to Trump, who remains the most popular Republican in Texas. Abbott’s campaign did not respond to requests for comment.

That's how election pressure works:

"We're not falling for any games. Do what we want or you're out. There's ALWAYS somebody else we can hire!"

And surprise, surprise, we get conservative legislation, not pusillanimous pussyfooting.

pusillanimous

I had to look that one up. pusillanimous: showing a lack of courage or determination; timid.

I had no idea. I knew calling someone a 'pussy' meant chicken$h1t, but I didnt know it had an origin other than from female anatomy.

And THAT'S why I like this place!!

“I had to look that one up. pusillanimous: showing a lack of courage or determination; timid.”

Just to provide you with some background, the phrase “pusillanimous pussyfooter” was not my own. It’s a quote from Nixon’s vice-president Spiro Agnew (written by speechwriter Pat Buchanan).

But it applies well.

I don't hear Abbott making any plans to empower and adequately fund and supply Texas National Guard and other Texas policing institutions (Sheriffs, State Police, Local Police) to stop the invasion that Biden and his ilk are facilitating.

I’ve supported Abbott in the past, but given his windsock words not action lately I will be casting my vote for West.
I have decided to start my own term limits program as well.
No matter who it is, no matter what they’ve done, no one gets more than 2 terms.

Allan West does not really have the experience to be gov of Texas in my opinion-he only came here a few years ago from Florida, where he was a one-term rep-but he would make a wonderful replacement to primary RINO senator John Cornyn when he is up up for re-election-what a joy it would be to replace that democrat-ass-kissing wuss with a guy who has real cojones-I don’t have much to spend, but would definitely contribute some of that little to a West senatorial campaign...

Won't matter if they don't deal honestly with election fraud (and they haven't up to this point). It might not be a major problem in TX, but it is a problem in many other states.

The guard is allowed to do LOTS of things. They get to welcome Mexicans, have warming tents, feeding tents, keep independent reporters away, etc etc.

His National Guard on the border has not stopped one illegal. Abbott is afraid of Washington DC. Don’t yet know who to vote for. Not West, I love him but he isn’t Governor material. Not Huffines, 66 yr old, past retirement age and wants to start running for governor?

So, no doubt, I will end up with Abbott even tho he isn’t perfect.

There are limitations on what the nat guard is allowed to do when called by a governor of a state-they can’t do all the things people imagine they can-they are not Texas LEOs...

Ok so the GOP wins big in November. The only subject for him during the lame duck period should be Texas secession. The rest of the country will take notice. 52 + GOP senators and enough house members WITHOUT Texas should be enough to push the issue. A slimmer majority will get the rest of the US GOP to

I’m Native Tejana/Hispanic, and I’d love to see the Border patrol, DPS, county sheriffs, etc-go out in the dead of night for about a week, detaining mojados and ferrying them back across the border by water or land-all state LEOs-no fed-and nothing to show in the light of day that anyone was captured or taken anywhere-but I guess I’m just a mean person-and I wouldn’t really want any fed doing that anyway-it is our state-not anyone else’s...
