The Dow Jones industrial average took an icy plunge of more than 1,000 points on Monday â its worst start âeverâ â but ABC, NBC, and CBS chose to whitewash the shocking news and gave the story just minutes of coverage. Bloomberg News reported on Monday that â[t]he stock market has never been down this much 16 trading days into a year.â The shocking drop of 11 percent was âthe most on record at this juncture, according to Bloomberg data that goes back over nine decades.â This is scary news for Americans already gravely concerned about job numbers and inflation,...

Consider, Sir, the great influence, which this [Senate] armed at all points will have. What will be the effect of this? Probably, a security of their re-election, as long as they please. Indeed, in my view, it will amount nearly to an appointment for life. What will be their situation in a federal town? Hallowed ground! Nothing so unclean as state laws to enter there; surrounded, as they will be, by an impenetrable wall of adamant and gold; the wealth of the whole country flowing into it. Their attention to their various business, will probably require their constant attendance.—In this...

Accepting his new position on Wednesday, Green Party politician Sven Lehmann said “everyone should be able to live freely, safely, and with equal rights.” In the newly created role of “Federal Government Commissioner for the Acceptance of Sexual and Gender Diversity,” Lehmann will be responsible for working with government ministries on policy projects affecting the LGBTQ+ community. He will also spearhead the government’s National Action Plan for Sexual and Gender Diversity. Germany’s month-old government — made up of the center-left Social Democrats (SPD), the Greens and the neoliberal Free Democrats (FDP) — previously set out the plan in their coalition...

The Democratic Party establishment is none too happy with Arizona Sen. Kyrsten Sinema. Despite the fact that she votes for President Joe Biden’s agenda north of 95% of the time, her state party apparatchiks voted this past week to censure her. This for refusing, along with Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., to go along with scuttling the legislative filibuster to pass the so-called "voting rights" bill. The obstinance of these two moderate lawmakers has drawn comparisons to Reps. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., and Adam Kinzinger, R-Ill., who also exist at odds with the powers that be in the Republican Party. But the...

CHICAGO – On the 68th day of his 100-day rooftop vigil to build a community center designed to provide opportunities to his community, Pastor Corey Brooks discusses how parents must step up when it comes to educating their children. What follows has been lightly edited. We strongly encourage you to watch the accompanying video so you may hear the pastor in his own words. In an earlier Rooftop Revelation, I spoke about the need to have school choice. And I spoke about an elementary school that is only two blocks away from where I sit. Only 6% of the kids at...

The Falcon 9 booster was launched in February 2015 as part of a mission to send a climate observation satellite 930,000 miles (1.5 million kilometers) from Earth, but since running out of fuel, the 4.4-ton (4 metric tons) rocket has been hurtling around space in a chaotic orbit. The rocket's upper stage is now expected to hit the far side of the moon while traveling at a blistering speed of 5,771 mph (9,288 km/h) on March 4, 2022, according to Bill Gray, a developer of software that tracks near-Earth objects. In a Jan. 21 blog post, Gray noted that the...

Nearly 100 cases of the Omicron subvariant BA.2 have been identified in the United States, which is now present in nearly 50 countries around the world. As scientists continue to study whether it causes more or less severe illness than Omicron BA.1, officials in Denmark, where the subvariant is dominant, are weighing in. "There is no evidence that the BA.2 variant causes more disease, but it must be more contagious," Danish Health Minister Magnus Heunicke said during a news conference on Wednesday. Preliminary calculations suggest BA.2 could be 1.5 times more infectious than BA.1, Denmark's top infectious disease authority, Statens...

Travelling into space is something that many people dream of, and it almost became a reality for one man - until he stepped on the scales. Airline pilot Kyle Hippchen, 43, from Florida, was delighted to win a raffle ticket to be part of the Inspiration4 crew on SpaceX's first tourist flight last year. But at 5ft10 and 330lbs he exceeded SpaceX's 250lb weight limit. So his seat went to his college roommate, Chris Sembroski, 42, a data engineer in Everett, Washington while Hippchen watched from a VIP balcony. The pain of missing out on the once-in-a-lifetime trip still hasn't...

The Department of Justice (DOJ), under former President Trump, issued an opinion through its Office of Legal Counsel in January 2020 that the ERA is no longer pending before the states and couldn't be ratified because its deadline expired. In a new opinion issued Wednesday, the Justice Department's Office of Legal Counsel clarified that its previous decision "does not preclude the House or the Senate from taking further action regarding ratification of the ERA." President Biden, in a statement issued by the White House, urged Congress to "act immediately" to pass the resolution recognizing ratification of the ERA.

The U.S. economy grew at a much better-than-expected pace to end 2021 from sizeable boosts in inventories and consumer spending, and despite signs that the acceleration likely tailed off toward the end of the year.Gross domestic product, the sum of all goods and services produced during the October-through-December period, increased at a 6.9% annualized pace, the Commerce Department reported Thursday. Economists surveyed by Dow Jones had been looking for a gain of 5.5%...The quarter brought an end to a 2021 that saw a 5.7% increase in annualized GDP, the strongest pace since 1984 as the U.S. tried to pull away...

A conscript soldier in Ukraine’s National Guard was arrested Thursday after he opened fire in a machine factory in the east of the country, killing five people and wounding five more, authorities said. Ukraine’s Interior Ministry said in a statement that the guardsman, identified as 21-year-old Artemiy Ryabchuk, shot at a group of his colleagues at the facility in the city of Dnipro at around 3:40 a.m. local time while weapons were being distributed. Four servicemen and one civilian woman were killed. The suspect reportedly fled with a weapon, but was later apprehended.

According to reporting by Axios last month, McConnell told a room full of donors, lobbyists, and in-cycle senators that he would not be putting forward an agenda outlining the priorities for his conference should Senate Republicans regain a majority in 2022. In other words, McConnell and GOP senators seem prepared to run solely on a platform detailing how bad the other guy is, and that scrupulously and intentionally avoids discussing what they intend to do about it. What McConnell likely means by “I’ll let you know” is that K Street’s concerns will be satisfied. Wall Street will get what it...

The US and NATO on Wednesday delivered a written response to Russia against the draft of security guarantees Kremlin demanded last December. The United States and North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) on Wednesday delivered a written response to Russia against the draft of security guarantees Kremlin demanded last December. In its proposal, NATO rejected the list of demands Russia handed over after Moscow increased military concentration in the eastern European borders. "Our response outlined three main areas where the international military bloc observed room for progress," NATO Chief Jens Stoltenberg said in a statement, while US State Secretary Antony Blinken...

Senate Democrats recently renewed their effort to eliminate or change the U.S. Senate’s filibuster, one of America’s most enduring legislative traditions. They’ve attempted to sanitize their plan by calling it “reform,” but it’s increasingly clear that their real intent is far more insidious: to bulldoze a key Senate procedure so they can quickly push through their agenda without having to compromise with the minority party. In other words, it’s another brazen attempt to grab more political power. People of faith in America, please heed this warning: Your religious liberty could be in grave danger if the party in power succeeds...

Is the strain of Joe Biden's pitiful polling numbers getting to Biden fanboy Joe Scarborough? The Morning Joe host has long been a leading Trump hater but Thursday morning seemed to be the first time he indulged in violent fantasies about the former president. It happened during a segment on Boris Johnson's woes in the UK. Said Scarborough: "I wonder, Jon Meacham, if what we’re seeing in Britain may be coming to America soon where a bloviating, right-wing nationalist who seems to be able to get away with just about anything and defy political gravity may be finally getting his...
