With Los Angeles County’s new COVID-19 vaccine proof requirements now in effect for bars and other venues, bartenders are faced with turning away paying customers and worrying about having to deal with unruly patrons. The venues will have to make sure that customers aged 12 and older have taken two doses of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, or one dose of Johnson & Johnson at least 14 days before trying to enter the venue. But critics have voiced concern over the differing rules in the city and county sowing confusion for businesses and customers, and putting those in L.A. at...

It won’t take long for the Aaron Rodgers controversy to be forgotten. The future Hall of Famer committed the “sins” of not publicly disclosing his unvaxxed status before testing positive with Covid-19, then going after the “woke mob” that has targeted him ever since. Compared to the plethora of violent criminals who seem to invariably get a pass because they can catch the football or make a tackle, the Rodgers scandal is mild. One of his long-time sponsors, State Farm, issued a statement of acknowledgement. They offered lukewarm support for his right to choose but otherwise embraced the universal vaccination...

Prices of regular gasoline in the United States have risen to a new seven-year high, according to new data from AAA, as elevated crude prices and an uptick in gasoline demand put upward pressure on prices at the pump. As of Nov. 8, the national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline in the United States rose to a seven-year high of $3.422, up slightly from the previous day’s average of $3.421 and a penny more than the week-ago average of $3.402, according to AAA. Last week, gasoline demand rose from 9.32 million barrels per day to 9.5 million...

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said Monday that he was “delighted” to hear Congress passed the $1.2 trillion so-called bipartisan infrastructure bill, granting President Joe Biden a significant legislative victory. “I was delighted to hear that the House finally found a way to pass the infrastructure bill last week,” McConnell, one of the 19 Senate Republicans to vote for the bill, said during an event in northern Kentucky.

DENVER (AP) — A North Dakota-based organization representing Native Americans sued Colorado this week for a measure banning American Indian school mascots which was passed last year amid a nationwide push for racial justice following George Floyd’s murder in Minneapolis. The lawsuit by the nonprofit Native American Guardian’s Association was filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court, naming Gov. Jared Polis, Attorney General Phil Weiser and Kathryn Redhorse, the executive director of the Colorado Commission of Indian Affairs. The firm is representing a John Doe, Jane Doe and three other Colorado residents who cite Native American heritage in the lawsuit. The...

Trucking industry groups issued warnings after President Joe Biden’s administration unveiled a COVID-19 vaccine rule targeting private businesses with 100 or more workers, saying the mandate would damage the industry. “As we made clear in our comments to the administration prior to the rule’s publication, drivers spend the vast majority of their workday alone in the cab and outside,” the American Trucking Associations President Chris Spear said in a statement last week after the rule was published in the Federal Register. On Nov. 4, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) released guidance stipulating businesses with 100 or more employees...

LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — Police suspect one driver got into three crashes on Interstate 15 in the central Las Vegas valley Monday morning, resulting in heavy traffic in both directions. Collisions on both sides of the interstate near Sahara Avenue had cars moving toward a crawl. On the northbound side, authorities were blocking at least three lanes for a crash. The scene has been cleared, though some residual backup is expected to continue. Southbound traffic was backed up past the Spaghetti Bowl and toward Lake Mead Boulevard. Lt. Phase 3 trial results by biotech company Regeneron showed its new drug provides long-term protection against COVID-19, KTLA sister station KRON reported. A single dose of the antibody cocktail reduced the risk of contracting COVID-19 by 81.6% during months 2-8, according to results released Monday. Previously published results already showed its effectiveness within one month of getting the injection. Regeneron said none of the participants who were injected with a single dose of the ‘REGEN-COV’ antibody cocktail were hospitalized with COVID-19 during the eight-month trial run in collaboration with the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. Meanwhile, six people...

President Biden’s job approval rating fell to a new low in a poll released Monday — but the news was even worse for Vice President Kamala Harris. The USA Today/Suffolk University survey showed just 37.8 percent of Americans approve of Biden’s performance in office. By contrast, 59 percent of Americans disapprove of the president, whose ratings have been plunging since August. Biden’s previous low job approval rating came in a Quinnipiac poll last month, which showed 38 percent of Americans approved of his performance, while 53 percent disapproved.

Vermont's Republican Party has scheduled a “Let’s go Brandon” rally — to be held in the city of Brandon, Vt. The chant has become popular among Republicans as an alternative to a profane change directed at President Biden, and Vermont's GOP is seeking to take advantage with the rally scheduled for Brandon’s Central Park on Nov. 13. The party plans to distribute hats, T-shirts, and bumper stickers to those in attendance to raise money for the state party. It also said portions of the proceeds of sales made from the rally would go to the Brandon area's Emergency Food Shelf.

Vice President Kamala Harris consistently receives lower approval ratings than President Joe Biden in public opinions polls, and a new USA Today/Suffolk survey continues that trend in startling fashion. According to the poll, conducted among 1,000 registered voters from Nov. 3-5, Biden has an approval rating of 38% and Harris has an even worse 28% approval rating. The poll found that Harris is more unpopular than both congressional Democrats (29% approval) and congressional Republicans (35% approval), which is pretty hard to do as members of Congress often receive low marks in public opinion polls (overall congressional approval is at 12%).

Russia’s ambition to remain the Arctic superpower is propelling its all-out effort to guard its economic interests there with broad territorial claims over waterways and a continued military build-up in a region the United States often ignored, an expert on Arctic defense and security said Wednesday. As a consequence of its vision of the Arctic as an economic engine for growth, Moscow “has done a better job of building out infrastructure,” from expanding its fleet of icebreakers to modernizing ports and ramping up military presence in specially-designed “Arctic Trefoils” military bases to back its claims over the Northern Sea Route, Bouffard...

New York Times senior economics correspondent Neil Irwin twisted himself into a pretzel to protect the failing Biden administration's economic agenda again — this time suggesting American furor over the poor state of the economy is more about perception than reality. Irwin’s recent article had a condescending headline: “Americans Are Flush With Cash and Jobs. They Also Think the Economy Is Awful.” He pointed to the decreasing unemployment rate, how workers allegedly have the “upper hand” in the labor market, and Americans “sitting on piles of cash” to cast doubt on the “scathing” resentment of the economy. He stated that...
