Veteran's Day program by a Christian elementary school

I just returned from being honored as a vet.

TOPICS: Chit/Chat; Education; History; Military/Veterans
KEYWORDS: freerepublic; veterans; veteransday
Some years ago, I met a person from Central Christian academy in Houston, Pa., and was invited (as a vet) to a veteran's day program put on by the school.

Today was my forth attendance.

It started at 9 AM and finished about 1115 AM.

These folks have been honoring veterans for about twenty years and their program is a joy to attend.

The school is for grades K - 8th grade.

I feel led to post this account because I have had my spirits uplifted tremendously this last week, what with Virginia and N.J., but this celebration really tenderized my heart.

CCA started honoring vets about 20 years ago because of a veteran parent and that first celebration honored 11 vets. Today, there were approx. 30 vets in attendance.

It started with the Marine Corps honor guard, presenting the colors, followed by a bag-piper .

The presentation was different grade levels singing patriotic songs, and a couple of poems read.

A retired AF MSGT and his AF Major daughter, spoke about being in the air medical part of the AF and clips of re-fueling in air.

Every branch was called to stand when our theme was played and MSGT had preluded that event with an explanation about Viet Nam vets coming home to hatred and spitting and a special award was presented to the Viet Nam vets in attendance.

But the greatest event was the kindergarteners, 1st and 2nd grades, lumped together singing patriotic songs animated at the top of their lungs !

These kids were excited to be doing this (one reason I keep going back)

In years past, we vets would line up and every child and teacher AND cadre would file by, shake every hand and (they were taught to look into our eyes to) thank us for our service.

These last two years stopped that and they now line the driveway of their school parking lot and wave flags and cheer us on and thank us for our service as we drive out.

I go nowhere without my Trump hat or 2nd amendment hat (mostly Trump) and today was red Trump.

I was floored when little kids ... I'll guess to be maybe 3rd or 4th grade (and up) would say, "Like your hat"

I get that from adults in Walmart, but not little kids in a Christian school .... but then .... what school WOULD say something like that except a Christian school.

Covid stopped us from shaking hands, but didn't stop us from personally communicating and three or four 7th or 8th grade boys actually said "Touch my flag" !

I'm exhilarated now because of the last couple of hours and a renewed excitement for America.

We're gonn'a be OK because these aren't just kids in a Christian school, they're kids in patriotic Christian families.

Central Christian has about 260 kids and if the law of the 3's works out . . . we can expect about 80 hard core military kids, and at least 120 military oriented Christian families in less than 20 years.

It's a good day in America.

Good report - like the positive notes at the end - thanks for your service from another vet!

Glad to hear it was such a positive experience for you. My kids' private elementary does this too, with uniforms on display (like my dad's Navy uniform from the Korean Conflict), pictures, posted stories of Vets, and a Cub Scout honor guard to meet the Vets that day.

I always wondered if it really meant anything to the veterans that showed up. Now I know.

Super awesome! glad the kids did this for you! This was something that will likely a.ways be remembered fondly by them as they grow up and look back later in life. glad to see kids participating in honoring others, rather than demanding this that and the other thing too, of others like many kids unfortunately today do.

Glad you got to experience that today. Wish more schools woild do things like this. To teach the kids to honor and appreciate others more. Might cut down on all,the anger going on in kids today if they were more community minded from an early age.

Every public .... er ... government indoctrination center has a board.

Run for and get elected (parents are SCREAMING for public school change ... you WILL win election) ... to the local school board.

Go in there with this attitude;

Any "group" that votes yea or nay is de facto a jury, thus ... JURY NULLIFICATION can and should be employed
