DENVER (AP) — A North Dakota-based organization representing Native Americans sued Colorado this week for a measure banning American Indian school mascots which was passed last year amid a nationwide push for racial justice following George Floyd’s murder in Minneapolis. The lawsuit by the nonprofit Native American Guardian’s Association was filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court, naming Gov. Jared Polis, Attorney General Phil Weiser and Kathryn Redhorse, the executive director of the Colorado Commission of Indian Affairs. The firm is representing a John Doe, Jane Doe and three other Colorado residents who cite Native American heritage in the lawsuit. The organization’s lawsuit argues that the Colorado law is unconstitutional and “unlawfully enacts state-sanctioned race discrimination” against the Native American residents the association is representing.

The Seminole tribe of Florida was very vocal about Florida State not changing their name. These sports franchises are a boon for their communities.

Now Native Americans can be completely erased from history.

If you want to show your support for the black counterfeiter thief who robbed a pregnant woman by pointing his gun at her belly, and it makes sense to support his memory by banning school mascots named after non-black native Americans ... you might be a Democrat.

I have actually wondered about this myself. At least to me it seems an honor for a team to be named after some group. People like their teams. It is great PR for the group the team is named after.

I guess expecting logic from the woke is like expecting your pet sloth to win the triple crown.

If someone described me as Indian (feather type). I wouldn’t care. It’s a perfectly good label.

“ Now Native Americans can be completely erased from history.”

No joke. More than half the states and landmarks have Indian names.

The Indian kids are making sense.

They often do. Near Spokane, we have three Indian tribes. They all have casinos, restaurants with terrific food at decent prices, and super nice employees.

And yes, “Indian” is preferred terminology for the people. A fellow who lived in my neighborhood, worked as a mental health counselor, was part Indian, looked it, and was happy to be called an Indian. Nice guy.

FSU has the complete blessing of the Seminole nation and always has....the biggest reason is the school treats the name and image with the utmost reverence and respect.

Back in the 90s some lib group tried to go after FSU about the mascot and the Seminole nation themselves said SEE YOU IN COURT.

That was the end of that.

It's almost always white leftists causing these problems in the name of sowing division and racial animus. Screw them.

The Seminoles deserve great respect. They never submitted to anyone, including the US government, and their casinos and gambling franchises are outstanding supporters of both the “tribe” and Florida in general. As with any group there are exceptions, but they are by far respectable and respectful citizens.

Good!

That is one way to battle the woke/cancel culture mentality.

Leftists have a tendency to back off when confronted.

Maybe the NFL Washington team can return to their former name. “The Washington team” is rather bland.

I have never known the use of any “native American” identity with a sports team to be anything other than respect for the native American’s warriors bravery. To my knowledge it has never been conceived of or used as a slur against any “native American” group.

I posted this a few days back. About 8-10 years ago the Wash. Post did a nationwide poll of several hundred Native Americans concerning the Washington Redskins name. 90% of those polled either liked the name, or didn’t care. The people at the Post were shocked, but credit where due, they did publish the results (vs just burying the story).

The ‘outrage’ over Native American team names/mascots is driven by white liberals. Native Americans are basically told to sit down and shut up, and let the liberals handle this.

Yep.

I remember one article about how something was "racist" and there was a rant posted about how this was why blacks and whites could not get along because black people saw everything as racist.

I pulled up a picture of the author and originator of the idea and pointed out that the little sodomite had a distinct lack of melanin.

Nearly all of the "that's racist" on stupid stuff comes from academics who are so pale they glow in the dark. And they tend to be sodomites.

People don’t name teams, aircraft, and vehicles after people they don’t respect.

Not to long ago we visited tribal lands on the Olympic penninsula north of the national park

There was a big tribal high school. They called themselves the Red Skins

Look what Land O Lakes did. Kept the land, got rid of the Indian. Talk about bad optics.
