A Synod to Create a Synodal Church In order to continue the aggiornamento of the Second Vatican Council, Pope Francis has decided to launch a synodal journey on the theme: “For a synodal Church: communion, participation and mission.” On September 7, 2021, the Holy See released the synod's preparatory document, as well as a vademecum, prior to this synod on synodality. These instruments aim to help dioceses around the world to carry out the first phase of listening to and consulting with the People of God, which will take place from October 2021 to April 2022—the continental phase. The universal phase...

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster said Thursday he plans to issue an executive order keeping his cabinet agencies from enforcing a federal mandate requiring companies with more than 100 employees to either have their workers vaccinated or tested for COVID-19 weekly. Under the new order, all state agencies will be required to report to the governor if the federal government asks whether their employees are vaccinated, the Republican governor said at a Thursday news conference. “We have been stunned at the overreach of the Biden administration. Stunned is the word,” McMaster said. South Carolina joined a...

LAKE QUIVIRA, Kan. (AP) — Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly argued Thursday that mandates like those imposed by the federal government for vaccinating workers against COVID-19 “tend not to work,” the Democrat’s first public statements on the rules heading into a difficult reelection campaign in her Republican-leaning state. Her comments during a Kansas City-area chambers of commerce lunch were her first public statements on the vaccine mandates. She’s faced criticism from Republicans and some labor-union members who oppose the mandates for not publicly opposing them after the Democratic president first announced them in September. Her staff has said she couldn’t comment...

The pandemic resulted in the permanent closure of roughly 200,000 U.S. establishments above historical levels during the first year of the viral outbreak, according to a study released Thursday by economists at the Fed. Barber shops, nail salons and other providers of personal services appear to be hardest hit, according to the Fed study, accounting for more than 100,000 establishment closures beyond historically normal levels between March 2020 and February 2021. The Fed estimates don’t include the roughly 26 million U.S. businesses without employees. Business failures traditionally have been highest among the smallest firms, those with fewer than five employees.

I originally shared this back in March of 2010, but have since learned more about the situation. So I decided to update the information and repost it. This is a home video of an incident that took place in December of 2009 in Astrakhan, which is in Southern Russia. It starts with a 38-year-old Chechen man who decided to pull a trick at a wedding where he was a guest. He claimed he had an unloaded gun and was going to act like he was playing Russian Roulette. So he puts a gun to his head, when another man with...

A Republican truck driver who spent just $153 on his campaign and ran for office after he was denied a gun permit secured a stunning victory against the longest-serving legislative leader in New Jersey history in the state's elections - but the loser is disputing the results and claims more ballots were 'found' on Thursday. The election was held on Tuesday but Associated Press only called the race today after 100 percent of precincts had reported. Underdog GOP candidate Ed Durr delivered a humiliating defeat to Democratic Senate President Steve Sweeney in South New Jersey's 3rd Legislative District by a...

Governor Ron DeSantis affirmed on Wednesday during a press conference in West Palm Beach plans to improve election integrity in a widespread effort to clamp down on voter fraud. DeSantis called upon legislators to enact four principle steps to safeguard elections: establish an Office of Election Crimes and Security, elevate ballot harvesting to a third-degree felony offense, the requirement of timelines for supervisors of elections to clean the voter rolls of ineligible voters, and the prohibition of unsecured drop box locations.DeSantis’ announcement drew the ire of state Democrats, who were quick to condemn the Governor’s game plan.“More attacks on voting...

A spike in health-care spending during the COVID-19 pandemic could lead to some serious financial challenges for provinces as they work to rebuild their health systems in the aftermath, according to the Canadian Institute for Health Information. The spending surge is expected to reach a record $308 billion in 2021, say newly released projections from CIHI. That is roughly $8,019 per Canadian. “COVID-19 resulted in the single biggest increase in health spending we have ever seen in this country,” said CIHI president David O’Toole in a news release. Health spending is projected to have increased 12.8 percent between 2019 and...

Yay! A COVID-19 vaccine is now available for children! Now, you might be wondering why you need to give an experimental vaccine to your kids when they’ve never really been at risk from COVID-19, and that makes you a horrible person. Because when it comes to COVID-19, you’re just supposed to do whatever you're told and not ask questions. Still, here are ten reasons to get your kids vaccinated. If 100% of kids are vaccinated, maybe you’ll be allowed to not wear a mask. Maybe. Who knows? Could happen. Or not. Whatever. All the cool kids are doing it. Or...

Mr. Sweeney, the second most powerful lawmaker in New Jersey and a Democrat, lost his bid for re-election to Edward Durr, a driver for a furniture chain. For nearly a decade, Stephen M. Sweeney, the second most powerful lawmaker in New Jersey, seemed truly unassailable. He boasted deep ties to the most feared political power broker in the state and unyielding support from the influential building trade unions. Four years ago, the state’s teachers’ union spent more than $5 million to unseat him. He won by 18 points. This year, his challenger was Edward Durr, a truck driver for Raymour...

Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) is mulling a run for statewide office next year and isn’t ruling out the possibility of a 2024 presidential bid. The retiring Illinois congressman told CNN that he is considering launching a campaign for either the Senate or the Illinois governor’s mansion. He said he will “probably” make a decision by January. He also told the network that he “definitely” isn’t ruling out a bid for president in 2024.
