By early March 2021, roughly 65 million people in the U.S. — or one out of every five people — had been infected by the coronavirus that causes COVID-19, a new analysis shows. The findings, described in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, suggest that roughly 60% of coronavirus infections had gone uncounted at that point — adding to a growing body of evidence that the pandemic’s true toll is far greater than official tallies show. “It’s good to see people start estimating how far we potentially could be off,” said Jennifer Nuzzo, an epidemiologist at the Johns...

Special interest donors are covering much of the cost for Texas Democratic lawmakers to stay in pricey Washington, D.C., hotel rooms, but Texas taxpayers are still losing close to $500,000 on expenses for a legislative session that isn’t happening. Texas lawmakers who fled the legislative session in Austin for the nation’s capital ultimately will have to report all of the private money pouring in for the self-professed “fugitive” Democrats. That amount includes at least $600,000 from the political action committee of former U.S. Rep. Beto O’Rourke, who ran for president in 2020. These Democrats have raised money from other sources...

CLEVELAND, OH—Under intense pressure from the Native American community and progressive activists, the Cleveland Indians have finally retired their racist Chief Wahoo logo. They won't be changing their name, though, and instead are replacing the antiquated Indian with another well-known Indian: Apu from The Simpsons. As part of a deal with Fox, Apu will now appear on all Indians merchandise and be prominently featured in all Cleveland Indians advertising. The Indians say they are finally making things right with the Native American community with this move, and they are hoping the new mascot is as inoffensive as possible. "We hope...

So, you still have guns in your house, huh? First of all, shame on you. Read and learn, you bitter clinger! 1) The government is very trustworthy and would never hurt anyone: Also, they have nukes. Resistance is futile. Just hand 'em over! 2) With your gun safe empty, you now have a neat place to hide when...

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said Monday that he's expanding the city's Covid-19 mandate to require the entire municipal workforce to get vaccinated or start weekly testing by September 13. The mandate will cover employees in the school system as well as police and fire departments, the mayor said. The city has about 340,000 employees. "It means people who work in offices and people who work on the front line. Everyone," he said.

In just four months, high-doses of vitamin D reduce arterial stiffness in young, overweight/obese, vitamin-deficient, but otherwise still healthy African-Americans, researchers say. Rigid artery walls are an independent predictor of cardiovascular- related disease and death and vitamin D deficiency appears to be a contributor. In what appears to be the first randomized trial of its kind, they found that arterial stiffness was improved by vitamin D supplementation in a dose-response manner in this population, they write in the journal PLOS ONE. Participants taking 4,000 international units -- more than six times the daily 600 IUs the Institute of Medicine currently...

Former FDA Commissioner Dr. Scott Gottlieb said it’s possible that the US could turn the corner in the COVID-19 pandemic in the next few weeks — and follow the same trajectory as the United Kingdom, which has started to see cases plunge again. Gottlieb said the US appears to be about three or four weeks behind the United Kingdom in the latest wave of cases, which has been driven by the highly contagious Delta variant. “If you look at the UK, they do in the last seven days appear to be turning a corner. You’re starting to see a downward...

Experts are warning that the greatest threat to the pandemic recovery in the United States are the large swaths of Americans who remain unvaccinated. Over the past few weeks, the U.S. has seen a surge of coronavirus cases across the country in the wake of the highly infectious delta variant. The new strain has particularly wreaked havoc in states with low vaccination rates. The state of Missouri has recently become a U.S. hot spot, averaging more than 2,100 cases per day over the last seven-day period, according to data from The New York Times. About 41 percent of the state...

Former President Donald Trump calls Sen. Lisa Murkowski “disloyal.” State party leaders want her to quit identifying herself as a Republican candidate. But Murkowski’s campaign finance reports show outside Alaska, she still has a comfortable spot in the Republican fold. Murkowski’s most recent report shows a pair of $5,000 contributions this spring from Bluegrass PAC. That’s a political action committee affiliated with the Senate’s top Republican, Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. Murkowski has crossed Republicans on a host of issues, and McConnell had another Republican candidate in Alaska he could have supported: Kelly Tshibaka. Tshibaka is pitching herself as the rightful...

Here is what the CDC says: After December 31, 2021, CDC will withdraw the request to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) of the CDC 2019-Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) Real-Time RT-PCR Diagnostic Panel, the assay first introduced in February 2020 for detection of SARS-CoV-2 only. CDC is providing this advance notice for clinical laboratories to have adequate time to select and implement one of the many FDA-authorized alternatives. A source from Gov. Newsom’s $100 million lab explained to the Globe in February about the high number of false positive PCR tests: “Results from a positive...

Big Tech companies including Facebook, Google, Microsoft, Twitter, Reddit, Verizon, Airbnb, and Mailchimp will expand a project of collusion on “counterterrorism” efforts that target domestic right-wing organizations. Pronouns are often attributed to a person at birth, when newborns can be labelled ‘he/him’ or ‘she/her’ depending on their biological sex. Despite a wealth of progress on the matter, many people still have a habit of assuming a person’s gender and pronouns. To highlight these issues, Instagram partnered with Mermaids, one of the UK’s leading LGBTQ+ charities, to conduct a study of 2,000 UK adults and find out how many people are open and accepting to acknowledging a person’s pronouns. Of the 2,000 participants, 61% said they never ask someone their pronouns when meeting for the first time, paving...

California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) on Monday compared law-abiding, unvaccinated Americans to dangerous, murderous drunk drivers. CNN on Monday asked Newsom if it’s time to bring back the universal mask mandate regardless of vaccination status because of rising Covid cases. Newsom immediately blamed unvaccinated people for the rise in Covid cases “We don’t even have to have that debate if we could just get everybody vaccinated…living vaccine free is impacting the rest of us like drunk drivers,” Newsom said. “You don’t have the right to go out and drink and drive and put everybody else at risk including your own...

An article from Politico reads as one long whiny diatribe but it does make clear what troubles the GA democrat party. They're upset that they can't cheat and the authors are entirely sympathetic. The state’s new voter I.D. requirement for mail-in ballots could affect the more than 270,000 Georgians lacking identification. The provision cutting the number of ballot drop boxes could affect hundreds of thousands of voters who cast absentee ballots that way in 2020 — and that’s just in the populous Atlanta suburbs alone. It didn’t take long before the implications became clear to party officials and voting rights...
