LOS ANGELES - In another lifetime, wealthy businessman Ed Buck hobnobbed with elite Democrats such as Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and Gavin Newsom. But, according to prosecutors, away from the glamour of the dinner parties and fundraisers, Buck had a dangerous dark side. It included preying on gay black men in sexual games and injecting them with fatal levels of GHB and methamphetamine. Tuesday's opening statements in Buck’s nine-count indictment recounted experiences of his drug den where two men died, and several others were injured. Although the 66-year-old businessman has said through his lawyers the activity was consensual, the U.S....

I recently submitted a manuscript to an education journal, a review essay of another scholar’s work. It opened with a compliment of the author’s “highly-praised and influential work.” To that statement, one reviewer of my manuscript asserted that I used “emotionally loaded language of incredulity, dismissiveness, and hyperbole.” More “tone policing” comments riddled the review, suggesting that even when my words might sound benign or complimentary, what I really meant was malevolent. There were several examples of another curious critique type as well: Raw declarations that my claims could not possibly be true, without any effort having been made to...

An international collaboration of astronomers has identified a curious occurrence of nine star-like objects that appeared and vanished in a small region within half an hour... Scientists from Sweden, Spain, the US, Ukraine, and India... investigated...photography that used glass plates to capture night sky images of April 12, 1950, exposed at the Palomar Observatory in California. They detected these transient stars, which were not to be found in photographs half an hour later and not traced since then. The astronomers have not found any explanation in well-established astrophysical phenomena like gravitational lensing, fast radio bursts or any variable star that...

The City of Riverside announced on Friday that the event, which was planned for 6 p.m. on Saturday, would not proceed at the Riverside Convention Center after it was "widely condemned" by residents, according to a press release from the city. Mayor Patricia Lock Dawson called the rally "divisive" and welcomed the decision from the Raincross Hospitality Corp., which manages the convention center through a city contract. "These quotes are going to make great exhibits in the lawsuit @RepMTG and I will be filing," Gaetz wrote in response on Saturday, retweeting images shared by a journalist of the city's press...

Prices in Florida’s ultra-rich Palm Beach community hit an all-time high in the second quarter, as brokers grappled with a record-low number of mansions to sell. The average price for a single-family home in Palm Beach hit $11.7 million in the quarter, up 38% from a year earlier and marking a new high, according to Douglas Elliman and Miller Samuel. Brokers say the flow of wealthy hedge funders, private equity chiefs and other executives in finance moving from New York and other finance capitals has created a sharp rise in demand and prices for a market already known for its...

Regarding thoroughly corrupted republics, Machiavelli found that even when a few wise laws are passed, corrupt institutions in society and government will turn the law away from their intended, good purposes. To possibly recover, one of two things must happen. Either prudent men along the way step in to introduce reforms as incremental corruption is detected, or a large single stroke of reform is necessary when the debasement of society and government is evident to all. Since the republic in his discussion is already thoroughly corrupt, it would appear that the first of his possible solutions has been overcome by events.Still,...

Amid sagging Covid-19 vaccination rates and stubborn levels of vaccine hesitancy, Dr. Anthony Fauci told CNN on Saturday the United States’ successful campaigns to eradicate smallpox and polio in the last century wouldn’t have succeeded if those vaccines were subject to the same level of misinformation that currently surrounds coronavirus vaccines. In an interview with CNN, Fauci warned that some unvaccinated adults have been exposed to false information, are often skeptical of objective Covid-19 data and frequently justify their decision not to get vaccinated with “things that are really just not true.” After anchor Jim Acosta compared the situation to...

How hath the LORD covered the daughter of Zion with a cloud in his anger, and cast down from heaven unto the earth the beauty of Israel, and remembered not his footstool in the day of his anger! The LORD hath swallowed up all the habitations of Jacob, and hath not pitied: he hath thrown down in his wrath the strong holds of the daughter of Judah; he hath brought them down to the ground: he hath polluted the kingdom and the princes thereof. He hath cut off in his fierce anger all the horn of Israel: he hath drawn back his...

Good afternoon. I have family member taking a cross-country road trip from IL to WA. Standard SUV which is going to be packed with gear to the max. I am trying to find any state laws regarding just how high one can pack the backend of SUV without getting stopped by these "States' Finest" officers for rear window obstruction. Not much luck on specifics. It may just be common sense, but these days, one can never be too careful... Anyone with further information that lives in or has traveled through these states is appreciated.

A political action committee tied to Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has been selling anti-mask and anti-Fauci merchandise, including shirts that read "don't Fauci my Florida." Dr. Anthony Fauci reacts with CNN's Jim Acosta, saying he has "no idea" what it's about.

Michigan Republicans want to pass a blitz of legislation that restricts the right to vote in the key battleground state — and they have an audacious plan to get their ideas enacted, even though they have to contend with a Democratic governor who could ordinarily veto their bills.State lawmakers proposed 39 different bills targeting elections, including ones that restrict absentee voting, a bill that could prevent the state from certifying elections, and a pair of bills that would give ordinary poll workers a simply extraordinary amount of power to restrict voting.Until recently, Michigan seemed safe from the kind of anti-voting...

FOX 32 reports discusses the staggering amount of police officers retiring in Chicago thanks to the crime, failed Democrat leadership, and even the calls to defund the police. The crime is reportedly “out of control” and further reported is the possibility that “gang members now outnumber the city’s police officers by 10 to 1.” Gang members in Chicago outnumber law enforcement officers about 9 to 1 — as officers are on track to retire in record numbers this year, police said Wednesday. Police Superintendent David Brown estimated last year that there are about 117,000 gang associates, who are part of...

A July 16 release by the group said that Leete’s rant “does not reflect the values of Virginia PTA.” It went on to state that the board members would...
