Norway's health authorities have doubled down on their recommendation for those without symptoms not to wear face masks, arguing that the number of infections in Norway was now so low that they were unnecessary. In a memo, published in English on its website, the Norwegian Institute of Public Health, said that even in the best case, with medical masks which prevent 40 percent of infections, 200,000 people would have to wear them to prevent just one new infection per week. This, it said, meant that the likely negative impacts outweighed any benefits “in the current epidemiological situation”.

President Joe Biden will call for people to go door-to-door to spread the word about COVID vaccines after he fell short of his July 4 vaccination targets of 70% of adults with at least one dose. Half of US has been seeing increases in COVID-19 cases over the last two weeks a new analysis finds. In South Carolina there has been a 147% rise in new cases from 95 per day to 235 per day. Arkansas has seen coronavirus cases surge by 52% from an average of 286 cases per day to 435 per day over the last two weeks....

Myocarditis after mRNA COVID-19 vaccination is a rare adverse event that often resolves quickly, without treatment. ================================================================================ Shirley Graves had a rare adverse event, inflammation of the heart, after receiving her first COVID-19 shot. PHOTO BY TONY CALDWELL /Postmedia =============================================================================== On March 11, Shirley Graves did what she does every day — walked to the barn to do chores. But this was no ordinary morning. By the time she got there, she had a burning pain in her chest and was sweating profusely. The retired nurse was convinced she was having a heart attack. Fearing she was “going down,” Graves...

There has been a significant amount of coverage recently of Joe Biden’s nominee to serve as the head of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). Tracy Stone-Manning was granted legal immunity back in 1993 for her testimony that she retyped and mailed an anonymous letter to the U.S. Forest Service on behalf of a friend, John P. Blount. The letter warned the Forest Service that trees in an area about to be logged had been spiked, meaning heavy metal spikes had been driven into the trees to deter logging. Per the usual highly partisan coverage, the story is cast as...

Jimmy Carter and his wife Rosalynn Carter are devoted fans of the PBS "NewsHour," the former president said in an interview that aired Monday evening. They watch the show every night, Carter told "NewsHour" host Judy Woodruff as he described the couple's news consumption. "We watch MSNBC and CNN pretty regularly," he added. They "don't watch Fox presentations very much," Carter said, nor do they "really become involved" in social media. "So we have a fairly good balance of the news coverage."

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have confirmed hundreds of cases of myocarditis or pericarditis, which is heart inflammation, have been reported in people under 30 after receiving the COVID-19 vaccinations. On Tuesday, Fabio Berlingieri appeared on Fox & Friends to say that his 17-year-old son was diagnosed with heart problems after taking the Pfizer vaccine so he could go to school and play soccer. “A week later, he came home and started telling me that his heart was hurting every time he had a heartbeat,” the distraught father told Fox News host Brian Kilmeade. Berlingieri said he took...

A father named Ian Rice passionately addressed his kids’ school district to slam critical race theory during a public school board meeting. Rice, who is black, said the theory is meant for discussion at the collegiate level and has no place in grade schools and high schools, emphasizing that its affect is to teach that “white people are bad.” “That’s not true,” the father asserted. “That would teach my daughter that her mother is evil.” “This board and this school district has failed,” Rice started his commentary. “[Critical race theory] was never meant to be brought into grade schools, high...

The Dutch Supreme Court on Tuesday upheld far-right politician Geert Wilders’ conviction for collectively insulting Moroccans at a campaign rally in 2014. Wilders had been convicted in 2016, and demanded a retrial, arguing the case had been politically motivated and that the finding restricted his freedom of speech. The court ruled Tuesday that the rally speech was not covered by freedom of expression. […] At the 2014 campaign rally in question, Wilders asked supporters if they wanted “fewer” Moroccans in the Netherlands. “Fewer! Fewer! Fewer!” his supporters chanted back. “We’re going to take care of that,” Wilders told the crowd....

Irritated by foreign criticism of some of his policies, President Xi Jinping vowed that "The Chinese people will absolutely not allow any foreign force to bully, oppress or enslave us and anyone who attempts to do so will face broken heads and bloodshed in front of the iron Great Wall of the 1.4 billion Chinese people." The examples of "bullying" that so incensed Xi include objections to China's treatment of the Uyghurs and its culpability for the coronavirus pandemic that has resulted in nearly four million deaths around the globe. The Uyghurs are an ethnic minority whose members are being...
  • Trading Your Soul — For What?

We’re all given a certain amount of time and ability which we exchange to gain other things, such as money, food, shelter, relationships, leisure, and pleasure. The scary thing is, it’s easy to fritter away your life, exchanging your time and abilities for things that really don’t matter, or even worse, for things that cause you and others great harm. Sometimes the bad bargain you make is so pivotal that it affects the rest of your life, and even has eternal consequences. For example, a man decides to trade family time for business success. He loses his wife and children....

Gene Siller went to check on a report of an unauthorized pickup truck that had driven onto the Pinetree County Club course around 2:30 p.m., police said. Shortly after, officers found him on the green of the 10th hole with a gunshot wound to the head, police spokeswoman Officer Shenise Barner told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Police believe Siller “happened upon a crime in progress” and was “killed because he witnessed an active crime taking...

Shortages of supplies and labor slowed growth in the services sector while pushing prices higher in June, a pair of business surveys revealed Tuesday. Growth in the services sector, which accounts for over 75 percent of the U.S. economy, cooled a bit in June, separate surveys by the Institute for Supply Management and IHS Markit indicate. Despite the slowdown, growth still remains at historically high levels corresponding with the reopening of many parts of the economy and the increased willingness of consumers to “return to normal” now that mass vaccination has sent the pandemic on the retreat. The Institute for...

Kraut was also part of the 2008 Beijing gold-medal squad. The 29-year-old Springsteen was an alternate at...

The more experienced hands in the emergency room diagnosed her almost at a glance. They had seen this novella many times. She was not the first, and she would not be the last.It was more than 25 years ago that we met as I worked in a border-area emergency room, but my memory of her remains crystal-clear even today. Her coal-black eyes were piercing and never rested. They radiated fear and hatred. They engaged anyone who moved near her, digesting and assessing, as she tried to answer the ancient question: “Friend or foe?” Her slow, cat-like movements were like clockwork:...

Revolutions need air and fuel in the same way fires do. They need to feed. They need to gather strength. The Marxist revolution sweeping this nation has plenty of air and fuel. It is fed constantly by super-heated rhetoric about white supremacy, systemic racism, and the inherent evil at the heart of the American dream. At the same time, the revolution is protected and nurtured. Federal and state law enforcement agencies do not hunt down and dismantle the networks spreading the real violence in America’s cities and streets. Instead, they spend their time chasing the bogeymen of “white supremacist groups”...

In June, Joe Biden’s National Security Council released its National Strategy for Countering Domestic Terrorism. The document absurdly but alarmingly claims that, out of all the fanatics who hate America and wish it harm, “the most persistent and lethal threats” are posed by domestic “racially or ethnically motivated violent extremists (principally those who promote the superiority of the white race).” Other commentators have shown that this narrative about white-supremacist “extremists” is little more than crude propaganda—an attempt to hijack our entire national security and federal law enforcement apparatus as a partisan weapon of the Democratic Party. That is certainly a...
