Violence between Jews and Muslims in the Middle East is often accompanied by spikes in anti-Semitic activity in the United States, but what’s happened over the last week or so has been different. As Jonathan Greenblatt, the national director of the Anti-Defamation League, put it to me, Jewish organizations are somewhat inured to, say, pro-Palestinian graffiti on a synagogue following a protest. What’s new, and more reminiscent of the sort of anti-Semitic aggression common in Europe, is flagrant public assaults on Jews — sometimes in broad daylight — motivated by anti-Zionism. In Los Angeles, for example, a caravan waving Palestinian...

BOSTON — Exit renumbering work on a long stretch of Interstate 495 will begin Sunday night, according to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation. The project is part of the state's effort to comply with Federal Highway Administration requirements to have exit numbers based on mile markers. Advertisement Massachusetts previously used a sequential exit numbering method, and if that method continued to be used, the state would lose federal funding. MassDOT's exit renumbering work on I-495 between Middleborough and Amesbury will begin at 8 p.m. Sunday. The sign installations will be broken up into four segments as follows:

Now, as of March 2021 in California, police can detain anyone, anytime, anywhere based on normal, lawful behavior as long as they claim that something, anything, including an everyday, mundane act, seems “suspicious.” The Founding Fathers were very familiar with representatives of the State (in their case, representatives of the King) interrogating and arresting colonists at will. These abuses kept free people in fear of the police, and insecure in their personal lives. The notion of a person being King of their own Castle speaks to how important personal privacy and safety were to America from the start. The Fourth...

West Valley City police released body camera footage from officers that show Clark approached the officers carrying the crowbar. When he was ordered to drop the crowbar, Clark replied, “Nope, let me get these car keys or someone’s getting it.” He then said, “Alright, here I come,” as he raised the crowbar over his head with both hands and ran toward one of the WVCPD officers. One of the officers fired his Taser, but it had “no effect” on Clark, who “sprinted after” one of the officers. The other two officers chased Clark, who “suddenly turned and came at them...

Tennessee is the latest state to ban teachers from teaching certain concepts of race and racism in public schools, where teachers risk losing valuable state funding if they violate the new measure. Republican Gov. Bill Lee signed a measure into law Monday after it attracted some of the most impassioned debates inside the GOP-controlled General Assembly this year. He signaled his support after it cleared the Legislature, arguing that students should learn “the exceptionalism of our nation,” not things that “inherently divide” people. “We need to make sure that our kids recognize that this country is moving toward a more...

WASHINGTON—U.S. spy agencies in recent weeks watched as two planes belonging to China’s People’s Liberation Army landed at an airport in the United Arab Emirates and unloaded crates of undetermined materiel, according to U.S. officials who have seen the intelligence. The transport flights, along with other signs of nascent security cooperation between Beijing and the U.A.E., a major U.S. ally in the Gulf region, have alarmed U.S. officials and cast fresh uncertainty over a multibillion-dollar sale of advanced U.S. weapons to the Emirates, the officials said. The Biden administration said in April following a review that it would move forward...

BEIJING—John Cena made a terrible mistake in a recent promotional appearance for Fast & Furious 9, in which he referred to Taiwan as a country. This insulted the communist tyrants of the Chinese Communist Party, who demanded an apology. "I am so, so very sorry for insulting the glorious People's Republic Of China," said Cena in broken Mandarin. Each time the power goes out, frustrated Californians look for someone to blame. That could spell trouble for Gov. Gavin Newsom, who will appear on a recall ballot during another hot and dry season and as California voters brace for electricity outages around the state. “It could be a major issue,” said Dave Gilliard, one of the Republican strategists leading the effort to recall Newsom. “People will ultimately hold him responsible for the state of California, and if they can’t turn their lights on right around the time they’re voting, they’re going to be thinking about that.” The state’s three...
