CHICAGO—Scientists at Johnson & Johnson on Friday refuted an assertion in a major medical journal that the design of their COVID-19 vaccine, which is similar AstraZeneca’s, may explain why both have been linked to very rare brain blood clots in some vaccine recipients. The United States earlier this week paused distribution of the J&J vaccine to investigate six cases of a rare brain blood clot known as cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST), accompanied by a low blood platelet count, in U.S. women under age 50, out of about 7 million people who got the shot. The blood clots in patients...

WASHINGTON—President Joe Biden on Friday sought to present a united front with Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga to counter an increasingly threatening China as the U.S. leader held his first face-to-face White House summit since taking office. China topped the agenda, underscoring Japan’s central role in U.S. efforts to face down Beijing. The two leaders addressed an array of geopolitical issues, including Taiwan, with Suga saying they reaffirmed “the importance of peace and stability of the Taiwan Strait,” a slap at Beijing’s increased military pressure on the Chinese-claimed, self-ruled island.

A school in Waukegan, Illinois, will not be renamed after former President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama, following protests from members of the Latino community in the city. Thomas Jefferson Middle School will instead be named after John Lewis, an icon of the civil rights movement and Democratic congressman who died in July 2020. Local opposition to the proposal to honor the Obamas centered on the former president's deportation policies and the fact that his administration deported more people than his successor Donald Trump. Waukegan's Board of Education moved to rename two middle schools in the area...

Twitter refused to provide any evidence Project Veritas Founder James O’Keefe, who was permanently suspended from the platform Thursday after his latest exposé on CNN trended for days, operated fake accounts to justify the ban. A Twitter spokesperson officially declined The Federalist’s inquiries into what accounts O’Keefe was allegedly operating Friday. O’Keefe announced Thursday afternoon, shortly after the indefinite suspension, that he would file a lawsuit against the company...

Ontario will extend its stay-at-home order and introduce additional restriction measures, with police granted additional powers to enforce the restrictions, Premier Doug Ford said on April 16. “We’re losing the battle between the variants and vaccines,” Ford said. “The pace of vaccine supply has not kept up with the spread of the new COVID variants.” The province is extending the previous four-week stay-at-home order by two weeks, and limiting interprovincial travel from Manitoba and Quebec only for purposes such as work, health care services, and transportation of good and services. The province is also giving police and bylaw officers additional...

State Department nominee Victoria Nuland coasted through her Senate confirmation hearing on Thursday without facing any questions about her role disseminating information from former British spy Christopher Steele during the 2016 presidential campaign. Nuland, who is nominated for undersecretary of state of political affairs, authorized two meetings during a previous stint at the State Department between government officials and Steele, a former British spy who compiled a dossier alleging collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian government. Ontario will step up enforcement powers for police and extend its stay-at-home order to a minimum of six weeks in a bid to stem the exponential rise in COVID-19 cases, but won't institute paid sick days — despite modelling showing that cases will remain high through the summer without additional support for essential workers. Speaking at a twice-delayed news conference on Friday, Premier Doug Ford announced the stay-at-home order first instituted on April 8 for four weeks will now be extended until May 20.

Following on the legislative heels of Idaho, Mississippi, and Arkansas, the Alabama Senate voted overwhelmingly to prohibit transgender "females," who are biological males, from competing in women's sports programs at K-12 schools. The Senate voted on Thursday 25-5 to pass the bill; the legislation passed in the House in March 74-19. It now goes to Republican Gov. Kay Ivey, who apparently has not indicated whether she will sign it or not. "I believe that this bill is important, ladies and gentlemen of the Senate, to protect the integrity of women's athletics," said State Sen. Garlan Gudger (R-Cullman) on Thursday. "I...

For a “trained Marxist,” Black Lives Matter co-founder Patrisse Cullors has very expensive taste in homes, which is pretty characteristic for “Marxists.” However, the backlash coming at her for her purchases is mounting, and now one of her old rivals, a New York activist, is demanding she be audited.According to the Daily Caller, Hank Newsome is the leader of an organization called “Black Lives Matter Greater New York, which is unaffiliated with the Black Lives Matter national movement. Cullors has sent Newsome cease-and-desist letters telling him to stop using the BLM name for his organization, but even Black Lives Matter...

A clinical scientist and immunologist-virologist at a southern California laboratory says he and colleagues from 7 universities are suing the CDC for massive fraud. The reason: not one of 1500 samples of people tested “positive” could find Covid-19. ALL people were simply found to have Influenza A, and to a lesser extent Influenza B. This is consistent with the previous findings of other scientists, which we have reported on several times. Dr. Derek Knauss: “When my lab team and I subjected the 1500 supposedly positive Covid-19 samples to Koch’s postulates and put them under an SEM (electron microscope), we found...

Explanation: Light rays from accretion disks around a pair of orbiting supermassive black holes make their way through the warped space-time produced by extreme gravity in this stunning computer visualization. The simulated accretion disks have been given different false color schemes, red for the disk surrounding a 200-million-solar-mass black hole, and blue for the disk surrounding a 100-million-solar-mass black hole. That makes it easier to track the light sources, but the choice also reflects reality. Hotter gas gives off light closer to the blue end of the spectrum and material orbiting smaller black holes experiences stronger gravitational effects that produce...
